  • Non-US student athletes- no NCAA policy?
Well, Nevada men’s tennis just beat us. They have 7 out of 8 foreign players! This is just getting ridiculous. Is the NCAA even looking at this?

Fug, you can clearly see that the sac bee strongly endorses your “incorrect” scenario. Because of so-called “inadequate housing” on the Davis campus, they envision undergrads and new housing on the sac campus. The bee has absolutely zero interest in how this could benefit UC Davis and only wants it for what it will do for sac. Mayor Steinberg is a friend of UC Davis and Oak Park needs all the help it can get, but Chancellor May must watch out that he not bambozzled by sac people into some expensive projects that do not directly advance UC Davis’ educational goals.

I love this so much and am sending it to everyone I know who knew him.

72 I too was surprised by this choice. But I looked into it a bit and I think I know why this decision was made. BVV is a no brainer: sand pit/court/cheap, Big West Sport and a NCAA sport. Very inexpensive sport to fund and a lot of female athletes to tap into. Do we even need a new BVV coach? Don’t know.
Equestrian is more complicated. Is this a popular California sport? Very definitely Yes. I have a niece who went toBoise State and she is a very avid equestrian and ranking competitor. She has travelled to California for events very often- recently Woodside CA (I attended this one) is a very big lavish equestrian center next to Stanford and also Temecula CA also very high end SoCal venue. Next the Hollywood Charity Evetn in Burbank CA (William Shatner for you Star Trek fans Sponcers this event).
What most people do not know is that the host NCAA team MUST provide the horses for the visiting teams, so no shipping horses to Georgie for a meet. Yes, we have the horses in spades for this sport and the vet school has agreed to provide its services for free. But, probably what sealed the deal is that the parents and supportive ranchers and farmers all over the state agreed to chip in to support this additional sport. I mean, what is a more “Aggie Sport” than this? Again, bet Stanford ads this sport very soon. I bet this girls at the horse barn are besides themselves with glee!! Oh yes, a national championship will be expected in 5 years. . . .
  • Cal poly troubles
Sorry to follow, but in comparison UC Davis has 700+/- black undergrads in the 2016-17 time line.
  • WBB new recruits
I also believe their dad was a Harlem Globetroter. Gotta have those genes!
  • Go Aggies!
Sorrry to watch the aggie Stanford game tonite. Stanford announcers very dismissive of the Aggies and the players. Yes, were behind but they kept saying “OK, but don’t go to sleep. A very disrespectful sound to their play calling.
  • Practice field is going in...
Great job by the Cal Poly development team to get this done. Doerr was a fine football player at CP in the 60s and went on to become a successful tech giant in that industry. CP seems to achieve a lot more than we do when it comes to big donors for sports. I do not have any idea as to why. Good for them!
  • Go Aggies!
Yes. Looks like he’s doing pretty well. Amazing ability. Is he as good from both sides?
  • Go Aggies!
Just wondering. Do we still have that ambidextrous pitcher on the roster? What is his status?
  • New woman’s sport
If you want to see a compelling story about rowing watch PBS Special Men of 36 which is about a bunch of U of Washington depression kids at the 36 olympics. Against all odds they . . . . .
  • MBB: 2018 NIT Tournament
I believe that HIPPA rules will govern this. So no disclosure for now. So sad for Chima! Maybe we shouldn’t even care at this point except for the future of this great player and Aggie!!
  • WBB: 2018 WNIT Tournament
Great season and too bad to lose to the eventual champion. By comparative scores, we could have been very close if we played for the title against IU.
But on to another issue: next year. I know that MBB has a ton of redshirts coming on and one kid from Canada who can shoot. Thats all i know about MBB. I know nothing about WBB for next year except we lost Marley, Rachel, Pele and Dani and we had two redshirts on the bench this year. I do not know who we have recruited to replace all of them. I would like one of you smart guys with the time to line this all up for us: what should we expect next year from the new players? Who exactly are they?
  • No support from the sac bee for Aggie Woamns Basketball sweet 16
Probably my email to the sports editor p***ed him off and gave him the opportunity to say: “OK here’s your story- you lost.” Sometimes I should just repress my frustrations with the bee and as they say just “let it go”. . . . .
  • WBB: 2018 WNIT Tournament
Someone mentioned that the BW playoff format should be changed so that the highest seeds host the lower seeds. Much like the WNIT does. Seems like a good idea since many of the games are played to skimpy crowds at Honda. It definetly would help UC Davis and also all the other teams with better and more excited home crowds. But maybe the Honda is locked in for years to come?
  • WBB: 2018 WNIT Tournament
Hate to follow but here are some observations about todays game: this was a very difficult but winnable game for the Ags and i think it was lost due the decision to play the game in Indiana. First of all the teams played a common opponent- St Mary’s. Indiana lost to the Gaels 82 to 88 in Moraga last November. Ags dominated the Gaels 74 to 50 in Moraga in December. Perhaps more important is the fact that Indiana played its last 4 games at home and the Ags had to travel the last 3 games far, far away from home, i.e not a Big West away game. Planes, buses who knows now but the Ags had to be very leg worn out by today. And that always shows on defense which it did today. Hard to explain why the WNIT did not choose the Ags to host this game based on those factors and the fact that the Ags had a far better overall record. Anyway congratulations to Indiana and good luck!

I am having trouble unsubscribing to BTN+ can any one help me out a bit? If I don’t do it now i will surely totally forget about it.
  • Name your favorite Sac eatery / place
Many, many years ago Old Sac hosted a Train Fair and it was incredibly popular. I went and it was great! But I am a total rail fan. They should try to make that an annual event. UP brought its huge “Old 7777” to town and it huffed and puffed and steamed and chugged. My kids could not get enough of it!
Former SP also brought a complete passenger train down from Portland which went through Davis. Incredible sight going thru town to sac. Old sac needs something like this to reinvent itself.
  • WBB: 2018 WNIT Tournament
Yes, great run. No excuse but I don’t think that 9.5 hour bus rides helped. They could have flown but at $400 per person not feasible. I will sorely miss Marley, Rachel, Dani, & Pele as they are great players and persons. Glad to have Morgan and the Eatons back for one more seasons as well.
  • New woman’s sport
Equestrian is an NCAA sport with 19 programs active, including Fresno State. 15 scholarships allowed. Otherwise nearest teams are New Mexico State and many schools in TX, ie.e TCU, Baylor, Texas A&M etc. otherwise all are east coast schools. If we went with this sport good possibility that Stanford and Cal Poly would consider adding. Lord knows that Stanford has so much sports money they probably need a new sport to spend money on. I am sure that the vet school would provide free or greatly reduced vet care. Yes, travel is a concern but Fresno does it! So i think its still on the table for consideration. So maybe equestrian and beach volleyball??
