  • Hawkins Stepping Down per SacBee
If May wanted to move us to FBS he could do it. And yes the required attendance rule is gone. Minimum scholarship requirements is 210 at a minimum of 6 million in total. 5 million buy in. Literally peanuts for May. But where to go? Who would want us? Or better yet, who would not want us
? I doubt Fresno State is anxious for us to join their conference. Just adds more competition for their recruiting. Very sorry to see hawk leaving, bringing in Plough who is well known and liked by the teams players might prevent many downsides from his departure.
  • Lan Larison named Big Sky offensive player of the year
Also interesting is the physical/statistical comparison of LL and Mccaffery (i speak of mere numbers here and not talent or accomplishments which would of course be ridiculous). But they are almost mirror images of each other. LL is a couple inches taller, a few pounds heavier, etc. their 40 times very close at 4.55 CM and 4.56 LL. If that 4.49 by LL is legit, well who knows. Anyway, doesn’t mean a thing and is just an observation. Still hope LL. Comes back!

Yes he does have something to prove. Character. For instance, I don’t think the portal did Skattabo who was a great RB for Sac any good at all. Fairly good stats for a ASU Team that is going nowhere. But not really good. And he didn’t have to do that. And he abandoned his very good team. My thoughts are that he didn’t have a good agent or none at all. Plus, with the best NFL teams there is another metric in the draft: character. Maccaffery is an example of that. A truly good agent (his dad?) would advise LL to stay in the lane, graduate and be the leader of his team next season. But maybe I am just a true romantic. So sorry.

So December 4 is the first portal date for the winter? I think we all know who we do not want to see on that list! Fingers XXX!
  • Lan Larison named Big Sky offensive player of the year
Obviously the elephant in the room is whether LL or TT will portal. I actually doubt it in part because the Aggies were in my view spurned by the playoffs selection committee and the team is probably very pissed off about that and rightfully so. That would be a very good reason for staying on next season because it would acknowledge the tight bonds that this team has and be grateful and loyal to your teammates. If they stick together I believe that the team would be a lock to get back into the playoffs next season. IMHO fingers XXX
  • 2023-24 FCS Playoffs
Might be just hopeful thinking but could it be that these juniors come back to finally finish with a playoff spot or record season. I doubt LL or TT will portal. Plus we have some real talent coming next season. Am I whistling in the wind? Or thru the grave yard? Overall a good season for the Aggies.
  • 2023-24 FCS Playoffs
River why is next year a rebuilding year? We are a soph/junior team now. So I know there are holes to fill but the main guys are here next year. I realize LL is a question mark but I really don’t think he will leave. I’m interested in hearing more details.
  • 2023 WEEK 12: CAUSEWAY
Someone said Larison might get us in the playoffs and I agree. He is a great talent, a charismatic rodeo guy with ties to Idaho and a very good RB. I say UCD vs. Idaho in the first round. Will
Put some of that juice into a normally pretty boring early playoff game for the TV folks. But, my football predictions are far from being accurate I must say these days.
But very good game for the Aggies today. I think it was a very impressively coached game for us.
  • Come Back Coach Hawk
I think that UC Davis is a very tough school to recruit to mostly because of its reputation for being so academically strenuous. My daughter spent a year at sac city before transferring to UC Davis. Her counselor at sac city actually told her that davis was a very tough school as much so as Berkeley and to reconsider her decision. I realize we have the “special admits” thing going, but I have my doubts that we are using it efficiently. The academic senate has all along been very critical about its use. So, Insofar as the big sky is concerned, we are at a significant disadvantage recruiting against our conference foes and i don’t think Hawk is in any way to blame for it. On a positive note, it does seem we are now getting more 3 star guys now. Have no idea why.
  • 2023 Week 10: UC Davis vs. Portland State
Could someone post the replay as I was unable to watch the game?
  • 2023 Week 9: UC Davis @ Northern Arizona
Need something soon or forget the season. Hate to get down on the Hawk because I love him, but I cringed when he said this was the best Aggies team he has coached when that was totally unknown. And the thing opposing teams will tack on the board. Sad week for the Hawkins family but they are true veterans on this very difficult line of work. Love them to death……
  • 2023 Week 9: UC Davis @ Northern Arizona
Hawkins has to be thinking of someone else at QB at this point. After all the offense starts with the QB and he has been way off the last few games. I think maybe he has lost his confidence or our opponents have figured him out. Looks like he is stepping in wet cement in the backfield on passing plays. IMHO the new OC has bear some responsibility for the bad offensive performance of late.
  • 2023 Week 9: UC Davis @ Northern Arizona
I don’t think any team be it FBS FCS, or NFL now posts it’s starting line up much less it’s injury report or it’s “starting line up”. Or depth chart. Why give up this information just for the media?
  • 2023 Week 6: Montana (4-1) @ UC Davis (3-2)
Shoulder issue. Ice and tape it up for the game. I love this guy and have always.
  • GOLDEN HORSESHOE 2023 Week 5: UC Davis (2-2) @ Cal Poly (2-2)
I think LL is out for some time. We have other injuries as well. We can deal with that as all teams do. Our backup RBs did very well against a weak defense but they played well. My hope is that TT is OK. He really is the main running game threat we have. By my observations I think he suffered an upper extremity injury which is much less debilitating than LLs knee issues. TT is a very tough player and i would give it 50-50 that he will play next week.
  • GOLDEN HORSESHOE 2023 Week 5: UC Davis (2-2) @ Cal Poly (2-2)
Maybe bringing in Marsharoni is a good idea at WR. They probably want to RS him, but hey, when in need adapt. Big size is what we need.
  • GOLDEN HORSESHOE 2023 Week 5: UC Davis (2-2) @ Cal Poly (2-2)
Someone once said that these kinds of games are coaches games because both teams are either beat up physically or demoralized emotionally Let’s see who comes out of this situation first. Ags by 1. I love both of these teams a lot.
  • 2023 Week 4: Eastern Washington (1-2) @ UC Davis (2-1)
I semi disagree with most of the above comments. But some points are probably worth looking into. I don’t think that Larison was over used in this game. He was having a career game and he deserved to stay in the game. He was never going to ask for a rest under those circumstances. In terms of the RB depth situation who could have predicted we would lose our two best RBs in the first four games of the season? We do have backups who can carry the ball. Our new OC is somewhat conservative with the passing game which is very consistent with our once powerful running game. Why call for a risky pass play when you have a Larison who can pick up 7 yard a carry. Now I agree things have to change and now we get to see if we have a coaching staff who can deal with this adversity. And adjust. I know Hawk is sitting with his coaches and working out a new plan right now. All this is just part of the game of football and I am optimistic that the Ags will come back next week. And maybe get Tompkins a little more involved in every aspect of the game.
  • 2023 Week 4: Eastern Washington (1-2) @ UC Davis (2-1)
Move Tompkins to RB? Just a little idea to think about.
