I too want sac state to succeed but I want them to succeed academically first. They are currently around 16th out of the 23 CSUs, which is surprisingly low and they should at least be around 5th-6th. I want them to invest in their campus and students and then athletics rather than other way around. Truthfully I think sac would do better focusing on their non football sports in the Big West and invest there.

I agree we are moving in right direction which is why I felt we should have at least filled in one of the endzones with seats to increase seated capacity to 13k at least plus the new suites/premium seats in phase 1 of Aggie ascent.

agree. I think we have a good chance for any 2nd round team except for those 3.

yeah in state applicants isn’t our (or any UC) issue. But they still want a decent percentage of good out of state students too, who would bring additional revenue due to higher fees, plus more brand recognition can bring in more sponsorships and sometimes bring in more research money.

I thought the arena would be first too but I think since they are also building/adding a whole new training/practice facility connected to arena for gymnastics/volleyball/basketball that they wouldn’t have the funds for that for another 2-3 years and that they would likely do both projects/arena/training facility at same time. So having that as phase 2 of Aggie ascent makes sense.

they mentioned that the whole ascent project will be completed in 8 years and that the football suites/event space, track&field enhancements, and golf are phase one of that. So I would assume that will start in late 2026 and be completed by 2028.

I agree. I don’t think anyone in their right mind would build 30k+ now in CA unless you are sac state who still are pushing for eventual build of 40k. I think a full build out here should be 22k-25k Max. But agree that 20-22k with more premium seats seems more realistic

100% agree we could have built a state of the art 45k stadium within 8 months at the fair grounds. lol. Jk.

I know there isn’t a capacity requirement for FBS per se, but it is kind of an unspoken requirement by the conferences to be at least around 25k now, I was hoping to at least do a cheaper addition at least initially to one end zone to increase seated capacity to 12-15k for now (and add 2nd deck to student side later). I agree with adding premium seats as being our priority and love the plans, just wish we had 2 levels of suites so that we can have 10-12 suites at least. But I agree that this is great and the other sports are beyond what I expected for these plans.
My only other wish is that we did a little something for equestrian sports and supported/promoted it a little more since we are an Ag/Vet school.

Love the additions/plans for everything especially for the non football sports. snake oil salesman always seem likeable too. Look at his resume, it’s full of nothing. Fake accomplishments and fake organizations he started. He seems to just leech onto projects and siphons off money. I wouldnt be surprised that he (his sports company) would profit from the sac state cal expo project somehow. There is even a video about how shady he is on YouTube. But again who knows. Maybe he will finally do something productive.
He does seem to follow his brother (dr wood) timeline on things like building a stadium or arena in less than a year. lol. And use the same stadium/arena rendering company for their projects.

I can see them adding a larger 2nd deck with ~7,500 seats to visitor side, small second level ( high end luxury 1,500-2k seats)+ 2 rows of luxury boxes/suites/maybe a restaurant/etc to home side, and then later/last fill in north end zone berm (~2.5k seats), and leave the south end zone as grass (perhaps add an elevated patio zone/seating behind it). This will have it be somewhat symmetrical in size and around 25k and would be one of the nicer G6 stadiums in FBS.
My wish would be to at least add some sort of shade structure/roof to the sides but that is likely out of the budget.

I agree that FBS name recognition may increase the value of a degree at sac state slightly, but you know what would do it even more? Elevating their academics. Sac is a decent school but is consistently ranked in bottom 3rd among CSUs (I was surprised how high all the So Cal CSUs were ranked). I know they will likely never surpass schools like cal poly, SDSU, SJSU, but sac should be in the 2nd tier at least. That is what dr wood should focus on. Elevating academics and making sac not a commuter school.

He also now changed this wording to “being FBS next year”to “playing a FBS schedule next year”.
Dr. Wood just rubs me the wrong way. He does not act professionally which a school president/chancellor should and he does not represent the school well.

He wore the cowboy hat the beginning of the game and took it off in middle of 2nd qr about the time they started to improve. Maybe the hat is bad luck.
