  • Week 5: #9 Eastern Washington @ #11 UC Davis
Lots of positives from this short season. We have plenty of depth so they will push each other to get better. Need a little more speed in the secondary. I am looking forward to fall ball.

Our offense has gone from Shredville to Flysweepville!

Larison should handle our punt returns
  • Week 4: Idaho state at UC Davis
Our offensive play calling is bad. Wasting our best skills. Also, might need to give Tompkins or Hastings a try? Rodrigues is slow to make decisions. A lot of his scrambling could be avoided, including his touchdown run, if he made quicker pass decisions.
  • Week 2: #23 UC Davis @ #2 Weber State
We have the talent to win the rest of our games. Our defense is improved over prior years. We just need to figure out our offensive scheme. We have always had a pro style offense I would hate to see us doing a bunch of wildcat run plays.
  • Week 2: #23 UC Davis @ #2 Weber State
Seems like they had a nice plan prepared for the first few drives in the first half and decided they would adjust at half time which turned into a bunch of sweep plays to the short side of the field. Rodrigues is good but he throws a little too late often leading to blocked passes. He was getting a lot of hurries, so we needed more shorter routes and not just on 3rd and 6. Our receivers are one of our best assets. We need to use them more and that frees things up for Gilliam and Larison who is nice surprise. This was overall a good game and our team has a ton of potential. If we can figure a few things out, we can make a nice run in the playoffs.
  • MBB: William Jessup at UC Davis, Friday, Dec. 4, 4:00 PST
Mikey is getting a lot of playing time and is one of their main players. Noticed Gio Nelson is at Portland State after a year at Arizona Western JC, but doesn’t seem to be a starter. Coach Les likes to play small and doesn’t use his big guys much. They don’t figure into the offense as he prefers 3 pointers and the big guys usually don’t get a lot of rebounds either as they must be out of position. Seems like a lot of our big guys leave and it might be hard to recruit good big guys with our offense. Mikey was never going to be a big scorer, so not a big loss. He did hustle and work really hard though.
  • Poll: How many wins for UC Davis this Spring?
I went with over. New QB but lots of good contenders recruited to fight for the spot. Also, seems like recruiting the last couple years has been real strong and some of these kids should be ready to contribute this year.
  • Keelan Doss: Raider Watch
Looks like Doss was cut by the team on 9/6 and then signed to the practice squad on 9/9. Hope a spot opens up for him.

Keelan Doss: Locks down practice squad spot
    by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire
Doss signed with the Raiders' practice squad Sunday, Adam Caplan of SiriusXM NFL Radio reports.

Doss played eight games with the Raiders last season and recorded 11 catches for 133 yards. The team brought in reinforcements at wide receiver this offseason, and Doss failed to beat out Rico Gafford for the No. 6 WR role in Las Vegas. Doss will continue to develop on the practice squad while waiting for a potential spot to open up on the active roster.

    Keelan Doss: Waived by Raiders
    by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire
The Raiders waived Doss on Saturday.

Despite averaging 23.3 snaps per game over eight contests with the Raiders last year, Doss was cut by the team to start the 2020 season. Since he has experience with the Raiders, he could stick around as a practice squad member.

Seems like the Raiders would use these tenders for players they want to protect and keep. Sounds like a good sign that they have plans to develop Keelan.

NDSU's defensive tackles are generally taller and not as heavy.

We need some pass rushers with speed. Will these guys that are 6 feet, 300+ pounds be able to chase down and sack the QB? I hope our strength and conditioning guys and nutritional people can whip the new recruits into shape.

I never understood what happened to Harrell. He seemed like our number two receiver after Doss a couple years ago. Then last year he had hardly any catches.

Suirong Cao was 3 sport guy, football, track & wrestling, 4.0 GPA. See link to Hudl. Video highlights show him being aggressive and knocking guys down on their back as offensive lineman, although many were pretty small. Played both offensive and defensive lineman in high school, but looks like he would be mainly an offensive lineman. Seems like a good kid.

No turnover, but it looked like a bad decision under pressure.
  • 2020 Hula Bowl 7:30 pm PST Tonight January 26th
He got in one session and did OK. He completed a couple nice passes but tried a bad lateral while under pressure. They had four QB’s so tough to get much playing time. Maybe the best exposure to scouts is through practice.

Looks like Mermea went to high school with Jaylin White, one of our DB’s. So maybe Jaylin talked up UCD and then Mermea convinced his teammate. Maybe using the arguments mentioned by movielover!!
  • Aggies have a new Defensive Coordinator???
I meant Dartmouth and I’m sure they have the resources to pay more than we can. But we have the CA weather going for us along with any emotional alma mater feelings he might have after being dismissed upon Hawk’s arrival. I agree he might be looking for a HC job next, but we play in the playoffs while Ivy League teams don’t. So he could get more visibility to other programs with us. I thought Plough was great last year but several games this year play calling seemed poor. So often running the ball on 3rd and long.
