  • WBB: The Aggies in the WNIT
Lost to a buzzer beater.Brutal ending for our women. Good game to watch and a fun one to play in I’m sure. Just not the outcome we’d like.
  • Coaching futures: Does UC Davis keep Jim Les for next season?
Major league eye roll here. I can’t see who we’d be in line to hire? But I’m in the camp that moving from the Big West is criminally stupid. But we know the answer: football. And we’ll dump our heritage at the same time by dumping our equestrian team.

Who invited Phi-Slamma-Jamma to this game?
  • WBB: The Aggies in the WNIT
    Good start for the Ags
  • MBB Big West Tournament, UC Davis (19-13, 11-9) v. CSU-Fullerton (17-16, 12-8), Thursday, Mar. 12, 8
We're up 16-13 but it feels like we should be down instead.
  • MBB Big West Tournament, UC Davis (19-13, 11-9) v. CSU-Fullerton (17-16, 12-8), Thursday, Mar. 12, 8
Talk about the gangs that couldn't shoot straight! Wow - this is brutal. And something happened to Sevilla.
  • 2026 WBB Big West Tournament
The Hawai'i game was just the opposite where it devolved into tackle basketball. Q4 was really physical with no calls.
  • MBB Big West Tournament UC Santa Barbara (18-13, 11-9) v. UC Davis (18-13, 11-9), Wednesday, Mar. 11
Sevilla hasn't been the same since he returned from injury. He's such a gutty player.
  • MBB Big West Tournament UC Santa Barbara (18-13, 11-9) v. UC Davis (18-13, 11-9), Wednesday, Mar. 11
At the half it's Poly over UCSD 35-16
  • 2026 WBB Big West Tournament
Good game to watch. The Ags are going to have to shoot well and quit going around screens and fight through them instead. Do the women have the energy in their legs? It's been a long season with the starting five taking the vast amount of the minutes.
  • 2026 MBB Big West Tournament
Where does the Mountain West have its tournament? Too lazy to look it up I'm afraid.
  • 2025-2026 Men’s Basketball All-Big West Teams & Award Winners Revealed
The women didn't fare much better with Norris on first team and Bennet on 2nd team.

That's the Big West saying "bye bye and don't let the door hit you on the butt as you leave."
  • MBB UC Davis (18-12, 11-8) at UC Irvine (21-10, 14-5), Saturday, Mar. 7, 5 pm, on ESPNU
And yet Sevilla is playing a rugged defense. I admire his game deeply. He’s tough.
  • WBB: UC Irvine (25-5; 16-3 BW) vs. UC Davis (22-8; 15-4 BW), Saturday, 3/7, 2:00 PM
Norris has been bothered by very physical play. That was certainly the case for Hawai'i and Long Beach.

It's funny - there are some teams I take a disliking to for some reason over the course of the game and others that I find myself admiring. UC Irvine is one of the teams I enjoy. I like how they play. UCSD is much the same way. Hawai'i and Poly fall into the "lesser reviled" category. <grin>
  • WBB: Long Beach State (5-23; 4-14 BW) vs. UC Davis (21-8; 14-4 BW), Thursday, 3/5, 6:00 PM
Bennet is so incredibly smooth. What a pleasure to watch her operate.
  • WBB: UC Riverside (9-17; 7-9 BW) vs. UC Davis (20-7; 13-3 BW), Saturday, 2/21, 2:00 PM
The WNIT always seems like a better draw than the NCAA
  • MBB Long Beach State (8-17, 4 -9) at UC Davis (15-10, 8-6), Saturday Feb. 14, 2 pm, on ESPN+
Cooper was in tears going into the locker room after the game - my wife says he got a huge hug from one of the coaches before entering the locker room. He certainly didn’t look like a happy person toward the end of the game both with body language and facial expression. I thought he played a good first half.

It was a very physical game with almost anything goes officiating - at least that’s how it seemed from my viewpoint.
  • WBB: UC San Diego (17-1; 12-8 BW) vs. UC Davis (17-7; 10-3 BW), Thursday, 2/12, 6:00 PM

Yep - the starters played much of the game, Norris all but a couple of minutes. There was a great moment between Norris and Joe during a time out. Norris came over and sat down, looking a bit gassed. Joe sat down beside her and they had this conversation. You could see it was coaching but it was just one-on-one while the rest of the team got Jen. Then Joe got up, Norris slid over and joined the rest of the team, and things moved on.

That was a unique moment in my watching of the team. Looked like good coaching to this oldster.
  • WBB: UC San Diego (17-1; 12-8 BW) vs. UC Davis (17-7; 10-3 BW), Thursday, 2/12, 6:00 PM
Whew - that was some game! I wasn't sure fatigue wouldn't do us in but OMG the women just kept the effort up. Norris had a horrid shooting night - except for those 3s toward the end when they were needed. She did great vacuuming up the rebounds, though. And the John Havlicek award has to go to Baker. She came in, jump started things, made some key buckets, got hands in for steals, and eventually fouled out but a huge effort. Do you think they know who John Havlicek was?

Wish there were more people there.

I salute the solitary band member who stood for the national anthem.
  • MBB Cal Poly (9-15, 5 -7) at UC Davis (14-9, 7-5), Saturday Feb. 7, 2 pm, on ESPN+
I thought Nils did a really good job in the 2nd half - much of his work won't show up in the stats but he was a factor on the defensive end. I watched a few of his interactions with Les as he came off - Les seemed to find positive things to say (based entirely on his body language.)

Marcus Wilson just plays such a steady game - you look up and suddenly he has 20 points.

Les was really managing Nico. His shoulder must be bugging him and maybe something else?

Sevilla made some killer 3's. He missed a few but they kept feeding him and he came through. A mentally tough kid.
