We expect to be better than San Jose. Why would we take a WR from them who is not even their top receiver? We need taller receivers and defensive backs as well. I had hoped our recruiting expectations were higher and that the holdback on news meant we were really looking for some FBS transfers who could add immediate impact.

Do you think they are holding back on scholarship offers until the possible athletic fee referendum is settled? Or do you think they want time to really scour the portal more than they ever have?
  • 2021 FCS Football Playoffs
That should be good for recruiting
  • Keelan Doss: Falcon watch
Doss released from Jets practice squad 12/7.
  • Jordan Perryman to transfer
I was talking more about our guys leaving and not us picking up transfers. So if Perryman and Gilliam don’t get the FBS offers they are looking for would Hawk welcome them back to the team?
  • Jordan Perryman to transfer
I have heard that Jim Les feels the portal is a one way ticket. If they don’t get the offers they want they can’t come back. Does Hawk feel the same way?

What about Grant Harper. Good size, over 2,000 yards in junior and senior season. CIF titles. I kind of remember his signing with some fanfare. Did anyone ever hear how he did in camp?

There are not a lot of offers listed on page 1 of this thread. I remember reading from some other threads that some schools provided more scholarships this year as a result of some waiver due to covid, but that they might have to eliminate some of those next year. Would that mean some school would either have no recruiting class or they would have to pull scholarships from some kids causing a flood on the transfer portal?

I hope we land him. He has good size for a linebacker.
  • MBB: Academy of Art (3-3) at UCD (2-2) at 2 PM Sunday 11.28
This was a terrible loss. Reliance for years has been on small guards and forwards and shooting long 2 point and 3 point shots. Not utilizing the big men for shots in the paint and not enough penetrating for higher percentage shots. That is why we cannot hang onto any good big men. They transfer as they are not utilized enough or they don't come in the first place. As long as we rely on the long shot we will be a streaky program with inconsistent results.
  • Round 1: UC Davis @ South Dakota State
Looks like we have a pretty young team. The roster shows only a few starters are seniors. We should be in good shape next year. We need some bigger guys on both offensive and defensive line. We should be contenders again next year. The Big Sky as a whole has done well, which helps with recruiting. The new Edwards Center should help also. We had a good year even though our hopes were for more.
  • Week 12: Sac State @ UC Davis Causeway Classic 2021
We have some great talent, just couldn’t pull it together. Not sure if our plays are bad, the receivers run bad routes or the QB just isn’t finding
them at the right time, but we just can’t seem to complete passes. I don’t see our strength of wins getting us into the playoffs. Hawkins stayed with his son as QB in college until it ultimately cost him his job so he may stick by Cody here rather than look for a new offensive coordinator which is what we really need on top of a better QB.

Very frustrating game to watch. Hoping for another good recruiting season.

Why would anyone choose 2-8 UNLV, who also lost to EWU this year, over us. Yes they are FBS, but do you want to win or not. We should be able to sell the vision we have for a national championship and we are recruiting kids who can get us there. They’re not going to win a national championship at UNLV.
  • Week 11: Eastern Washington @ Davis
Very tough loss. We had some good points and bad. I wish we would have blitzed more. Maybe they were afraid EWU’s QB would tear us up on a blitz but he did that when having all day to throw. Couldn’t have hurt to try.

Well we need to rebound and beat Sac and have some momentum going into the playoffs and hope to get a better seeding/placement.
  • MBB: Eastern Washington (0-1) at UCD (1-0) 2 pm Friday 11/12
Nice win. Wish they would have repeated the first half and blown them out by 30 points. Like the depth, hard to tell who is 1st vs 2nd string. Had one set where we had Anigwe and McGill in at the same time and another set where they had DeBruhl and Manjon in at the same time. Like the fact they we can show other teams different looks. I feel like we are rebounding better than prior years so far where we got out rebounded often. Looking very good so far.
  • MBB: Aggies at Utah State 6:30 pm Tuesday 11/09
Despite the win, I still wish they would penetrate more and try to get more shots in the paint. They rely so heavily on 3 pointers, we have always been inconsistent in our play as we win or lose on whether the players are hot or cold on a given night. If we got more shots in close on cuts to the basket or a big guy muscling his way in there, that could balance out the 3 pointers.
  • MBB: Aggies at Utah State 6:30 pm Tuesday 11/09
This team looks more athletic than prior years and deeper in talent. Les seemed to rotate players a lot. I wasn’t sure if that was a strategy to keep fresh legs and tire out Utah St and we could do it because of the depth or if he is still trying to find the starters and best groups. In any event, a surprising win. My hopes for this year just went up.
  • Week 10: UC Davis @ Northern Arizona
This was a good win. Play calling seemed better again this game. Hastings seemed more comfortable, threw a few long balls. He should have connected on a wide open Harrell on that first play. Defense played well. Would hope for more pass rush against EWU as a better QB can do more with the extra time.

Even though we haven’t had the toughest schedule there is something to consistently winning even against mediocre teams. We have found ways to win. This is a good team. Looking forward to the next two weeks.
  • Keelan Doss: Falcon watch
Falcons cut Doss. Hard to believe he is not getting a good shot. Hope he gets picked up somewhere else.
  • Week 8: UC Davis @ Cal Poly
i thought the play calling on offense was better this game. Lots of mistakes we could do without. Liked Hastings accuracy. Receivers seemed to be getting open for the first time in a few weeks. Hastings had one long ball that was far too short. Hope that is mistiming and not lack of arm strength. Sounds like Cody regretted the game where he played all three QB’s. So he kept Rodrigues in there all last game even though struggling. Same goes for Hastings. They must have decided to give him a full game to see if he can develop a rhythm vs just getting thrown into the middle of a game and then getting yanked immediately if something bad happens. Maybe the short passes were designed by Cody to let Hastings get acclimated and then try more in a second game.
