deadline to withdraw his name is May 31. I don’t think his chances of being drafted are very good, but he might get a camp invite. I would expect to see him chasing a career overseas
D1 baseball is limited to 11.7 scholarships to be divided among 27 players (on a 35 player roster). so, the vast majority (all?) players are on partials. at UOP, that has to be a high burden unless they are really good at getting aid elsewhere.
i remember we played St Marys in the 15-16 season and got beat bad. I heard Randy Bennett talking later that year about being on the bubble and how OOC games were so critical to them -> he mentioned that game in particular because we were Big West Champs the previous year, but ended 15-16 season something like 11-19. those wins did nothing for their hopes of sneaking in as an at large (they were denied with a 27-5 record)
Having football makes our budget higher than anyone else (poly being the only other football school). I think we have too many sports, but football and title IX drive that.
there was some site (https://247sports.com/college/uc-davis/Season/2023-Basketball/Offers/) i saw a month or so ago that showed young Beasley as someone we had made an offer to. also shows an offer to a Jurian Dixon from San Diego area (offers from Pepperdine and Irvine). this portal stuff really changes the landscape of recruiting.
Saw this in the paper this morning. Dougherty Valley has been a east bay powerhouse the last two years behind Sevilla and Ryan Beasley (Robby’s brother)
I believe they use their limited academic exceptions in basketball. If we get a couple exceptions they go to football. Not so at UCSB. Makes the transfer process a bit easier.
