  • Jon Wilner article on NCAA chaos
    ↪SochorField
This is exactly the Super Conference that the media are lurking to bid on, isn't it? There's this new streaming venture out there in the wings with ESPN/Disney/??? that wants those rights. After that we've just shoved all the rest down into what is now the FCS scrambling for some $$$ and TV time.

It's all insane. Football has totally distorted college athletics so much it's not recognizable any more. The smaller sports, the Olympic sports, are left in the dust
  • Sacramento Kings star Mike Bibby to become Sacramento State's men's basketball coach
    ↪movielover

You might remember the first year but I remember the horrific game where UOP Pacific came and ran off to something like a 20-2 start and it never got better. Stewart left with the program in shambles. Jim Les started from pretty much scratch.
  • Post-Season for the Big West
Rough start for the Anteaters but they rallied to come back for a tie at the half.

Not a big crowd - so many empty seats - even the good ones

Good point. Ah the joys of recruiting.

    Go Aggie Women!!!

They should be feeling good after their first win in Henderson.

I see UCSD is kicking some serious Hawai’i behind at the end of the first half. Up more than 20. Whew.

    Let's dump the coach? Really?

Unless something has loosened up in Mrak you're going to have trouble pulling in athletes that can get into UCD. Money? Football is going to suck that up.

Face it: We're not in Irvine or Santa Barbara or anywhere else in the Southland or the Bay Area. Sacramento isn't interested in UCD - they have Sac State. We have farmers and some alum. The new college game is about the $$$ and we don't have that. We'll get some TV money from Mountain West. But you KNOW that will go to football.

TY stayed here because he wanted to. UCD had something to offer him. I hope it was the school and the coaching staff. It sure wasn't NIL money.

Not exactly a jam packed house. Less than 1,000?

    And they don't stop yacking!

Not a fan of this announcing team - seem to be pushing the Cal Poly story

  • WBB: 2024-25 Big West Tournament Scores
The Riverside / Long Beach game was a real snoozer with 31 points total scored in the first half. The Highlanders came alive from outside in the 2nd half. Two not great games.
  • WBB: UC Davis (18-11, 12-7) at UC San Diego (17-14, 13-6) Saturday, March 8, at 2:00 PM
That was a stunning 4th quarter. 29 points?? Egad! That was just amazing to watch. Sabel just found some new level. There was excellent ball movement. I wish they'd start stronger. My heart can't take much more of this! <grin>

During the ESPN+ women's broadcast the UCSD announcers noted that "our guy" is doing the ESPN2 broadcast for the game.
  • MBB: UC Irvine (25-5, 15-3) at UC Davis (15-14, 9-9) Thursday, Mar. 6 at 6:00 pm
I think they can't drop lower than 7th? Maybe?
  • Wow - that UCSB @ CSUN game
I think ESPN+ only keeps the games up for maybe a day or so?
  • WBB: Hawaii (20-6, 14-2) at UC Davis (17-10, 11-6) Saturday, March 1, at 2:00 PM
It was a GREAT crowd. You could feel the energy build as the ebb and flow of the game slowly brought the Ags first into contention and then into a narrow lead. Terrific moment for the families of the graduating seniors.

I very much liked the tribute videos they did with Greg Wong's voice over. Good work by the AV guys.
  • WBB: Hawaii (20-6, 14-2) at UC Davis (17-10, 11-6) Saturday, March 1, at 2:00 PM
There was an announcer for the Kings who'd say "If you don't like this game you don't like basketball!" Well, that applies here.

Terrific outing by the Ags. Probably the best defensive effort I've seen in some time by our women.

But I came away liking the Hawai'i team even though it was a very physical game.
  • WBB: UC Davis (16-10, 10-6) at CSUN (2-13, 4-20) Saturday, Feb.22 at 2:00 PM
A good win with lots of time for players who don't get much. I watched part of the game after we came home from the men's game. It won't go into the pantheon of great performances. But the starters got minutes along with the subs. That could really mean something at the tournament.

Next up: Hawai'i and senior day. It'll be tough to say goodbye.
  • MBB: CSUN (19-7, 11-5) at UC Davis (15-12, 9-7) Saturday, Feb. 22 at 2:00 pm
I can't figure that one out BlueGoldAg. It was definitely a foul. Cooper was hammered and he definitely went down on his wrist. His reaction was immediate. I haven't watched the TV video so I don't know what they said about it.

The long periods without a basket really hurt us. I still feel it's fatigue. The Ags play hard. They don't have a lot of depth.

Whatever it was a tough loss but a good game to watch. Adams is a fine player. He has this calm demeanor out on court. And the Ags didn't have many turnovers - again. If we don't have the depth we can't rest players when they need it. That's up to the coaching staff to recruit.
  • WBB: UC Davis (16-10, 10-6) at CSUN (2-13, 4-20) Saturday, Feb.22 at 2:00 PM
Irvine pummeled CSUN on Thursday. I think the Anteaters had 61 at the half. This should be an opportunity for lots of playing time for non-starters.

I was happy to see Harris back on court at Bakersfield.
