thanks; I couldn’t watch most of the game until the end. Koehler hit some key FTs down the stretch. I think Les liked him in at the end got that and that he’s a smart defender. I wish his footwork was a bit better down low cuz he often gets the ball with a clear path when defenders are pressuring us late in the game

you mentioned the blocked shots - was Koehler a victim of many of those? He was 1-11 from the floor (rest of the team was shooting about 46%).

Our defense will keep us in games even when our shooting is just okay. The defense in the last couple minutes was impressive. Poly had to take a lot of clock to finally get a contested shot. Koehler and I think Squire had a double team tie up in the last minute that essentially ended the game.

thanks for the correction. looks like he lost a 'r' about midway down the thread!
  • MBB: UC Davis at Cal Poly, Friday, Feb. 26 at 2:00
looks like Les is taking advantage of the ‘free year’ to give some young guys time without risking losing eligibility. Last weekend, we saw Ran Pehka get quality first half minutes, today we got Bora. Bora seemed like he met the challenge well
  • Start of season to be delayed
Heard the poly has postponed their second game. Also EWU coach tested positive, apparently only one on the team

Caught the last 5 minutes on BWTV. Got a little dicey when it got to 6. I don’t like USF
Going ‘4-out’ with 2 minutes to go trying to milk the clock, but poly couldn’t take advantage of the lack of offense. Defense was outstanding down the stretch as was FT shooting. Sweep tomorrow

My live stat is stuck at 10:00 us up 12. I had a zoom meeting trying to follow on my phone. Updates?
  • MBB: UC Davis at Cal Poly, Friday, Feb. 26 at 2:00
starting off cold, 30% from the floor (v their 50), but only down 16-15 with 7:30 to go in the half. little rusty after the layoff?
  • Coach Hawkins toughest test to date?
I have to think the good numbers have more to do with the healthy Davis program focusing on keeping the population of the largest city healthy, than sitting the basketball teams. I’m very cautious about COVID, but I think the Yolo folk ignored the level we tested athletes. Makes no sense that gathering 75 tested athletes is more dangerous than 25 tested athletes.

Okay....back to football. My apologies for the detour. Man I wish we were playing Saturday. Could have been a 5-0 weekend v poly with the bball teams seeeping!
  • Coach Hawkins toughest test to date?
Believe it was Yolo since other cal colleges were full practices back in fall. Why 25? Who knows. As for science, we’ll figure out the right standards years down the road.
  • Coach Hawkins toughest test to date?
I think the only COVID specific thing we’ve had to solely deal with is the practices with reduced numbers. Up to this weekend, we were restricted to groups of 25. Now we’re at 75. I don’t think anyone else has had to deal with that, even Poly.
  • Missing Players
I’d bet Koehler is back since next year will be his 5th- same as if he had redshirted along the way. He’s got a great motor. Sometimes that gets him in trouble with his footwork ( he’s always going 100 mph). He’s a tough guy who works hard under the boards.

Last season when I’m come up solo for a week night game, I’d sit with football guru Sam Young. After a big play, Sam would yell out ‘that’s my man!’ Blue collar guy!
  • Start of season to be delayed
I get nervous reading the paragraph wondering if the two other teams scheduled to visit will be allowed to. I suspect their BB teams are traveling so is that a California quarantine concern?
  • Missing Players
thanks for this; I was thinking Squire had the head injury for some reason.
  • Missing Players
Good questions. I think this year doesn’t count for eligibility so no need to redshirt. I was assuming Adabayo was hurt since he was getting quality minutes early. I haven’t heard the extent of Squire’s injury. Was his eye involved?
  • MBB: Long Beach State vs. UC Davis, Saturday, 1 pm
Santa Barbara is on a real roll. Our OT loss (should have won) was one of the only close games in their current 9 game streak. I watched a bit of Irvine-Bake and they looked good, but not great. Not as strong as recent Irvine teams. Riverside has some nice wins. The back to back format is bringing parity to the standings - hard to pull off the sweep.

I don’t know that seeding means much this season, although I’d like to skip UCSB in the first round. Looking for a winning conference record.
  • WBB: Aggies 5-1 (4-0) at Long Beach 11-1 (10-0) ESPN3 4:00 2/12 and 2/13
i tend to agree it’s easier with no hostile crowds, but pressure is pressure. Look at today’s men’s game. Pepper is on fire but misses the front end of a one-and-one that would have iced it. Maybe it’s easier to overthink with no fans.
  • The next Aggie QB?
I saw him last February at the team banquet and he was not built like the other QBs!
  • MBB: Long Beach State vs. UC Davis, Saturday, 1 pm
Ba is playing well, maybe the most improved. Murphy had to play bigger minutes than normal and they went after him.

Someone pointed out the fouls were likely due to tired legs - good observation. Playing a competitive game and coming back less than 24 hours is a challenge. Hats off to both squads. One thing I noticed is the Saturday games get a little chippy. Thankfully, refs and coaches have been very good to get things settled.
