  • San Jose game out?
"UCD funds their athletic programs primarily through alumni donations" - incorrect. UC Davis is unique in that over half of the Athletics budget is derived from student fees. If the Sac Bee is to be trusted, only ~3.5% of funding comes from contributions

James Amos and John Faletoese. They made up one hell of a unit together 2005-07.

My, this is another big class. There's gonna be a ton of competition. I love it.

I think a lot of the TEs are recruited for athleticism & size. Don't be surprised to see conversions to OL/DL.
  • Ticket prices
Suppose there will be some vacant seats in 107 :(
  • UC Davis to play USC 2021
I'm sure we have two former Aggies to thank for this one: running back Alex Garfio (USC Assistant AD) and wide receiver Jeff Fucci (USC Associate AD). Davis guys through and through, and they played with Plough + Keane in the era when Josh Flushman was running football ops.
  • Keelan Doss to play in the East-West Shrine Game
49ers QB coach Rich Scangarello has deep Davis ties (assistant under Biggs) and brought Plough to NAU. Hope he's coaching Keelan's side.

your work on this thread is incredible... but one request. Could you add commitment dates on the first page?
  • FCS Playoffs Quarterfinals: UC Davis @ Eastern Washington v2.0
it seemed like they were rotating in some of the redshirts on defense (noticed a #6 pass rushing, #69 playing nose). Given the new redshirt rules allowing them to play 4 games, I was pleased to see them mix those guys in for some fresh depth... and killer experience.
  • Aggie Stadium
I'm far less concerned with seating expansion, until we're consistently bursting at the seams of Aggie Stadium. I'd imagine that in a bind (dare I say playoffs?!) we could import temporary bleachers a la The Toom's endzones?

Instead, I'd focus Aggie Stadium v2 on things that will wow recruits and streamline operations:
    • Expanding/modernizing weight training facilities.
    • Expanding/modernizing athletic training & physical therapy HQ (now decentralized across Pavilion, Hickey & Stadium, with varying hours & services)
    • Building facilities to centralize football day-to-day @ Aggie Stadium. The current state: practice (Stadium & Howard Field), coaches offices (Hickey), team meeting rooms (empty classrooms on campus, by position group), weight room (near Toomey), athletic training (above)
    • Training table (cafeteria for athletes)
    • Tutoring & study facilities
    • Team-building/game room
    • Equipment room built to flaunt all that sweet sweet Adidas gear
  • 2017 Recruiting
In the late Biggs D-1AA era, "preferred walk-ons" came in for Fall camp or just after Fall camp, as SloStang mentioned. They got Athletic Dept assistance with admissions/financial aid/class schedules and were treated like regular players in every way. Many earned scholarships and are names you'd recognize.

There were also 10-15 tryout players that enrolled as regular students in Fall (without any team association), joined workouts in Winter, and tried out for the duration of Spring Ball. Typically, 1-2 made the team (mostly special teams/backups, but at least 1 starter that I can think of). It was a tough road for these guys - they were strangers in a tight-knit position group, didn't know the drills, started behind on the scheme/calls, didn't get much real consideration from the coaches, and fell last in line for playing time to show their stuff.

Damn with this many freshmen, the scout team is gonna have it easy!
  • EWU HC leaves for Cal OC position
Cal speculation that Gould & Toler are slotted for assistant positions. Hope Burl don't bounce.
  • Assistants
Cal Poly has a wide-open passing offense?
  • Assistants
Palma (Salinas) & Arroyo Grande are both hugely successful CA high school programs that run the Fly. Remarkable as neither program has tons of raw athletic talent, but due to scheme they punch above their weight and win CIF championships in tough NorCal & SoCal divisions.

Davis historically won because our super-complex schemes confounded athletically superior opponents. This is a different brand of complex scheme, but if we can mix aspects of the Fly to bring us an advantage, let's go.
