• COVID-19
I'm all for putting my kids in a nursing home now, so that they will have a little better understanding of them when they decide it's time to put me in one.
  • Scary News if Real
He came here from a Pac-12 school. Not surprised to see Pac-12 schools looking at him, and expect he will check it all out. The coronavirus situation might make larger schools more attractive because they have a better chance of getting through this with less damage and their programs still intact.

I recall when the Ags won the D-II basketball title and Williams left that someone, probably the then A.D., said something like 'we knew we couldn't keep him here forever.'

Hope Blue stays, but wish him well wherever he ends up. Makes us realize what great things we had with Sochor, Foster, Biggs....who preferred the situation at bucolic lil ol' UCD.

I say having gone to a small high school, attending UCD, and getting a professional degree from a smaller school.

    Go Ags!

OK, now I've read it and we cn breathe a short sigh of relief...for now.

"Three candidates who were at one time among the front runners for the job -- Fresno State AD Terry Tumey, UC Davis AD Dr. Kevin Blue and UCLA senior associate athletic director Josh Rebholz -- have been told they are no longer being considered.

Tumey was never even interviewed for the position, according to sources."

Won't comment on the Tumey references. Nothing to be said.

Much prefer your interpretation. Can see though that it could be used to hold on to players, then if circumstances force the team to cut the player late in the pre-season, the player has fewer opportunities to latch on with another team.

Hopeing for the best for Keelan.
  • Keelan Doss: Raider Watch
That sounds less good. Bound to one team, can't negotiate with other teams, take that teams' offer or sit. Hopefully there is some money up front during the life of the tender.

Good luck to Keelan in any event.
  • Keelan Doss: Raider Watch
I give up, what's an "exclusive rights tender?" Sounds like good thing, but what's involved? Mostly, what is the upside for Keelan?

  • San Jose game out?
There is a “Covid-19” thread on the “OT Board” of this website which might be a better place for the free exchange of ideas on this particular topic.

He could still have some eligibility and collect social security at the same time.

Agreed. As I said we can go on forever about how the numbers are derived and testing is a big issue in all of this. My intent was only to point out that the numbers being tossed around now don’t come up with a rate in the .002 range. IF we could test everybody and IF the tests were reliable the rate would probably drop. We can all hope so.

And we can all hope for broader and accurate testing, effective treatments, and a vaccine so that we can get back to the important things in life like getting together and cheering for the Ags.

The most recent information I could find regarding Contra Costa County is that there have been 20 deaths out of 693 reported cases. That is from the Mercury News website published yesterday and updated within the last hour.

    https://www.mercurynews.com/2020/04/19/coronavirus-contra-costa-county-reports-seven-new-cases-one-death/

Dividing 20 by 693 results in a per capita rate of 0.02886.

The commonly cited 'death per reported case' rates for Covid-19 on a large scale are somewhere in the 3.0% to 4.0% range with the most typical number I have seen as 3.4%.

Globally, about 3.4% of reported COVID-19 cases have died. By comparison, seasonal flu generally kills far fewer than 1% of those infected.” [Empahsis in the original.]
    https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/coronavirus-death-rate/

That number is per cent, or per 100, as opposed to the per capita, or per individual figure I calculated above for Contra Costa County. To convert THAT figure to percentage, you multiply it by 100, (or move the decimal point two places to the right as we learned, oh, so long ago,) resulting in a percentage for Contra Costa County of 2.886%.

So, not as bad as the generally quoted figure for Covid-19 worldwide, but certainly much higher than "the less than 1%" accepted rate for the flu.

Now THAT is using the numbers provided. We could use up all of this website’s storage pointing out problems with arriving at the numbers…poor reporting, poorly defined standards on just what constitutes actually being infected with the virus, failure to report due to mistake, failure to report due to intentional concealment, poorly defined standards on just what constitutes the cause of death, lack of testing, sample size, …. the list goes on.

[And I have NO experience in medicine, epidemiology, etc., and when I took statistics back in the early 70s to complete a breadth requirement we did all of our calculations with pencil and paper.]

Somewhere here there is a joke about SJSU filling their stadium, but still being able to maintain proper social distance....but it would be wrong to say it...so I won't.

I'm with Dr. Mike on this (for what my opinion may be worth.) In the first place this is a fan site for Aggie fans. As I noted earlier, 'a good rule of thumb is don't talk religion or politics.'

I think discussion of the pandemic would be better held on a dedicated thread (or threads?) in the OT Board area:

    1. We can usually talk about our common interest, the Aggies, without bristling feathers over views that cross the line into politics, etc.

    2. If people want to talk about the pandemic, it is hard to do that here as there are threads in probably each of the sports sub-categories that have dipped into that. Better to put them all in one place. I would think the "OT Board" is a good place for that.

This pandemic will probably be the major event of most of our lives...as our parents or grandparents had WWII. I don't want to down play it, and I think it is appropriate it...but an OT Board is a better place than a football, basketball, baseball or Other Sport sub-board.

Having said that, wash your hands.
  • Picnic Day
I'm just taking a shot here, but we know that events like Picnic Day are planned long in advance. Even moving it a few weeks takes a lot of planning. If we look back 3,4,5 weeks ago, who ever thought we'd be where we are today? Say the school moves it 5 weeks, and then 3 or 4 weeks from now things haven't changed, or are worse, so they are faced with moving it again. And, with the current state of affairs, who is around over the next couple of weeks to do all the "stuff" that has to be done to make the move?

Sometimes you just bite the bullet.

Again, just my two cents (which according to my banker is now only one cent.)
