  • Slack State to offer program in fighting.
OK here we go: you get an A for a first round KO. The other fighter a 0. No credits for possible brain damage from a concussion. An A for an arm lock submission. Zero for the loser. Again no credit for possible oxygen deprivation to the brain (which is apparently not an issue with sac state education). Look we are not here talking about women’s wrestling, or boxing which are acceptable sports, but full contact no holds bar fighting. Uriah Faber style. Really sad to see him a UC Davis grad advancing this really stupid program. Oh, by the way who do they compete against? Answer: Them selves. No other school would even consider this ridiculous program.
  • WBB: Santa Barbara (13-6, 7-2) @ the Aggies (10-9, 6-3) 6 pm Thursday 2/01
I hope she picks up Morgan’s spin move as well. With that skill set could exceed Morgan’s since she is a proven three point shooter. She’s the future heart of Aggie WBB!
  • Yolo High Wheelers will bring lights to Dobbins Stadium
Well, this is pretty cool. Finally we get lights! Portable or not they will be a great enticement to go to a game. And these guys apparently are very serious. Portable sports lights are not cheap. 6 lights go for around $3300 a month. 8 for around $4400. Go to SportsLightsSupply.com to check out the latest. Maybe UCD will be able to help?
  • Yolo High Wheelers will bring lights to Dobbins Stadium
A couple of questions: what level of play is the pioneer league? Will the Aggies be able to use the lighted field too? I.e to play night games?
  • MBB: Irvine (13-5 & 6-0) @ the Aggies (11-7 & 6-1) 2 pm Saturday 1/20
I think that there are several other players who could have jumped into the portal but didn’t. Most notably LL and TT. That is a testament to their loyalty to the team, university and, most importantly to their teammates. That intangible kind of stuff is noted by the scouts as a component of a winning personality and a strong locker room culture. I would empathize that I am in no way criticizing those players who did transfer out. Every case is different. Simply said,. Eli is a great player and person.
  • Causeway Cup 2023-24
Rugby is such a great spectator sport! My best friend played in law school. Especially when you can get right onto the sidelines and see the action up close. I used to ride my bike to campus on a Saturday and see the men’s and woman’s games for awhile right on Russell. They were so entertaining to watch. And UCD was then a very good rugby team both men and woman. We used to beat Stanford and BYU regularly. Cal not so much. It is Such a great sport for young men and woman to play college sports who can’t quite make to and ICA D1 team. Looking good for our current squad. I wish we had a Dean witter guy who could write a check to at least fund a full time rugby coach like witter did for cal. Then we could compete on a level playing field with the Cal’s and byu. Hey, it’s now an official Olympic sport!
  • Slack State to offer program in fighting.
A few questions come to mind. State / federal funding for a fight club? A nonstarter. Effect on education and healthcare when a participant suffers a concussion or worse. Not good. Title IX. How many young college women are willing to work in this field. Zero. Really sorry to see Uriah get into this situation. Actually a very bad idea.
  • Is it possible that the Graduate could return?
Movie that is great news. Can they sneak in a mini grad or a real grad
  • Is it possible that the Graduate could return?
So it is finally flattened. I wonder if the new owners have a clue about how davis operates. Davis hates chain stores and chain restaurants and chain anything. So no forever 21, no cost plus, no mom and pops, no fluffy donuts, no clock works, so who do they get?
  • "The End of College Football As We Know It"
End stage capitalism is when “everything is about the money” and it sure seems that FBS college football has now reached this point. But what about FCS? Can it last by being the minor, minor league developmental player factory for the minor league to the NFL which is the FBS? We lost Jordan Perryman to the portal couple of years back and he now starts for Washington. We are fortunate we haven’t lost more. LL and TT are truly outliers by not going the portal route this year. We won’t be so lucky in the future IMHO. What’s the point? Recruit a star player and watch him vanish into the portal like perryman? Truly a sad state of affairs.
  • Transfer Portal 2024
Isn’t there a time limit to stay in the transfer portal? I believe it was 45 days the last I looked. I don’t know when he entered so not sure of his status.

