• Azusa Pacific Bringing Back Football @ D3 level
Just working off my aging memory I don't think there are any D-2 football teams in California anymore. I think Humboldt was the last one standing. I think the only D-3 football teams are those in the SCIAC. The last I heard the Lincoln Oaklanders are still not members of the NCAA or NAIA in any division.

    "But I could be wrong."
  • WBB: Big West Tournament Championship: UC San Diego (19-15, 13-7) vs. UC Davis (21-11, 13-7), Saturd
Has the WNIT become one of those lower rated tournaments where teams pay to participate?

The WNIT website says Auto qualifiers are "Teams that were the highest regular-season finishers in their conference that did not receive a bid into the NCAA Tournament or WBIT."

In a quick look I don't see any mention of the Big West or Big Sky. There are probably others...Big 12? SEC?

WNIT is owned by a company out of Ft. Collins, CO that conducts several tournaments in basketball and volleyball. I cannot help but wonder if participation is a pay to play situation or a contract with the conferences. Then I wonder about a lot of things anymore.
  • Causeway Cup 2024-25
UCD defeated Sac in gymnastics in a match at Sacramento tonight 195.800 - 195.250.
Running Causeway score is now UCD 51.6, CSUS 9.1.

Next scheduled meeting is in beach volleyball in the Big West Challenge in San Luis Obispo on March 22.
  • Causeway Cup 2024-25
Rough day for softball as the Aggies lost to Sac, 10-2 in five innings, as the mercy rule or run-ahead rule was invoked in a game at Davis.

Causeway score is now UCD 49.1, CSUS 9.1.

Next event is gynastics on March 14 in Sacramento.
  • Causeway Cup 2024-25
Sac defeated the Aggie women in softball this afternoon, 6-5, in a game in Sacramento.

Running Causeway Cup score is UCD 49.1, CSUS 6.6.

Next Causeway event is a return softball game on March 2nd to be played in Davis.
  • Causeway Cup 2024-25
CSUS finished in 2nd place of 12 teams with a three round score of 855, while the Ags finished in 4th place with a final score or 873 strokes.

Running Causeway score is UCD 49.1, CSUS 4.1

Next event, I think, is softball tomorrow in Sacramento.
  • Causeway Cup 2024-25
Hardly surprising for someone born during the Truman administration, but I goofed on the dates for the women's Causeway Invitational golf meet. It started yesterday, the 24th, and concludes today, the 25th. After two rounds the Ags are in third place, 14 strokes behind Sac and Oregon State who are tied for first, and one stroke ahead of fourth place Cal Poly.

(Update: and the team is not having a good round this morning.)
  • Sac State's bid for the Pac 12 Thread
Yet another question mark for the rumored Sac move to Pac-x or some other FBS conference. Conference athletics are more than one sport. So far in the 2024-25 season, with the completion of fall sports and well into the basketball seasons, only Sac's volleyball team has a winning record. Very litttle likelihood that either of the basketball teams is going to change that.
  • Causeway Cup 2024-25
Aggie gymnastics defeated Sac State, 195.175 - 194.750 in a dual meet in Davis this afternoon. Causeway score is now UCD 49.1 - CSUS 2.5.

Next event is softball in Sacramento on February 26 and women’s golf at the Causeway Classic at the Del Paso Country Club in Sacramento on February 26th and 27th.
  • Causeway Cup 2024-25
Aggie men’s tennis team defeated Sac, 4-1, today in a match held in Sacramento. This puts the Causeway score at UCD 46.6 - CSUS 2.5, and gives the Ags the Causeway Cup for the 2024-25 year.

Next scheduled event is gymnastics this coming Sunday, February 16th at Davis.
  • Causeway Cup 2024-25
Looks like there is a third scheduled competition between women's golf teams, the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational in Maui, HI, on March 24-26. Each women's golf event is now worth 1.6 points rather than 2.5, (leaving us with that annoying one-hundredth of a point just sitting there waiting to be awarded). Score is now UCD 41.6, CSUS 2.5.
  • Causeway Cup 2024-25
UCD finished fourth with 192.600 points and Sac finished third with 193.000 point in a four team event in San Jose. Boise State came in first and host San Jose State was second.

This is not part of a home and away dual meet competition so the results do not count in the Causeway Cup. Next scheduled Causeway Cup competition is men's tennis on February 14th in Sacramento. The two gymnastic teams will compete in a dual meet on February 16th in Davis.
  • Sac State's bid for the Pac 12 Thread
Meanwhile there is an article on the Sac Bee website reporting that Sac State as a whole is facing a $45 million budget cut.
  • Causeway Cup 2024-25
Added beach volleyball. This should complete the schedule, but Spring schedules should always be written in pencil.

    Go Ags!
  • Causeway Cup 2024-25
UCD came in second behind Sac State and ahead of Wisconsin - Oshkosh in a meet in Sacramento yesterday. Scores were Sac 194.700, UCD 193.525, UW-O 191.175 This is not part of a home and away dual meet competition so the results do not count in the Causeway Cup.

Next competition between the two schools is another gymnastics meet, this time a four team event in San Jose which will include San Jose State and Boise State.

Next scheduled Causeway Cup competition is men's tennis on February 14th in Sacramento.
  • Sac State's bid for the Pac 12 Thread
Rivalries are rivalries but should be kept in perspective. Harvard and Yale have a rivalry and both schools supply the nation with great workers and the occasional misfit. Same for Cal and Stanford, Ohio State and Michigan, Duke and North Carolina, etc.,... Where I take issue with SSUCDalum are comments like "we root for UCD outside of causeway. All the disrespect calling us janitors is just bs" and "I bet I make more money than most of you on here."

As noted there are people on the Sac site who refer to UCD as the Dung Pile and the Manure Pile...and not just referring to the Causeway game.

Moreover I don't give a damn how much SSUCDalum makes, or how fancy a car SSUCDalum drives, or just how great SSUCDalum is in intimate pursuits. Nice to know SSCUDAlum measures life by that standard.
  • Sac State's bid for the Pac 12 Thread
I bet the transfer portal is filled with stories like Rodney's. Great athletes who are one move away from making it to the next level, or from peaking where they are. Sounds like a good one for Sac if things are clicking and they apparently clicked with Coach Marion. Sac lost an RB and now gained one.
  • Sac State's bid for the Pac 12 Thread
For what it's worth, Conklin tweeted, Xed, TikTokked, or Instagrammed, or somethinged, that he is staying with Sac and Coach Marion.
  • Causeway Cup 2024-25
Added softball as posted on the Sac website.
  • Sac State's bid for the Pac 12 Thread
    1. KCRA reporting that Sac HAS hired Marion as the new head coach.
    2. Nothing on the Sac sports site says that Conklin entered the portal. Scudero did, but has not signed with anyone and of course Sac fans are hoping he withdraws from the portal if Marion signs, which as noted he apparently has.
