MBB Cal State Fullerton (8-10, 3-3) at UC Davis (9-7, 2-3), Thursday Jan. 15, 6 pm, on ESPN+ There was an interesting interaction between an official and the UCD cheer squad who were sitting along the baseline in the blue area. He chased them off - telling them they needed to be behind the white line. He threatened to stop play unless they moved, which they did. I saw them talking with Rocko about it. In the 2nd half they moved to the other end of the court but eventually left before the end of the game.
So I looked up the rule. There's supposed to be "restraining line" 6' back from the baseline. During play no one is to be between that restraining line and the baseline. The backboard's support structure's leading edge is 6' from the baseline. I'm watching the women's game and the restraining line clearly marked on the court at Fullerton.
I've never seen this called before. Maybe it's becoming a player safety thing.
