• Week 9: UC Davis @ Montana
I completely agree with you, I doubt the coaches thought Stanford = Montana, but i think they are even overwhelmed by the level of noise. Talking to locals after the game, and from reading some post-game comments by their comment, that noise level was exceptional even by their standards.

In the second half, we made some adjustments to our snap's that seemed to make a big difference. left guard looked back at QB and pointed his hand forward when Maier was ready. Snap followed soon after. That got everyone more in sync. In first half, there seemed to be long pauses between when QB was ready and when the ball was snapped. Add in some late DL shifts (and some timely signals called by their DL/LB's.....one that FINALLY resulted in a defensive delay of game in the 2nd half) and that caused many of the jumps. That adjustment gave us a chance to get the run game going and get the rhythm back in the pass game.

When we got ready for the first snap of the game, it was DEAFENING on the field. I didn't go to the Oregon game (Autzen gets loud), but this was BY FAR the loudest i've ever heard a stadium. and it got LOUDER when he had a false start on the first play! 'Toto, we ain't in Davis anymore!'

I haven’t heard yet about where they are staying ( should be Spokane). I’ll reach out again this week, there will probably be a get together Friday and/or Saturday. There were about 30 of us in Missoula, not counting families.

we had a backup drop a pick 6 in the last few minutes, else it would have been 56!
  • Week 9: UC Davis @ Montana
I believe that. 4 TD’s in 20 minutes of real time (considering time outs after kickoffs) doesn’t take much time off the game clock!
  • Week 9: UC Davis @ Montana
Was checking my texts from yesterday. At 2:44 I texted ‘21-3 half, not looking good’

    3:57 ‘28-21’
    4:04 ‘35-21’
    4:10 ‘42-21’
    4:17 ‘49-21’

So in the span of 20 minutes we went from tied to rout. In person it was uncanny to watch. That place got quiet. It seemed like it was even quicker than 20 minutes

Anyone attend? Curious to hear how it went.
  • Gage Gubrud Out For Season
For some reason I was thinking he was a junior. Sorry to see him miss his senior year. Heck of a QB!
  • Week 10: Northern Arizona @ UC Davis
With the new redshirt rule I would guess Cookus would take a medical redshirt do they can regroup for next year. Our run defense is much improved so that will be an advantage.

plenty of offers of beer and food. We hung out at a Montana tailgate that a Ag from the late 80’s was part of. Didn’t see much of the town except for dinner on Friday. I was surprised it didn’t feel like a college town. I believe it’s the ‘big city’ of Montana.

We were told the fifth largest city is the stadium on game day at ~25000!

The game experience at Montana was like nothing I’ve ever been to. Tailgate atmosphere was cool, very spread out on streets and fields near the stadium. Folks were friendly and knowledgeable. Stadium is cool; stands are RIGHT on the field (maybe 10 yards on sidelines), three sides of seats are high rise that helps build the noise.

Noise? When we took the field on offense it was a ROAR. And it somehow got louder after the first false start.

First half was bleak. Kids were losing their composure a bit with noise, penalties and Griz intensity (some questionable stuff). Coaches were calm (except Hawks penalty, his first in 35 years!). Once we got to 21-13, the feeling on the sideline (and stands behind us) really shifted. Double pass that set up that TD was reminiscent of hook-and-lateral v USD that turned things around. After 21-21 it felt inevitable. I told a buddy that it felt like if we got a lead we’d pull away. And did we ever. Impressive thing was how the players were reacting to the turnover/TD/turnover/TD/turnover/TD onslaught. No excessive celebration, more if a let’s get back at it (as an aside, QB was hurting after that sack/fumble. Might have led to two INT’s)

Special teams were outstanding! Punts were good , kickoffs outstanding and NO mistakes. That was a great sign.

7-1? On top of the BigSky? Great time to be an Aggie. On flight home I was telling my buddy who is there every game like me (he’s at all away games too) ‘we’ve seen a lot of tough games the past 10 years, this one made up for most of them!’

home town pick. I’m guess the folks actually read their local paper and wouldn’t want to read him picking us
