  • Top Aggie Alum Basketball Coaches
This reminds me of all the great football coaches who played for Jim Sochor. I don't think I should list them all here, but if someone (not me) has a comprehensive list, it would be a great post on the football discussion site.
  • 2023 Preseason FCS Football Polls
Hmmm smells like the NCAA basketball tournament.
  • New Rule Changes for Football
I always thought that they stopped the clock after a first down to allow the chain gang to reset? On the other hand the NFL does not do it, so maybe the chan gangs will just have to hustle like the pros.
  • 2023 Preseason FCS Football Polls
What I meant was that in comparison to the reason for a top 25 in the FBS, the FCS poll covers the top 25 teams which is just one more than the total qualifying for the playoffs. I would be surprised to see many of the top 25 in the polls not make the playoffs.
  • 2023 Preseason FCS Football Polls
Why 25? My theory for the FBS polls is that it limited the number of teams that the national media needed to focus their coverage on. Hard to cover over a hundred teams. At the FCA level, it makes a bit more sense considering that the playoffs involve 24 teams, no?
  • Pepper returning for another season!
    This news makes my year!
  • Gabe Vincent
No Lakers, no Celtics, but a former Big West player in the NBA Finals!
  • 2023 Recruits?
I guess I don't understand why Roberson coming is a sign that Pepper is going?
  • Gabe Vincent
In case you missed it, Gabe Vincent lead Miami to a game 3 blowout of the Celtics by not only starting at point guard, but leading the Heat with 29 points. He made 6 of 9 treys, grabbed 2 rebounds and made 3 assists. Not bad for an undrafted Gaucho, who is very likely going to be in the NBA finals.
  • Gabe Vincent
Having done a little research, I also found out that Bob Gross was a player for the Beach before winning a title with the Portland Trailblazers. Another former previously 49er was Craig Hodges who rode the bench behind Jordan. et al. Plus Scott Brooks was at UCI and won an NBA championship with Houston in 1998. There are probably more going back to when the Big West was the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference and had the likes of San Diego State, Pacific and Nevada as well as UNLV.
  • 2023 Recruits?
How tall were T. J. Shorts and Ezra Manjon?
  • 2023 Recruits?
I wonder if he's any relation to the Traore brothers at Long Beach State?
  • 2023 Recruits?
I found this website showing all (?) players who have entered the transfer portal, the school they're leaving and the school they're going to (if known yet). I could find no one from UC Davis, either coming or going yet, but Cal is losing most of its starters (and from a 3-29 team that might not be a bad thing). https://theresourcenexus.com/transfer-portal-basketball/
  • 2023 Recruits?
Good news: He's not going into the transfer portal. With only two rounds in the NBA draft, I doubt he'll get drafted, but for his sake, I do wish him success.
  • March Madness
Nice to see a west coast team make it to the Championship game. This is only the fifth time that has happened this century (Arizona, 2001; UCLA, 2006 and Gonzaga twice recently) and the eighth since UCLA's run under John Wooden. I'm not sure why the west has been so weak for the past 50 years, because way back when, Stanford, Oregon, Cal, Utah, Wyoming, and USF all won titles in addition to all the UCLA championships.

What surprises me most is that an associate professor makes $3.4M. That has to include income from grants? It's about 50 times what I made when I was an associate prof. (not adjusted for inflation). Still, I agree that it's insane that so much money is paid to coaches and can only hope it is worth it in terms of revenue to the schools.
  • 2023 Recruits?
    You're very funny!
  • Big West Basketball Coaching News
Is it still true that the highest paid California state employee is the UCLA football coach?
  • Aggie Sports Talk off line
Thank you for the explanation, but I wasn't upset, just concerned as to whether the site was in danger of shutting down. I very much appreciate this chat site because I don't know any other Aggie fans out here in Hawai`i and my friends are not as ardent as I am about following UCD sports. I've got a few who live in the Sacramento area who never go to any of the games! It's great to be able to share my opinions and reactions to the Ag football and men's basketball teams.

I note that Ezra scored 18 against Yale, then 17 against Michigan as Vanderbilt gets closer to the NIT final four. They play UAB tomorrow in a game broadcast on ESPN2.
