Well if the backup could have prevented the blocked punt to the house and 2 successive penalties (holding and illegal shift) that took away touchdowns, then I might give your statement a small possibility. You don’t swap quarterbacks mid-stream or mid-season without a sound reason. Look at Montana last year with their QB rotation and how going with one is turning out for them this year. Pinnick is the guy and is the reason we have won some games we might have not otherwise. Yes, he will get better a getting rid of the ball more quickly. I for one was not a fan of Hastings when he was first inserted but he developed through repetition and through necessity got real good at getting the ball out. I turned into one of his biggest fans. Lesson is don’t play musical chairs with the QB as repetition makes QBs better and with Pinnick the Aggies already have an excellent QB who will only get better.

wood looked much better in the first half than the second half at NAU. His accuracy in the second half was very poor - I think in part due to pressure from the NAU pass rush. I think the key with Wood is to not let him beat you with his legs - his completion percentage is 59% compared to Pinnick’s 70%. Not terrible but I think he’s inconsistent.

I watched the game - well the second half the next morning due to being on the east coast - and my immediate thought about the game is that NAU went way too conservative on their last drive when they could have iced the game with a first down. Three runs and out after having moved the ball with short passing game mixed in.

strength of schedule is disparate. Thing is Idaho State could beat Lehigh and Tennessee Tech and it wouldn’t be a big surprise. Good coaching and weapons when clicking - really should have beat Montana too. Just the vagaries of college football. I was worried About the Idaho State game weeks in advance after watching them earlier.

Caden just had an awful game

If 23 for 32 for 325 yards with a TD (yes 2 ints.) Is a horrible game then that is quite a standard to beat. Watching the game, he surely didn’t appear hurt at all and I thought he made some nice throws. The game was lost with poor special teams play and very inopporune penalties. No other QB on the Rostor would have changed the outcome. Changing QBs would exacerbate any perceived and real issues.

Defense and special teams travel - and are huge when offense sputters. With all the injuries on the defensive side, cannot make mistakes or turnovers.

This reminded me of the 2018 game when the Idaho State kicker missed a gimme field goal to lose the game in Davis. I just knew the Frank Sinatra guy would make it.

2 touchdowns called back due to penalty on that one drive and blocked punt for TD. Just too many penalties.

Hope Vargas is ok. Gonna need as many players as possible to win another game or two.