River, I agree and I think this is why the IRS will find that collectives do not fit the mold of 501c3. There’s nothing charitable about what they do and they are there just to be able to pay college athletes cash money. That is, cash money that helps the teams succeed and in turn make more money for the college; I.e. make more of a profit.
  • 2024 Football Recruiting
Great story in the New York Times today about what NIL and the so called collectives are doing to college football; I.e how a Texas lineman is making $50,000 a year to play football! Should donations to a collective be tax deductible as a 501(c)(3) non profit organization? IRS has issued a memo saying in effect “No”. Can a football collective withstand Title IX? Doubtful. I have not checked all the Big Sky programs but so far Sac, Montana and Montana state have announced that their NIL collectives are up, and running. I assume that we are eventually going to do the same. If the moral and ethical justification for NIL is that universities should not make money from an athletic program and not pay the student athletes who generate that money, what about a university that makes no money from say football or basketball players? This is not addressed in article.

What is the difference between a preferred walk on and a walk on if any?
  • 2024 Football Recruiting
Movie: yes. And he has said as much in so many words, especially regarding the Idaho State game which he described as “the hardest game I ever coached” and he is well past the point in his life where he has to look forward to that again every couple of years.
  • 2024 Football Recruiting
River, LL played behind the all time best UC Davis RB in UG. They had to play UG every down as long as he could stand up. How could they have ever had known how good LL really was during the UG days while UG was playing (exceptionally well) almost every down until this season? No, I think that the real depth of LLs talent did not become apparent to the staff until the start of this season. And we did not have the right coaching staff to blend LL and MH into an effective combination. Just plain inadequate or bad coaching in my view. Recall beginning of last season all the spotlights were on TT as the so called “magic man”? Back then there was barely a mention of LL, it was all on TT who actually did deserve the attention. I reiterate, the season was lost because of poor or inadequate coaching and a very distracted head coach who had no time or inclination to make the hard decisions that were necessary at the time. IMHO.
    Love the Hawk!
  • 2024 Football Recruiting
Well, I say we turn to the running back position where we thankfully do not have a problem. The following is just my opinion. I 0think that the coaches did not anticipate how fast LL would develop coming into this season; that is into an elite D1 running back by anyone’s definition. So their focus was on MH and the development thereof. Like many on this site I think that the Former OC was not on top of this situation and did not help things with the lack of development of the WRs and TEs and that MH was not at his best with the progressions necessary for playing his position because of the lack of coaching. Opponents saw the weakness.. Next season we have a whole different situation. Opponents will be forced to key on LL and allow a lot of play action for MH. We will have a much better WR corps with the addition of Robbie Mascheroni and Malachi Bean-Seay to the lineup.
As a follow up I will add that this season was extremely difficult for Hawk due to his son leaving and becoming a coach of an adversary Big Sky team WHICH HE KNEW HE WOULD HAVE TO PLAY!
That this was a distraction would be a great understatement.
Love the Hawk and his whole family and wish them all well for the future.
    Merry Christmas to all,of you!
  • 2024 Football Recruiting
I do not think that the two quarterback system is the future.
For one, it becomes very predictable with the analytics of the game.
For two, it undermines your leadership of the team I.e. who the best leader?
Three, no ranking big five uses it
Four, no NFL team uses it
OK Sac has done ok with this system for now but will not do well long term
Because how do do recruit a gifted QB and tell him he will be a part time player?
Very hard to do. Can it happen? Maybe but I don’t think so.

Don’t rule out Kainoa Acia at RB. That is for the future of course as he is just a freshman and did not play last season. He is a very athletic young player and former wrestler. Very smart kid. Dos anyone remember another former wrestler and Aggies LB Tim Lajic? He was one of the most fearsome and formidable players to ever play as a Aggies LB.

I think your dad was at that Bonino dinner when Bob was there.we probably sat at the same table. I believe your dad is Tom L. Is that correct? If so I love your dad and mom. Great people. The last I heard is that there was a medical malpractice lawsuit brought against the hospital that treated him. I don’t know how that resolved.
