  • Week 4: Idaho @ UC Davis
Michigan marching band has always been excellent. Fun to watch and listen to Ohio State too with their high-stepping. Don’t know if Ohio State is still all brass. I’d also like to see a game in Madison. Midwest bands and football seem to have the best/longest traditions.

I’d really like to see a game in Missoula some day. A colleague of mine said a friend of his said it was the beast atmosphere he had seen even over big ACC or other big-time venues. I don’t doubt the questionable sportsmanship you saw. I have never liked Hauck and I think he was at the helm with all of those issues and coverups they have had in the past (they were the 1AA equivalent to Tennessee).

This is probably the best chance for the Ags to pull out a win in Missoula . They came close with Denham and company as I recall.

Way back in the day we (Banduh) went to All away games both football and basketball but of course most all games were in CA and many in NorCal. Of course that was the late 70’s. We did not play Montana then.
  • Week 4: Big Sky
If my accounting is correct, NAU, Weber, SUU, and Montana State All have different starting QBs now than in week 1 whether due to injury or other reason.

I would say EWU is the favorite now with Ags right in there. I think Weber is a bit over-rated. SUU is a pretty dang good team without a win yet. I think any big sky team could still beat any other save for Cal Poly, Portland and maybe Northern Colorado. EWU game was a beat-down. You know things are bad for Poly when the highlights consist of 3 plays, each with 3 re-plays to create any footage. I do not think Idaho looked very good. Man was their big QB slow. Game was pretty much decided by end of first quarter. I really see much more overall team speed this year from Ags, and so many offensive weapons that it will make it tough on their big sky competition.
  • Week 4: Big Sky
Big win for ISU and big sky over UND after UND beat Sam Houston last week.
  • Week 4: Idaho @ UC Davis
I’d love to hear a succinct Herm Edwards response to this tome. Maybe something like “You play the game to win!” Rinse and repeat.
  • Week 3: Big Sky
yah, Montana State lost their QB too. But, I don’t think Cookus is quite the QB that he was projected to be. Getting thwacked by Mo. State that badly is problematic even without first string QB. Will be interesting to see how things play out - this is the big sky and anything could happen. In my mind the Ags are clearly the most improved team this year.
  • Week 3: Big Sky
Southern Utah offensive line is very good. So. Utah did relatively well against Arizona, but the big difference was the advantage in team speed that Arizona had that So. Utah defense was unable to contain. So. Utah is a pretty decent 0-3 team - I think they are better than Weber- time will tell. Eastern Washington’s offense showed well agains Wassu but had same problem on D as So. Utah. NAU hasn’t recovered since playoff shellacking by USD (UTEP is bad) so I don’t see them having any playoff potential this year.
  • Week 4: Idaho @ UC Davis
Any news on Harrel? And I don’t recall seeing Vaughn after first quarter at Stanford. I remember him dropping a pass, and then don’t recall anything. He made some big plays against USD.
  • Week 3: Big Sky
Real shocker to me was Weber over South Dakota. Sounds like USD had some early guffaws. I know Utah has a pretty good defense, but watching the Weber-Utah game Weber looked pretty bad. Something like 67 yards total offense for the entire game. I think Weber has switched QBs. It was pretty obvious they missed cantwell from last year.

Dr. Mille. Watched this last night 60 minute version on PAC-12 network last night after returning from west coast. The score is not indicative of the game. It was 45-9 until a couple late scores by ISU. Unlike UCD Stanford in which both sides played subs at the same time, Kal put in their scrubs early and ISU went with first stringers to the end. Two late scores. QB Gueller passes almost exclusively to his wideout brother. His bro is good but if you stop that, there goes there passing game. ISU also suffered from poor tackling. Cal was rotating a couple QB’s.
  • Week 3: UC Davis @ Stanford

Agree with Dr. Mike’s assessment. Maier wasn’t as bad as some folks are saying here IMO. There was pressure that disrupted his passing lanes (Could actually tell he was trying to redirect passes to account for that at times) and Stanford coverage was tight for the most part. I think not having Harrell hurt - another opportunity to stretch the field. Aggies also dropped some balls (inexcusable), and there was at least 1 miscommunication route with Preece (sp?).

Punting game was awful - except the Howitzer toward the end that outkicked coverage. The wind looked stiff at the top of the stadium, but hard to tell what it was like on the field - I got the impression that Whelan was struggling with his drop.

I thought defense was stellar. Not much help from O. What I really noticed was the tackling - very few missed. A BIG change from past years. They were not “overmatched” like might be expected.

I thought Rodriguez was a pleasant surprise. I didn’t even recognize the name and thought the other guy from the USD game would be in. One bad misread (maybe partly a receiver thing too) for the interception, but he seemed otherwise accurate with a nice tight spiral. He really threw a nice ball for the TD.

I don’t think Stanford looked very good. Costello looked pretty bad at times. They are going too need a resurgent Love and some improvement to battle for PAC-12 crown although I would say PAC-12 is down this year. USC looked awful against Texas.
  • Week 3: UC Davis @ Stanford

I like bringing back the old school CA. I think it is more unique. I’ll have my old baseball CA cap on in Palo Alto Saturday. Left the wife and daughter in Raleigh to deal with the hurricane. Felt sort of bad, but now only tropical storm there at best. Enjoying the low humidity here in No. Cal.
  • Week 2: San Diego @ UC Davis

Didn’t Standord beat Navy the week prior to losing to UCD in 2005?
  • Week 2: San Diego @ UC Davis
    Excellent defense first half
  • Week 2: Big Sky
UND played tough for 3 quarters then UDub rolled. Ketteringham (ex-Sac State) looked awful for UND. Made poor decisions.

Case Cookus injured for No. AZ. SDSU handling MSU.
  • Week 2: Big Sky
Anybody want to come out of retirement and kick for UND?
  • Week 2: Big Sky
UNC coming back. Just scored TD. Down by 6 with PAT.
  • Week 2: Big Sky
    USD 34 UNC 14
Penalties killing UNC who has moved the ball well. USD QB is quite impressive
  • Week 2: Big Sky
Portland state punter is going to have to ice down his leg tonight.

PAC-12 network show on Best pac-12 coaches at each school selected Bellotti at Oregon. And yes Virginia, Pop Warner at Stanford, not Bill Walsh.
  • Week 2: Big Sky
The Dakota games will be interesting. Will give an indication of where no. Colorado, Montana State and Big sky in general stands against a couple of very good teams.
