  • FCS School (Jacksonville) to drop football
Makes sense. I know Jacksonville was crappy this year even by Pioneer league standards. The blue hose of Presbyterian have been foundering for years in Southern Conference so essentially a dropping down for them.

Southern and NEC weak sister conference out of the picture after week 1. Both Southern conference teams lost. Still believe big sky is strongest league overall.
  • 2020 Recruiting List
I saw that in a reply too. Then the coach goes on to say that “we are not that team and the player is not that kind of player” - well to keep in present tense I would say evidently you are. How about saying “we will correct this” and then do it.
  • Other games
San Diego’s D played admirably, and UNI mistakes were plentiful (many dropped passes) but they could absolutely not move the ball on UNI. UNI much bigger and faster. I sure UNI thought they were going to win much more easily than they did.

Sac is going to have its hands full with AP. Their cheer is “let’s go Peay”

Seriously, I watched some of the game and they manhandled Furman.
  • Cal Poly’s Tim Walsh retires
if I were a Poly fan (and obviously I am not) I would want the new HC to move away from the TO. Dive the left, keep to the right, stand up, sit down, fight -fight-fight gets real old to watch and I don’t think potential recruits are going to want to be in a system like that - certainly receivers, QBs, and skill position types. Most teams that run TO are service academies and the line who cannot recruit the top talent and rely on executing an offense most others teams see only once a year. It will be interesting to see who they hire and what kind of offense they intend to run.

I remember that game. I think we had a Maverick band there. Moroski was masterful. As I recall that is when Brian Buckley really bulked up at linebacker. Helped with his fastball on the baseball team.

Big Sky has the strongest teams as a collective. Illinois State of MVFC started tanking the last third of their season and lost to a declining Youngstown State team and scored only 3 points. They will be dispatched early. SDSU down from last year and lost to South Dakota last game. Their fate will depend on return (or not) of their QB Jabore Gibbs.

your right - now that I think about it Brown was terrible at hoops. Your smack is well placed. Don’t know about Riley’s whereabouts. He had a really good over the top curve ball.

To be honest haven’t followed baseball at UCD since I left. Shows the strong bond the band-uh had with the football team back them. That’s really where my loyalty to Aggie football stems from.

Santa Clara was D2. They had some good years (I remember them beating UOP with Dan Pastorini at a high school band day) but they weren’t the caliber of competition as now. UOP wins were good, but again even though UOP was D1, they weren’t substantially superior athletically.

Didn’t watch much of the game but looking at stats Sac had a bunch of rushing yards and the Ags very little.

As for the season, I would say that every team the Aggies lost to was better except for North Dakota. I think things would have been different with a healthy Tehran Thomas and Crawford. It seems like the last half of the season, other than Portland State, receivers just did not get a lot of separation. Thomas would have added another dimension and let Gilliam rest a bit - Gilliam is very, very good but can’t be expected to carry the team all the time.

I actually thought defense played fairly well especially these last few games. Can’t win if you can’t score.
  • Week 13 games
    31-7 MSU.
  • Week 13 games
24-0 Montana State over Montana. Would like to be in the locker room at halftime to hear Bobby Hauck

    40-14 late in game
  • Week 13 games
Jacksonville, a 3-8 team is giving SAn Diego a game 30-28,USD. San Diego can’t contain Jacksonville’s running QB.
  • Bad press for the Band-Uh!
whatever they call them it is still the Cal Aggie Band-uh to me. Regarding administrators-it is genuflecting to PC gods as with most Universities these days. “Safe places” over competency.

I think Mo started 2 years. Jim Speck started in 76. Mo started in 77 and 78. Pretty sure about that as I was at UCD then.
  • Mike Moroski Leads College of Idaho to 1st Championship Since 1955
Howard, I was on the baseball team with those guys. Brown and Moroski were excellent pitchers. I rode the bench mostly. When it rained we played basketball - lot of good hoopsters. Kevin Hildebrand asked me how I could be so graceful on the basketball court and not so much on the mound (ouch).
  • Week 12: Montana State @ UC Davis
funny how perspective is. After the NDSU game their fans were all over their coaches saying how much they got out-coached by UC Davis. Just think what Poly has to deal with with Tim Walsh - guess he is untouchable.
  • Week 12: Montana State @ UC Davis
So was Plough terrible last year too? I think it is too simple to blame the coaches. What was “interesting” this year is that there were visions of last year with marching down the field effortlessly with tempo, but just too many instances of not. Deep balls were not as plentiful, but I think pass protection (and opposition this year) had a part to play. Also the merry-go-round of receivers due to injuries. Last year Meier had an amazing relationShip with Doss and relied heavily on him. This year it was Crawford initially then he got injured at UND. I believe if Crawford has not been injured the Ags would have won that game.

So maybe coaching adjustments were lacking this year. Thomas out virtually all year hurt too. For all of the static about Maier-he is going to be very hard to replace.
