• MBB: UC Davis (9-8, 3-3) at Cal Poly (6-12, 0-6), Thursday Jan. 16 at 7:00 pm
We drive toward the hoop a lot - but no one seems interested in taking a mid-range jumper except TY. I'd like to see a shot chart.
  • Other Big West Games and Standings
That was the second sell-out ever for the Tritons. Great to see the stands filled with fans. Frankly I cannot imagine that at UCD unless it was a hyped game on ESPN.

Fun game to watch! Kudos to Russell Turner for an excellent game plan his team executed well. Having UCSD go cold from the outside certainly helped the Anteater cause.

The lights are up around the outfield. The old scoreboard has been removed. Changes they are a'coming.

I asked Rocko about season tickets. They currently are not offered. He said he'll look into it when he gets back from a trip. The High Wheelers labeled all the seats so they are pondering assigned seats instead of just general admission. Personally I'd just like GM seating. Looking forward to the first night game.
  • MBB: Long Beach State (6-10, 2-2) at UC Davis (9-7, 3-2) Saturday, Jan. 11 at 2:00 pm
This was not a happy game to watch. Mid 2nd half there was some ugly stuff going on in the middle on the Aggie end of the court. I can understand why Les got the "T."

Now watching the end of the UCI at UCSD game. Whew - both teams look pretty darn great. Turner came up with a great defense against the Tritons who can't shoot well from outside tonight.
  • WBB: UC Davis (11-4, 5-0) at Long Beach (8-5, 4-0), Saturday, Jan. 11 at 2:00 PM
We watched the Riverside - Hawai'i game and discovered that Daejah Phillips is no longer on the roster for "personal reasons" with no return date given. Hawai'i looked pretty darn good against UCR.

I haven't watched Long Beach this year. I hope the Ags bring their A game!
  • MBB: CSU Fullerton (5-11, 0-4) at UC Davis (8-7, 2-2) Thursday, Jan. 9 at 6:00 pm
Not a great showing for us. That last 3 by Conner was him shouting for the ball, totally confident that he’d down the shot. He played some really nice defense in the 1st half (where it was easier to watch for me) really clogging up the lane and helping out.

I have no idea why the Ags just go flat as they did in the 2nd half. They seem to move well, definitely not standing, but they don’t make good decisions. Perhaps they become too predictable? It seemed that Fullerton had learned and adjusted to what the Ags were doing. And the Titans, as observed above, pulled close on their free throw shooting.
  • WBB: UC Davis (10-4, 4-0), at Cal State Fullerton (2-12, 0-4 )Thursday, Jan. 9 at 7:00 PM
Not a problem - thanks for sharing.

You answered the general all-Aggie team. I was thinking of simply picking from our current team.
  • WBB: UC Davis (10-4, 4-0), at Cal State Fullerton (2-12, 0-4 )Thursday, Jan. 9 at 7:00 PM
Boy, the announcers for this game were awful. Almost as bad as the bros who did the Bakersfield game. Yammer yammer yammer and let’s talk about ourselves! I skipped ahead. We watched this after we got home from the men’s game.
  • WBB: UC Davis (10-4, 4-0), at Cal State Fullerton (2-12, 0-4 )Thursday, Jan. 9 at 7:00 PM
Thanks! I'd love to see 3x3 teams play in the Spring after the regular season is over. Just picking a squad would be fun! Who would you pick to be on an Aggie team for men and women? It's a tricky call.
  • WBB: UC Davis (10-4, 4-0), at Cal State Fullerton (2-12, 0-4 )Thursday, Jan. 9 at 7:00 PM
I came away from the Olympics loving the 3 on 3 game and wish I had known about the league.
  • WBB: CSUN (3-9, 1-2) at UC Davis (9-4, 3-0), Saturday, Jan. 4 at 2:00 PM
Fitzgerald continues to improve week over week. She's a dead-eye from the freethrow line. If she stays healthy this season (crosses fingers) she'll make a difference.

We get Fullerton first next week and the The Beach (are they still The Beach?) Fullerton is Not Good this year - they lost in OT against CSUN last Thursday giving up a 17 point 2nd half lead.

The intentional foul called in the 2nd half of our CSUN game definitely was flagrant as the offending player (with an immense lack of subtlety) pushed Epps to the deck. I think she learned that the previous game as a Fullerton player set a screen, with a push, suitable for the NFL on Thursday.

It's embarrassing that we can't manage to get the timing/scoring situation under control. I'm wondering if the Daktronics system is old? For some reason they can't use all four of the scoreboards at court level and we have repeated clock errors, more than any other venue in the Big West that I've seen and I watch games on EPSN+ quite a bit.

Our TV guys need to figure out the right settings for their cameras - the floor is over exposed by a lot. They've been under exposed in the past. Still, it's the best product we've had and the camera work and production choices is improving. We'll have to move up a gear for Mountain West. (sigh)
  • WBB: CSUN (3-9, 1-2) at UC Davis (9-4, 3-0), Saturday, Jan. 4 at 2:00 PM
The Ags looked static in Q2 but their defense came out of the half on FIRE as they pulled ahead and didn’t look back. Lots of playing time for the non-starters. Only two Ags in double figures and that was Eps and Sabel with 10. But lots of scoring down the lineup.

There was an obviously new referee who was being coached/corrected throughout the game which was interesting to watch.

Insightyfull summary - good job TrainingRm67! Thank you.
  • MBB: Cal Maritime (4-8) at UC Davis (7-5, 2-0)), Saturday, Dec. 28 at 4 pm
The talk at the intermission between games was that we got Maritime because the initially scheduled games with William Jessup were pushed off by the NCAA for . . . reasons. Something on the Jessup end was the problem. The only fill-in was Maritime.

I felt badly for the Keel Hauler women who were terribly over-matched. Some very sad faces walked past us at the intermission between games.

On the other hand for both the men and the women we got to see the offense move as intended.

I'm incredibly upbeat on our future women's backcourt: Bennett and Sussex both look really capable. I get the feeling Sussex won't get flustered - there's an air of confidence in her play and Bennett the same. They've adapted to the offense and seem to really "getting" college play. I think they'll both make contributions during conference this year.

Sahana Kanagasabay, even with the knee brace, showed some real quickness and a knowledge of where she was on court. And Fitzgerald definitely showed herself to good advantage. She's an interesting counterpoint to Norris in the center, possibly not as quick but she works for rebounding position well, blocks out, and seems to be coming on well.

Conference is going to be fun.

  • Big UCD baseball development ? Also 2025 schedule (mostly complete)
We did not. We had a family reunion in Minnesota and decided to drive so we were gone three weeks. I understand the players for the Oakland Ballers had awful accommodations early on - highly unsafe location.

I enjoyed the baseball we were able to see. We watched many of the road games on TV. There are some really nice ballparks out there courtesy of the the realignment of the minor leagues. Thanks MLB. Sigh.

I see the lighting standards are arriving. the first couple are already on site. I’ll be interested to see the configuration. Can’t wait for some night college baseball at Dobbins.
  • MBB: UC Davis (7-4, 2-0) at Pepperdine (5-7), Saturday, Dec. 21 at noon
I watched the Long Beach - Pepperdine game. We’re not matching up well with LB’s effort.
  • MBB: UC Davis (7-4, 2-0) at Pepperdine (5-7), Saturday, Dec. 21 at noon
They look out of synch and are letting Pepperdine get down court way too fast.
