  • 2024 Week 6: UC Davis (4-1) @ Portland State (0-4)
Right! My kid's high school played in the 6A championship game last fall, and I was like, WTF? Luckily, my son went to the Oregon and Oregon State games, so he knows we're not a high school team.

    Finn, I'll be in touch.

Welcome back to Portland! My oldest son and I will be there too. Let's make sure we connect in person.

I get it. It was kind of a pipe dream anyway, but it was fun to dream. And to be frank, do we want to join FBS in its current state? I say we let the dust settle and see where all this plays out.

Having said that, it's not a good email. Blaming donations is a copout for his careless tweet.

This is an interesting site. Thanks for sharing! I forgot we played UTSA. I assume they were FCS in 2011?

True. It's definitely a stopgap. Maybe it’s just me, but it seems like things for them are moving too fast. And I’m not being bitter. I’m happy for them, but maybe more planning is needed.

It's not a recipe for success. Students would have to get in their cars and drive to home basketball games, albeit just 6-7 miles, but still not walking distance. And what about volleyball?

    Appreciate the update!

What a mess. Let's sit this around out ;)

Their “defense” is allowing 53.5 points a game :chin:
  • Sac State to get a New Stadium
The current students and alumni are not interested in FCS football, so last night's low attendance was not surprising.

But if we build it, students will start attending UC Davis for the education AND athletics. It will take time, but the fan base will grow, and some alumni will start showing interest.

Attendance will not change until we change.

ESPN+ for me. I am trying to make it down for the Cal Poly game. We’re looking at colleges for my oldest, and I want him to see Davis with all the students.
  • Football crowd participation ideas
The chicken man at Toomy was something special. Toomy games were insane.

Another great podcast! I can’t imagine all the work that goes into putting one together. I (We) appreciate it.
  • Sac State to get a New Stadium
Let’s not forget about our new $40 million sports-health complex. Sacramento still has a long way to go.

You’re on a fan message board, relax a little and enjoy it.

Entitled might be a poor choice of words. This is our university, too. We all paid thousands of dollars to go there, and we continue to support the university, where some won’t give it a second thought.

Nobody attends UC Davis for sports unless you’re participating in one. It will take time, but if we build it, the students will come. The incoming class of 2026 might have 100 students coming to UC Davis solely based on athletics. Then, in 2027, we might get 200; that’s how a fan base is built.

We’re a top-10 public university. We need to start acting like it.

What happened to the "athletics are the front porch of the university ..." quote Chancellor May shared with us years ago? I'm tired of living only 500 miles away from UC Davis and having to tell people, "Yes, we have a football team. "Yes, we're a tier 1 university."

I don't know. I'm in a mood watching all the Oakland fans lose 60+ years of memories today.

    The "show more ..."

    1. Securing $50M in NIL commitments to cover the first 10 years in the PAC 12.
    2. Securing funding and approvals to build a new, state-of-the-art football stadium that seats at least 25,000 attendees.
    3. Securing funding and approvals to build a basketball arena that seats at least 6,500 attendees.
    4. Turning out at least 15,000 attendees per home football game for the remainder of the season.
    5. Securing $5.25M in Conference Fees for NCAA realignment into the PAC-12.
