Wondering why Indiana is only ranked 8th? None of the Big-10 teams they've beaten has a winning record.

Montana State up by 28-0 in first half.
  • 2024 Week 11: UC Davis (8-1) @ Montana (7-2)
Seems like it's going to be a high scoring game. Two good offenses, less than stellar defense for UM.

I've read Gauchofreg's analysis of UC Davis and I agree with him about the perennial frontcourt problems we've had. It seems to be Coach Les' Achilles heel. At this point, he seems to favor the new guy, 6' 9" Isaiah Chappell, who has contributed along with Rocak and Tamba in front. Still, we all wonder why Borra and Mani have not had more playing time and it makes me wonder if they are injured. If not, are they getting the kind of coaching they need? Does anyone know if one of the assistant coaches is responsible for the big men's player development? Between Borra and Mani, they have gotten exactly zero minutes so far and I know the two games have been tight. Hope to see them get more time against Menlo. Against any time with size, we're going to need them.

Between getting TY and Lan Larison to stay at UCD says something about the campus. I'm guessing they both gave up lots of NIL money and a chance at the media spotlight to remain at UCD. Of course, this says something about the coaches and programs, but tit also speaks well of the campus environment, the academic quality and the values of these young men. but now I'm preaching to the choir.

A nice win, albeit sloppy at times. TY still carried most of the offensive load, but Tamba (!) got 17 and the rest of the starters contributed 20. Note that the Muscovites only got 9 3 pt. attempts in the second half and hit 4, compared to 9 for 16 ihn the first period. The guys did a good job especially of guarding Idaho's Mers, #2. I liked the guy doing the color commentary for Idaho. He was relatively unbiased and knew what he was talking about, made some nice observations.

    While UCD was defeating Idaho:

CSU Bakersfield obliterated NCCAA Bethesda 122-53.
Cal Poly lost to Cal 91-73.

Plus the Aggies have guarded the foul shooting very well, holding Idaho to 56.5%! :)

I don't think the D has been that bad. They've forced 16 turnovers and have 8 steals. Idaho has been able to make 3s. Good offense always beats good defense.

I agree that the offense was ragged the first 8 minutes or so, but they really did settle down, committing no turnovers after starting with 7. On the other hand, I agree that some TY needs help on the scoring. I thought Daughtery was supposed to be good shooter but he hasn't found the range yet. Rocak and Lose need to look to score. They have only one field goal attempt between them.

I thought the team made some nice adjustments toward the end of the half. The matchup zone caused problems for the Vandals. I don't think poor defense was responsible for the end of half scores by Idaho. They made 9 of 16 from 3, accounting for 67.5% of their scoring. Most times, teams cool after in the second half. The Aggies just have to stick to the way they played toward the end of the half.

Where's the offense? Only 2 assists in 14 minutes and 7 turnovers. Players are not executing. Sloppy passing. Poor shot selection.

Good time out by Coach Les to fix the holes in the defense.

Defense suddenly falling apart as Ags fall behind by 7.

But since 2016, the Aggies are undefeated against Idaho.

Great for TY scoring 35. Not so great that he almost half of the team's total.

I think Oldbanduhalum called it right: the Ags experience helped them away and against a bigger team of transfers. Anyone miss Eli Pepper? Without him, no one is scoring much besides TY. Even with Eli, this was often a problem last year as I recall, with no one to pick up the offense besides TY and Eli, except for an occasional burst from Kane Manning. Wish I had been able to watch the end, but the box score reveals two concerns: UCD had only 6 assists and went 6 of 27 from 3. On the positive side, they made 80% of their foul shots and held their own on the boards.

Well, I lost the feed with 12 minutes left. Go Ags!

Jdur steered me to Fox Sports online where I found the broadcast. Aggies holding their own so far! Solid defense and drawing a lot of fouls on offense.

I was so irritated I posted the previous message on the football page, but alls well that ends well thanks to Jdur.
