    Why don’t we offer Skattebo?
  • MBB: Holy Names (4-6) at UC Davis (6-3) Tue. Dec.13, 6 pm
Took a look at Ezra manjons stats at Vanderbilt. Despite playing and mostly starting a lot, his stats are not that impressive yet. Team is 5-5. He is averaging 6.4 Points a game. 1 for 10 in threes. Sure wish he was still with us.
  • SI Suggests Troy Taylor for Stanford
Let’s see if this has any effect on the portal deflections. Pretty conservative hire by sac, but probably designed to keep players.

But, can he get into Stanford? I am sure TT and he want that to happen, but can it? This might be a cascading effect for sac not only for players but for the coaching staff as well. For them, I hope not, but it really depends on what TT told the parents at recruiting time. My opinion is that TT a was a much better recruiter and motivation coach than a technical OC. Which is actually what you want with a HC. No chance he will be an Aggie in my opinion but I hope I am wrong.
  • SI Suggests Troy Taylor for Stanford
Stanford provides housing for all of its football coaches. Shaw was given a 7000 sf compound in Rio Del Mar as part of his compensation. Taylor will be well provided for in that regard. With respect to how this effects Sacramento's football program I think we have to wait awhile before it sinks in for the players and the present coaches. They for now are conflicted about losing yesterday and also being proud and sad of losing their excellent coach in Taylor to Stanford. I predict a change of hearts over time to possibly get a bit more critical of Taylor because a lot of recruiting is based upon the expressed or implied promise that the coach recruiting the player will actually be their coach and not, as Taylor just did, quit and move on to very much better pastures. It first begins with the parents who sat at the kitchen table with Taylor and heard his pitch to recruit their kid. Then he decides to leave. Is this a breach of trust you may say? Mom certainly may think so. Moms matter. Stay tuned as this story is still being written. . . .

I have no idea. I am not that competent on this subject. I just know Stanford is a very stuffy place. I would throw out there Jeff monken at army. But I really have no idea. Hope Taylor gets it.

I would be shocked if Stanford hired Taylor. I just dont think Stanford has the balls to do this. Which is what they should do.
  • Cody Hawkins new Idaho St. Coach
Great news for the Hawkins family! Wow. Two HCs in the same family is not unheard of, but very uncommon. father and son. Rare. Very rare indeed. Maybe happened before? I can’t think of another.
  • Baldwin out at Cal Poly
    My how memories fad!
  • Hello!
Hey Greg first thing do not feel like you are an outsider. Uc davis is a very welcoming place as are all Aggies fans. I realize Oklahoma is very different from California ( i had many clients in OK when I was practicing law) but davis is a pretty cool little town. You will feel welcome here. I spent many a nice day in Stillwater and it felt a lot like davis for me. Even got my hair cut there and it was excellent!
  • Baldwin out at Cal Poly
No Aggie stadium. First year or two of opening.
  • Baldwin out at Cal Poly
I realize this is a bit off topic, but since we’re talking about old faces reinventing themselves how about this one. We all know about the forty Niners QB problems, but did you know who Brock Purdys back up is? JOSH JOHNSON. Yes, that Josh Johnson who had the spectacular melt down at Aggie Stadium in I think 2003 or 2004 when he in a rage charged the Aggie pack section and had to be restrained physically. Yes he is on the roster at the ripe old age of 36! (I believe) have to give the guy real credit for sticking it out. He was a player for sure. Ever since that episode the visiting team has been located on the west sideline. Gotta love that Aggie pack!
  • Campus to move Spring graduation to Sac!
I also think May wants to make the uc davis/sacramento schism disappear or at least reduced substantially. Make it more like uc davis-sacramento. Hence, we will soon be offering undergraduate classes in sacramento at Aggie square. UC davis health will soon dominate the sacramento region in terms of healthcare. Why not dominate the region educationally? I believe student housing is planned for sacramento based uc davis students at Aggie square. So there is a trend going on for sure. I am 50-50 on the concept.

Huge! It should help some of the other offers decide on UC Davis. And it will help fill the WR gap we may have next year. I am somewhat in disbelief that we got him. . .
  • SI Suggests Troy Taylor for Stanford
Never happen. Stanford is just another place. Many thought Sochor would be a great choice for the Stanford HC. But no, none other than John Brodie said no. Something about him being not Stanford enough. His qualifications for that statement: his wife was from woodland and she agreed.
  • What Will It Take to Keep Pace with the Success of Sac State Now?
Hawk is not a mediocre coach. If you actually believe that state the evidence that supports it! Of Which there is very little. IMHO

And now we have the Edwards Athletic Center. What will it do for recruiting? A lot of folks out there believe it will be a great success. I have no idea. Did it influence Larison? Tompkins? If it had any effect it was on their mothers I think. As Dads, we want our kids to win and win and win! Moms want their kids to be happy and live long and productive lives. Yes,and win too, but with a lot less emphasis on that. So my sense is that to really recruit well you have to sit down with the players parents and, yes, consider the value of the mother’s interest as well as the dads. Hawk and TT both seem like they are very good at this. From what little I know about them, Hawk might be a bit better that TT with the moms because he goes off topic so often. He is not totally focused on the athletic issues. Like Sochor he’s a bit of the renaissance man! Both guys very cool and at a party I would love them both.

I will just chime in here I as await dinner. I am no football guru, but I have followed Aggies football for probably 40 years. Went to all of Sochors home games. Met him a few times and he was always very humble and cordial. He was probably one of the best college football coaches in all time and a lot of that was due to his connection with his players. I have never heard a negative comment about Sochor as a coach. But I do remember a comment he made at a golf course in napa the year Gould was hired. I asked “how do you think he will do” he answered “he will do great if he’s lucky”. I then asked if He was lucky. He said “you bet I was”. And how I asked and he said do you remember a guy named O’Brian? I did. He was a transfer from of all places sacramento state! I know all of you older guys know this. But Sochor was a lucky man and he knew it. Didn’t napoleon ask of his new officers “is he lucky”?
Never forget luck. Taylor is a very good coach. I very much hesitant to gripe about him getting transfers over what we did. But he was also lucky. He got Skattabo. How did we miss this guy in our own backyard? Answer: bad luck. We already had a full contingent of gifted RBs and the best one in the conference in UG. So Taylor got him. I think he was the catalyst for their success this year. And yes, I think he will take the OC at cal if offered. It will be a 1M offer with incentives. This is kitchen table time with the wife! She will decide. . . Luck can run out as we all know
  • Week 12: UC Davis (6-4) at Sac State (10-0)
If the Regents cancel the Big 10 deal with UCLA, which, I think is fairly accurate, cal will be in much better financial condition than now.
  • What Will It Take to Keep Pace with the Success of Sac State Now?
I agree with AF2. Hay, we lost a game to the number 2 school in the FCS by 6 points! We were in every game that we lost with the possible exception of MS we had a very tough schedule. So I see no need for panic or even heavy hand wringing. The program is in good shape IMHO.
