  • Coach Les Expresses His Frustration with His Team
Ham was the greatest. But to be true, he never had the pressure that Les has now. What I cant figure out is why with basically his entire team back this year the record is so poor. Injuries? Maybe Jim Sochor could arrive at Les’s home on Christmas eve as the “Ghost of Christmas past” and teach him some of the basic principals of Buddhist thought. “Suffering is enitvitable” and “do no harm to other living things” That would be the players. He should also be “Strong as a Mountain” (or big tree) and not be “too self involved” or “too prideful”. It just might not be the players IMHO.
  • Coach Les Expresses His Frustration with His Team
Speaking of Ham, I recall one game where he got so frustrated with his [players that he threw down his towel, yelled to the players “OK, coach yourselves” and went up into the bleachers. Actually, the teamed played OK without a coach. Yes. Coach Les needs to calm down a bit to say the least.
  • Beach Volleyball Facility
I love this project. I know that Toomey’s stands have been removed. But I also know that the longest home run ever hit in Aggie history or in the FWC was hit over this field by Sam Viney in 1971 and I don’t think it has been recorded on the ground there. I was there, it was a ball hit so hard it went for at least 500 ft from a point that is now the parking structure’s northeast corner to a point that is now the eastern most end of the Toomey track. Oregon center fielder never even turned around. It was gone. Willy Mac would have loved it! We should enshrine such great events with some permanent marker IMHO.
  • UOP drops field hockey
Very good question: 2009. So I was dead wrong to place this on AD Blue. I do not recall who was AD then. Otherwise, still an interesting decision.

Adopting FH over say rowing might have been Dr. Blues first real stumble as AD. It’s hard to say not knowing if there was any evidence out there to indicate Pacific was cutting that sport. But going with any sport that is so very uncommon in the West is, to say the least, going to be problematical. Someone did mention that FH was made financially feasible due to some big bucks from a athlete parent. So maybe thats the reason we got FH. Still wonder why not rowing? We had a very successful program before it was cut.

We’ve had some very good “smallish” QBs in the past. A kid by the name of Peterson comes to mind. Not the biggest guy physically, but had great vision and mobility, not to mention knowledge of the game which has served him well since playing. Been said his play in defeating Pacific a few decades ago was a big factor in them dropping football.
  • WBB Signs High Scoring 6'5 Center
This is a big get by Jen. Lilly is a true 6’5” 215 lb. athletic post who is rewriting record books in OC which is a tough place to play HS WBB. Just scored 57 last week! Averages 30.1 pg. I love Morgan, but I do not think she came close to those kinds of numbers in HS. I don’t think Aggie WBB has ever had this high a level of raw athleticism. At least in my memory. Maybe an historic addition to the program. Needs some great coaching to reach her potential, but we have the coach who can do the job in Jen Gross. Great news for Aggie WBB! I just wish she had a year to watch Morgan do her stuff.
  • New MBB Recruit from Sweden
Guinness! Must be part Irish. One of my favorites.

    05. This is not related to political banter. This is speciafcally related to Montana fans racial behavior towards the Ags during a recent football game. I do believe that is part of UC Davis athletics. I will defer and comment further on the OT Board.
  • Looking Forward to 2019
Agalum, you do not get off free with that statement. I was defending Montana citizens against the earlier put question as to whether they were “racist.” To which I did state that they were not racist (citing recent evidence). I was defending Montana fans, who are from a very red state, from that racist accusation. I do not know where the earlier poster got the idea Montana fans were possibly, or indeed were racist; I believe some racial taunting during our game with them was the reason. Racial taunting is a disgraceful by any football fan. My post was in no way a “political post” or reference. If you just object to the term “red state” just say so. If you don’t like me to mention Jon Tester, just say so. Otherwise say nothing. You politicized the post with your very vague “nonsense” comment.
  • Looking Forward to 2019
Don’t want to respond but have to. . . No I don’t think Montana is generally racist. It is a red state, but it reelected a Democrat Tester over a red meat Trump Republican who actually was accused of outright racism especially against the Native American tribes in Montana. I think the Montana fans were just outraged a t losing and threw out a few stupid yells that they now no doubt regret. In my experiance Montana people are great, somewhat conservative to CA views, but still very, very likeable people. That said I am a..... ........... just an Aggie.
  • Looking Forward to 2019
Great point movie. I think that the announcement of the new Performance Center will significantly aid recruiting for next season. It signifies a sizable and tangible investment in the football program and eliminates one of the strongest arguments our opponents have used against us in past recruiting: poor training facilities. But, it will just add a new incentive. Maybe more important over the last 2-3 years and continuing in decending order are IMHO:
    1. Coach Hawk
    2. 2018 FCS Playoff appearance
    3. Chancellor May
    4. AD Blue
  • UOP drops field hockey
Pacifics press release was also very vague. I cannot find any AEC press release that supports this decision; rather Pacific later adds that this was part of a $1 million cut in athletics in general. Does anyone actually believe that Stanford or Cal, not to mention UC Davis will just take this AEC “decision” without objection? Alumni and parents in these small sports (espeically women’s) (FH, beach volleyball, rowing, wrestling, fencing, equestrian, men’s baseball (Cal) are extremely devoted to their offsprings athletic endeavors) will vigorously fight this. Rumor has it that the wealthy UC Davis parent that basically funded the FH program and built the new FH field is a politically connected guy. I doubt that he will let his daughters program go down the tubes due to Pacific budget cuts without a big fight.
  • UOP drops field hockey
FH is a fairly large roster sport, so if you cut that sport TIX comes into play. So would expect 1 or more men’s sports soon to go as well. It’s been known for a long time Pacific is hurting financially. Academically they cannot compete with the UCs and a kid that cant get into say Sac or Chico can get into Pacific easily. Their law school (in Sac) is bleeding red ink all over the place and has drastically cut back its funding. Ditto dental school in SF. Very hard to recruit good faculty to those types of schools.
  • How long do Coach Hawk and Coach Plough stay?
I think Hawk stays to retirement. Sure, higher paying jobs are out there, but he got a pretty big payoff out of Colorado when he left there. He hopefully invested it well.
Plough will be sought after, but he needs a few more seasons with a winning program too maximize his potential.
I actually think our AD, Dr. Blue is the most likely to be hired away. He operates one of the biggest DI ICA operations in the West. He has started new programs from scratch and gotten alumni finds to do so. He is smart, engaging, handsome and has proven himself a winner by virtue of the success of his many sports teams.
The next most possible is, IMHO, Jen Gross. If I’m not mistaken, she is the most successful coach currently in our ICA program- plus, a great and very respected coach and person. She is definitely PAC 12 material.
But as has been said, any offer to anyone of these individuals would have to be from Top Notch schools or they ain’t leaving Davis anytime soon.
  • FCS Playoffs Quarterfinals: UC Davis @ Eastern Washington v2.0
If we wear our all whites, we will be invisible! Like the white horse in the background.
  • 2019 Recruiting List
I say don’t rush him. His record is very impressive, but the move from HS to DI football is a big leap for any Athlete not to mention the academic stress of UC Davis. RS him next year and then let him go against our current guys next in line; which are actually very impressive themselves. I only saw a bit of the Hunter kid- wow! He’s a great one too.
  • FCS Playoffs Round 2: UNI @ UC Davis
I hope! We did survive the demise of Mr. Bs, AJ Bumps, Blakes, and others, but the Grad is a special place in the memories of so many. I hope they find a way to stay.
