Part of a pro argument I hear from our sac guy is that it opens thems to 2-1 home series with FBS schools. I haven’t scanned the MAC schedules that closely so maybe Central Michigan (one of their attendance leaders) is hosting a Big10 or ACC team…

Enough on this subject from me. Predicting the FBS landscape in two-three years is beyond me.

I mentioned above, the trainer was trying to wrap an ace bandage around his hip and groin in one side over a very impressive pair of compression shorts. So, it seems like something there that’s really effecting his quickness. Feel for him

I can imagine a world where we go 3-2 down the stretch to finish 12-8 but not sure that’s good enough for top 4 unless we tie with UCSB (own the tiebreaker). 4-1 could do it, but that’s a big ask.

After that, I don’t know where we’d want to be. We don’t seem to match up with UCSD for some reason so let’s avoid that in the first round. Any favorable matchup? Not really.

If ‘spending whatever it takes’ makes sense to you, it’s hard to persuade you to the opposite. I don’t think I’m im the minority of non-Sac fans in thi king this is crazy. But, king of the Sac region has a nice ring to it!

how can I not see? Nobody from over there in the past 16 months pushed the MAC, and nobody ever suggested paying over $20M for the pleasure.

Imagine I’m an investor in November 2024 and you are trying to raise millions for SAC12. Sell me on spending $20M to play the likes of directional-Michigan, Akron or UMASS….and agreeing to NOT taking TV money initially. Sell me that ‘vision of the future’. The hope, I guess, is that things go crazy in 5 years, moratorium on FBS entry, and a desparare PAC12 rolls out the red carpet? At what additional cost?

BTW, as current members of the MWC, we won’t have to pay a crazy entry fee just the (current) $5M FBS fee. Seems like that may have been a wise fiscal decision

I was surprised that the Titans were as good as they were in Davis since they’ve been down the past few seasons.

I’ve been meaning to look at our record on Thursday night road games vs Saturday (limited sample size). I assume, we bus to Sac, fly down, kill time somewhere and then play - I can’t imagine we fly and stay Wednesday. Of course, SOCal teams have that same issue coming up here on Thursday (they must stay Friday before a Saturday afternoon gsme).

it’s only one Tuesday a season; it’s the trips to Akron or UMASS in front of a rowdy 6000 that would be a concern.

I can’t imagine when all the SAC12 talk started that anyone envisioned this as the consolation prize. Especially, as is rumored, they aren’t taking TV revenue initially.

I think it’s dealing with something physically that’s really limiting him and taking a toll mentally.

I think I’m rooting for Irvine to keep Fullerton behind us.

I told people CSUN is for real - hitting their peak now.

First half was as complete a half as we’ve played in quite some time. Good ball movement, active and physical on D, snd controlled the boards. Coming out in the second half with a 6-0 burst to get to a 20 point lead sealed it.

Daugherty was out with a concussion leading to Cooper back in lineup. We was much better tonight but I don’t think he’s 100%. When I was coming back from lounge, the trainer was wrapping an ace bandage across his hip/groan area - perhaps that’s effecting his explosiveness.

Got deep into the bench. Omer was good although he can get sloppy with the ball. Franklin did some good things on D, but too many turnovers. We need to get the top 8-9 some rest with the tough stretch coming but can only do that if these guys can protect the ball.

We had some great looks in second half and couldn’t get a break - else that was a 30 point win.

Poly beating SB. I think that’s bad for us cuz I fear Poly getting on a roll more than I think we can overcome the Gauchos

Not to derail this into a basketball discussion but here’s big west attendance for this season. We’re down about 300/game from last year (we got a big ESPN bump). Hawaii is the outlier. What are SB, SD and Irvine doing to get 600-1000 more per game? Irvine has been a perennial power, but lots of LA completion. How is Poly, who’s been terrible in recent past and decent now, outdrawing us? Be good to have someone research their approach and see what applies to us.

Oddsmakers have us at around 4.5 point favorites with 70% chance of winning a close one (4 points or so). We really need to hit the ground running. Love to see us feed Niko early on pick and roll type players to get their defense off the perimeter. There’s been times recently we look like we’re playing against a zone - pass around the outside, an occasional difficult drive by our smallest players!

I think the basketball would be happy with numbers like like. Seems like a good third of our crowd is students (free), and no creative accounting gets us above 2000 except vs Sac. They are packing the place and their home record reflects.

to be fair, they’ve been drawing about 3000 a game to that arena; we are far below that

it could be the MAC is desperate:

These are Cooper’s and Chappell’s recent stats. Chappell was good vs SB but the two have combined for almost nothing in this 4 game stretch. The rotation seemed more smooth prior to the change with Carl off the bench.

I hate the idea of losing talented upperclassman. Speaking of….Pablo Tomba has started all 24 games for LSU averaging 7/7.

Poly over Irvine was a shocker. A win over LB on Saturday should just about guarantee a playoff berth (I’m not hopeful of a 4 seed!)
  • MBB UC Davis (14-9, 7-5) at UC San Diego (16-8, 6-6), Thursday Feb. 12, 7 pm, on ESPN+
Since the switch to the new lineup, Cooper and Chappell have been non-factors. We cdd sad my afford that since Stokes in limited offensively, as is Fagbemi. I’d like to see Daugherty back to the bench for instant offense and Cooper bsck in. We won 3 straight with that lineup but it was a struggle offensively throughout.

    De gift is 7-10, 4-6 from 3. That’s a killer
