• Week 4: Weber State @ UC Davis
I just don’t see us winning a lot of games with Hastings. Lots of completions today but too many bad passes in huge situations. Easy TD pass to wide open Gilliam and a couple other deep balls were short. Very frustrating loss just like SD State game. I think it’s great that we are much more competitive with the top teams than before but frustrating because we could have easily won them.
  • Week 2: UC Davis (0-1) @ South Dakota State (0-1)
We're not going to win with Hastings. He is not comfortable in the pocket, he's inconsistent and he makes poor decisions. Time to give someone else a try at San Diego so they have some practice prior to league play. I expect San Diego will be an easy win so not a real test for Hastings who could look good in that game, but better to use it to give someone else some experience.

Very disappointing loss. Our defense kept us in that game.
  • Week 1: UC Davis (0-0) @ Cal (0-0)
South Dakota played Iowa tough. Their defense is strong but offense is suspect. Will be tough for Hastings to get the ball off. He needs to make quicker decisions. He also threw a lot of late passes.
  • Week 1: UC Davis (0-0) @ Cal (0-0)
    Positives from this game:
-O and D line did well. Improvement over prior years where we were undersized
-we moved the ball on offense. Total yardage good
    -No jet sweep
-lots of heart and good depth

Hastings makes good plays, hope he can stop the horrible forced passes and learn when to fire it in there vs loft it.

Would like to see Larison more involved

Would have helped if Perryman stuck around for his last year. We missed him

Should have kicked that field goal early and went up 10-0 on a Pac-12 team. Why was that not good enough for Hawkins?

We had one or two almost interceptions for touchdowns. We get those and avoid our own interceptions and this could have been a close game.

I am most impressed by our line which gives me hope for this season. Go Ags. I am fired up for the next game.
  • Doss to NY Giants
I wonder what the problem is. His routes aren't good enough and he is not getting open? He's not fast enough? I know he dropped some balls in games, so is his reliability there a question? Did he just never get enough attention in practice or games to really show what he could do? What a bummer. Hard to believe a guy that was that dominant for us can't seem to make the NFL.
  • Spring Practice
We have gone from quarterback U to tight end U!!

As long as we turn those big tight ends who don’t start into some other useful position.
  • Spring Practice
Don't the big programs have their spring scrimmages on TV? Doesn't seem like they are as concerned about privacy.
  • Spring Practice
I guess the game will not be taped or shown on ESPN+? Any way to watch it besides in person?
  • MBB Off-season 2022
I remember some previous comments on this board that some team members felt Les' coaching style was a little abrasive at times. But I also read some comments over the years that were the opposite and the team loved him. So, I was never quite sure. I can see on the sidelines that is very passionate and competitive. Possibly with the team not doing so well maybe he rode these guys hard.

Maybe it has nothing to do with Les and more to do with Yolo County and the school having tougher covid restrictions than almost anywhere else putting us at a disadvantage and ruining their college basketball career. Hard to know what is happening for an outsider but something is up!
  • Gilliam is in the portal
That is great. I remember reading a thread a while back that said Coach Les wouldn't let a player back on the team if they chose to jump into the portal as it showed they weren't fully committed to the program. Glad that Coach Hawkins does not share the same philosophy. Seems reasonable for some players to want to see if they can make a move up to a higher level and increase their chances at getting into the NFL and if they don't have success in finding a school to take them than stay at Davis.
  • 2022 Football Recruiting
Recruiting class looks good. The past couple years seems to have been strong as well. Watched some of Newman's videos and looks like he has a strong arm and good mechanics. Hopefully, he is what we are looking for. He led his team to a state championship at the JC level, so good resume. If one of our existing guys beats him out then that is good news too. The two PAC12 transfers are good and a couple JC transfers for immediate impact hopefully. But not too many of them that it puts us in a spot in future years as too much talent graduates at once. Lots of linebackers, which is good. But we struggled on both sides of the line. The linemen we got had good size, but seems like we could have recruited even more.
  • 2022 Football Recruiting
Someone who is a 2nd or maybe even 3rd stringer at Berkeley or other big programs like that could be a great pickup for us and have an immediate impact. That is what I am talking about. A guy like Castles. I don't expect that a starting player at a big time FBS program who is making a good impact is going to transfer to us or another FCS program. But a strong player we would have loved to recruit out of high school, who took his shot at a FBS program and just got edged out for a starting position, wants to make a move to get playing time. That is what we would want.

A 1st or 2nd stringer at San Jose state or a similarly weak FBS program, may not even be strong enough to start for us. Unless we see something in them the other program does not, but that would be a tough call as we would have much more limited time with that player than their own program. With only a handful of catches in a whole year, doesn't sound like this guy was getting much playing time or just wasn't targeted.
  • 2022 Football Recruiting
We expect to be better than San Jose. Why would we take a WR from them who is not even their top receiver? We need taller receivers and defensive backs as well. I had hoped our recruiting expectations were higher and that the holdback on news meant we were really looking for some FBS transfers who could add immediate impact.
  • 2022 Football Recruiting
Do you think they are holding back on scholarship offers until the possible athletic fee referendum is settled? Or do you think they want time to really scour the portal more than they ever have?
  • 2021 FCS Football Playoffs
That should be good for recruiting
  • Keelan Doss: Falcon watch
Doss released from Jets practice squad 12/7.
  • Jordan Perryman to transfer
I was talking more about our guys leaving and not us picking up transfers. So if Perryman and Gilliam don’t get the FBS offers they are looking for would Hawk welcome them back to the team?
  • Jordan Perryman to transfer
I have heard that Jim Les feels the portal is a one way ticket. If they don’t get the offers they want they can’t come back. Does Hawk feel the same way?
  • 2022 Football Recruiting
What about Grant Harper. Good size, over 2,000 yards in junior and senior season. CIF titles. I kind of remember his signing with some fanfare. Did anyone ever hear how he did in camp?
  • 2022 Football Recruiting
There are not a lot of offers listed on page 1 of this thread. I remember reading from some other threads that some schools provided more scholarships this year as a result of some waiver due to covid, but that they might have to eliminate some of those next year. Would that mean some school would either have no recruiting class or they would have to pull scholarships from some kids causing a flood on the transfer portal?
