Hastings wasn’t overly sharp, but we dropped a couple passes that would have been nice gains. I liked the pass game plan better than the recent games with Hunter. More quick hitters to WRs that gave them a chance to run. The INT could have been a big play but it floated a bit - hard pass rolling left. That could have led to a late half score; follow that up with a nice opening second half drive and…..

But not to be. I thought Hastings looked poised. A little more mobile than i expected

Really positive note from last night - ran into Bib Biggs last night looking healthy and as cheery as usual!
  • Week 6: UC Davis @ Idaho State
What I heard was HR was cleared to play but they wanted to be overly cautious and give him another week. I respect that kind of judgment when you’re talking about a head injury.
  • Week 5: Idaho @ UC Davis
We made enough little mistakes to stop any momentum. Unsportsmanlike after TD, drive starts at 40 instead of 25. Offensive PI to go to 1st and 25 after a promising drive start. Procedure after on a 2nd and 2 on a promising drive leading to punt. Dropped pass on wide open crossing pattern. Seemed like that was story of 3rd quarter (unsportsmanlike was early)

They had a good game plan and a couple weeks to focus on us. There were times they stacked 10 guys in the box when we had TT and Larison. They swarmed on UG on the little swings. Running QB, passing QB, etc.

On that replay on the sideline pass, was that a catch? I’m stadium it sure looked like he landed on elbows out of bounds. Could have been a big play. We’ll, unless you go for a FG down 7 with 4:00 to go

i was listening to radio on drive to hotel and Doug Kelly was incredulous on their FG attempt with 4 to go. They were rolling offensively and STILL would need a TD to win. Lucky there.

I don’t like our defensive approach. We play free safety 25 yards deep, with man to man almost every play. FS never is involved in the play since nobody throws deep middle (can’t help on deep sideline). We give up so many short passes underneath and on the edges. They had 3-4 short crosses that turned into 20-25 yard plays. I don’t see any other team with that approach.

Crowd was a bit smaller than week one but pretty full. Once the students settled that side was nearly full, and west side was full. Berms were solid. Might be biggest crowd I’ve seen at the END of a game especially the students. They were loud.

We gotta get a new PA guy. Monotone, and barely audible. Show some excitement for a first down or a stop!!

I heard Petrino is only dressing 4 linemen for tonight’s game.

The other guys are on their own.

That NAU score is a bit stunning. I thought ISU looked solid last spring. Looks like USD kind of lucked out vs the transitioning St Thomas. Scored on a fumble recovery to tie after being behind 24-17.

In spring we ran the ball well (200 yards) especially for the first game, and Hunter was lights out. I think their COVID issues were primarily in the OL, so I’m hoping we can replicate that (although Hawk says their DL is amongst the better ones we’ll face). Like always, don’t give up any big plays and minimize mistakes (especially turnovers) on offense

that's sad to hear. haven't been in there in awhile, but thought the food was pretty decent. its going to be interesting how the restuarants will cope will all the students coming back, after working with skeleton crews for such a long time. we tried desperately to find early Sunday breakfast after the Dixie game, and the waits were 45 minutes with only about half the table taken (Bernardo's, Black Bear, Crepeville). This Sunday I think we'll order via Door Dash, pick up and bring it back to the room (or eat at Central Park).

I don’t think I would conclude no concussion. His head hit the turf pretty hard. Seemed woozy on the sideline and his father was sitting behind him the rest of the game
  • Week 4: UC Davis @ Weber State
I don’t think there is a requirement to sit any specific time. Have to clear medical
  • Week 4: UC Davis @ Weber State
Pass was definitely high. Uncatchable? That wasn’t obvious. I think it was an intended pass since receiver did have some space. It’s hard to judge since the guy pulled him down so hard to gauge where the trajectory was relative to where the intended target’s hand could be.

One we may have got a break on was offensive PI on swing to Davis that wiped out first down and out them back at the 10. That set up the last drive, correct? I believe the rule is blocking is okay is pass is behind the line? If that’s the rule, it looked awfully close. We might not have got a chance to win otherwise

that was a puzzling play call. Their QB wasn’t accurate with long balls, so seemed way risky. Same head puzzling with the 2 passes prior to us stuffing them on 4th and 1 at the 20.

What puzzled me on offense is that HR never seemed to have a easy play with to a open receiver. Several, what looked like, longer one-man patterns with tight coverage. After the injury (his head hit hard), we called several shorter passes (pass and run to Gilliam on 3rd and long was a beaut) and e got in a rhythm. Weber guy had short passes in the holes of the zone all night. Maybe it’s our heavy use of two tight-ends?

if you look at the start of the play at the far sideline, you’ll see me in the golf pullover. Great finish. Weber folk were none too happy with the refs, but that last PI was so obvious

Warm here; low 80’s but feels hotter
  • Week 4: UC Davis @ Weber State
I think what concerned me with Dixie was their 3rd down conversions (9-17), many on 3rd and long. That was too reminiscent of 2019. Got to get those stops today!
  • Week 4: UC Davis @ Weber State
Weather says 81 degrees at kickoff. I’ll pack a windbreaker for the second half, but looks very comfortable

good points, as usual! The March defensive effort was one of the best o can remember vs a top BSC team. Let’s see that, along with the current version of the offense!
