I think it is best that all teams above the Ags (except Montana state) lose. Montana State has a lock and are clearly the best big Sky team. If Sac had won, then even a Aggie perfect run including a win over Sac would have Sac In the playoffs. They have a win over a power 5 team and would have had a win over a top-ranked team in Montana State.

There has been a major difference (yards allowed vs yards produced) in kickoff and punt returns this year. Larison did kick off returns last year and Isaiah Thomas did punt returns if memory serves me right. Both did well at those. I am not saying use Larison in either capacity due to work load/potential injury but other teams seem to have threats that the Aggies don’t have. I will also guess if you run the stats on kickoff returns that returned kickoffs yield an average less than 25 yards which is to say it’s not a bad idea to simply fair catch unless the kick is very short. No fumble possibility on return either.

After watching the game …. It reminded me of a big 10 game sort of like the iowa - Wisconsin game. It was a bit weird - seemed liked the coaches wanted to play very conservatively and lean on the defense. They seemed to have completely abandoned a quick pace offense that keeps the defense off balance and from substituting. That used to be an Aggie standard mode.

It’s almost like the coaches play/plan based on the opponent (play up/play down) as others have mentioned how opened- up the offense was against Montana. Weber offense is simply bad. This is not to derate the Aggie defense which was quite good. The Ags really need Larison back and to change up offensive schemes to open up things more.

I do have to say after watching Idaho state that the strategy against them may be to take the air out of the ball. Eastern Washington failed in trying to outscore them. Eastern has a poor rushing offense so had no other choice.

I don’t know that he was much maligned ….. at least I thought he did a good job. Looking better in retrospect.

Good for Stanford and Taylor. I will be at the SC - Notre Dame game in South Bend tonight. Hopefully will be able to check in on the Weber game.

I was a Babb fan after seeing him in 2019 and had expected him to be involved more. I think his taking a year off hurt him - sort of like you don’t get promoted when you’re not at the office. Just conjecture and personally I would have not taken that as a factor on its own - but I think many coaches would.

Our comments were just observations not criticism. I think he was quicker when he was lighter.

Babb may not be as fast as he was as a freshman, he looks a little heavier.

Exactly what I thought. I got very excited when Babb made his reception and thought he was going to take it to the house. He ran out of gas - he does look thicker than as a freshman, which is likely to happen but he seems to have lost a step. I do think he deserve some more playing time - especially if he blocks for others (still can’t believe no attempt to block on the swing pass to Fisher by we all know who). BTW Fisher can only play in one more game if redshirt is to be preserved. Re: running backs.

UG was very durable and with his multiple talents I would have kept him in as much as possible just as Hawk/Cody did. Same with LL other than breathers. These are superior game - changing backs. Tehran Thomas got quite a few carries and deservedly so.

Unless you have second and third string backs that are very close in talent or bring a speciality to the table - like a big bruiser at the goal line or short-yardage - I don’t think it makes a lot of sense to do a lot of rotation. One exception would be to keep guys leaving to the portal, but Davis is not that type of program. But of course injuries do bring opportunities to others.

I think the Aggies need to play with a bit more fire - Larison had that - and Montana had it more than the Aggies last Saturday. A good start - as opposed to EWU, SUU, and Montana would be a big help towards posting wins.

#4 absolutely whiffing on his block on 3rd down pass to Fisher forcing Davis to punt on the last drive will prove to be a huge play./
I re-watched that play and #4 (not mentioning name to protect the guilty) lack of block was unbelievable. If I were the ends coach, I’d have a discussion about lack of effort on that. It looked like he didn’t even try. Simpson aggressively went after his man, but #4 looked like he didn’t want to get his uniform dirty. If you are unwilling to block for a teammate, you shouldn’t be out there.

Weber continues to be very unimpressive with a 27-10 loss at home to NAU. They really have no offense.
  • 2023 Week 6: Montana (4-1) @ UC Davis (3-2)
they brought in Leon-Guerrero and he didn’t do much. I really don’t think anyone other than Larison was going to have much of an impact. I don’t think Chukwodobe is going to get many carries- coaches are going with others, and I understand going with fisher due to his future potential and developing him. Unless you had a Larison busting. TD run today - it wasn’t going to be a game that would be decided by the run game. In any event I do think they had too many rushing attempts.
  • 2023 Week 6: Montana (4-1) @ UC Davis (3-2)
Kick coverage and not being able to get off the field on 3rd and long hurt.
  • 2023 Week 6: Montana (4-1) @ UC Davis (3-2)
well for perspective - Aggies started 1-4 last year. However, they went on a 5 game league win streak and of course lost to Sac State to miss playoffs. They have put themselves in a real bind now and will have to clean things up. They probably need to win out to make playoffs.

Kraft still hurt I am sure. Chukwudobe was in there. Saw him in to block on the Hutton TD run.
  • 2023 Week 6: Montana (4-1) @ UC Davis (3-2)
yah - and crump was doing a first down celebration thing prior - just give the ball to the ref and get back to the huddle.
  • 2023 Week 6: Montana (4-1) @ UC Davis (3-2)
It comes down to execution and being plus in turnovers.
  • 2023 Week 6: Montana (4-1) @ UC Davis (3-2)
yah - that’s where two hands on the ball is a must.
  • 2023 Week 6: Montana (4-1) @ UC Davis (3-2)
This really sucks but as much as I hate to say it - Montana really deserved to win this game.
