Superb video coverage of today’s game. Best I have ever seen for an Aggie football game.
  • Rd.2 PLAYOFFS Week 15: UC Davis vs. Illinois State
I rode past The Tomb this misty morning and was vividly reminded of a late November day in 1978 when the Ags took on Eastern Illinois. I had intended to watch the game but one of the student organizations needed volunteers to help with concessions. I spent most of the game ferrying food but was able to watch some of the last-minute heroics by the Aggies as they made a charge.

Bob Dunning was in early-career form as he reported for the Sacramento Bee:

I see we're getting yet another step up in video production, this time with serious, nearly NFL quality cameras (and hopefully camera operators.) As I watched them set up they seemed to be a highly professional crew.

Does anyone know who foots the bill for this? NCAA? ESPN?

TY works on defense. He has an amazing sense of when the ball is vulnerable and how to exploit it. The choice by the officials to not call the little stuff came to our favor. There was a lot of hands-on defense and grabbing for the ball - which we really need to do. There are officiating teams that don't allow much of it and it hurts us.

Of course it's a "biased" opinion: it's a personal opinion. I didn't run it by anyone. Harsh? I know he's a favorite but I've been reading him for as long as I've continuously lived in Davis (since 1980) and his material has gone down substantially. His "color" work on radio/TV has also degraded. So, yes, harsh.

Dunning is past his sell-by date at this point and should never be allowed on the radio.

A truly wretched article in the Davis Enterprise appears to say that Larison was 2nd team all conference. My wife read it first and said "what???" Then I read it and it does appear to say that. Bad fact checking or poor writing.

Our guard play hasn't been good in the past few games. TY seems to have been reading his press clippings. It's true that he's also been heavily defended, but it's also true that he's been picked clean multiple times because he was dribbling instead of passing the ball. The Ags have moved the ball well, sometimes, but they've often missed the open shooter.

And in the forecourt, we're out gunned. We're also missing many chances in the short-mid range that simply cannot be missed if we're to be competitive.
  • Andrew Luck is Stanford’s new GM
For high revenue teams Luck's GM position makes a lot of sense. Reaching down into the coaching staff with recruiting and up into the AD's position for fund raising and staffing, he'll have a lot of say into how the program evolves both during the season and in the long term. I can see other sports following this model.

I don't think it makes sense for UCD unless drooling idiocy has us setting our sights on BCS status.
  • Best of Thanksgiving
Turkeyberry sandwiches after Thanksgiving are The Best. Good bread, dressing, cranberry sauce, and sliced turkey. Epic.

Turnovers are hurting us - that and the inability to convert offensive rebounds into points.

What an amazing game and a great win by the Ags. No quit in this team.

Excellent performance by Norris who really came alive in the 2nd half. Being able to shoot from the outside helped to open up the middle.

Once again the way the officials chose to call a game has a dramatic effect. We've seen "anything goes" games and "how dare you touch that player" games. I think we do better in the former. And who likes a free throw contest or lots of players in foul trouble. The gradual constricting of what was permissible in the 2nd half was to our advantage. When players can be routinely hammered in the lane there's a forcing of the game to the periphery. Fine if you're hitting 3's but not so great if you're not.

The quality and the consistency of officiating is vital for basketball to fair.

Also - and a totally different thing - I'd love to see colleges play the 3 on 3 game from the Olympics. That was fabulous to watch.

The ESPN+ feed is much better at my house than the Comcast feed
  • WBB: Sac State (4-1) at the Aggies (1-3) 6 pm Wednesday 11/20
Hoping for a good start for the Aggie women in this game with lots of team play.

I've seen some positive minutes from Fitzgerald in the middle. And she's looking better with each game. And maybe see some reasonable outside shooting which just hasn't been there so far.

So close! The TV guys were mentioning the Idaho St game and saying, well it's not over, and then, gulp, it wasn't quite as over as many thought.

Kudos for the Aggies for embodying Aggie Pride. And that onside kick? Epic.
