  • Week 4: UC Davis @ Weber State
Saw that near pick too. And if the pass had got past the lineman, a defender had a bead for a pick. Hastings played well off the bench, but I don’t think there was any way HR would have been yanked if not hurt. HR is definitely a better scrambler ( with acknowledged risk of injury) and I think is a nimbler handler of ball in the current offensive scheme. Would have to slightly adjust offense for Hastings. HR did throw a few errant passes but Weber coverage was good and there were not many open opportunities. Interesting how a maybe sub par game leads to a QB “controversy”.

One we may have got a break on was offensive PI on swing to Davis that wiped out first down and out them back at the 10. That set up the last drive, correct? I believe the rule is blocking is okay is pass is behind the line?

Correct. Cannot block if pass is caught line of scrimmage or beyond. This was the exact same situation that negated a touchdown on a swing pass to Tehran Thomas 2019 at North Dakota State. Thomas was about 1/2 yard beyond line. Critical call

    What a gutsy win!!

yes more 2 tight end. And oftentimes in support of the run game I believe - at least with Thorpe and O’Keefe.

with sort of an abundance of folks to throw to, I don’t think it’s that abnormal that Vaughan is not being thrown to much. With Harrell, Castles, and now Crawford back (not to mention Gilliam and Larison out of the backfield- and also Tompkins) there isn’t a lot of opportunities for others. I do think it is nice to have dispersed options so the opposition cannot key on one guy. I would say that Harrell has really stepped up.

It is still early, but I think with UCD, EWU, and both Montana’s ranked above Weber Jay Hill is getting a bit concerned. He stated that Weber was the better team in the first half, and has been making what sound to be excuses in the press, that, I think, are indicative of his concern.

I also think that if Barron had any chance of going, he would, but he would not likely run much, if so. In any case, and especially in the case of Johnson or Weisser, I think putting pressure on either we and doing any thing to confuse or shake them up will pay dividends. Johnson did not look comfortable at all last week, and I think Hill’s patience with him ran thin especially after the botched snap/fumble.

As always the turnover margin will be critical, as well as special teams - and as -always defense. Anything can happen on any Saturday, but I believe the Ags are the better team this year (season). I am not worried about the Ags offense, but they need to be sound in the other areas.
  • Week 4: UC Davis @ Weber State
As Chris Peterson said on Saturday on FS1, offense puts fans in the stands but defense is what wins big games. It looks like Devon King may be out again after seeing him go to the sideline holding his arm/shoulder. Sure would like him on Rasheed. Ags Held Weber to 18 points last game. I think the Ags win if they hold them to <=20.
  • FCS Polls Week 3
Montana State looks very tough. I would definitely have them above Eastern Washington. The brawl of the wild should be a fun game.
  • Week 3: Dixie State at UC Davis
Well I am a band alum and I cared about the band and the team, and the thing of it is, the team loved us back in the day. We were all representing the same university after all, and we the faithful (and sometimes only) rooting section . Coach Sochor would make it a point to talk to us and acknowledge us - and the impact we had on spirit. That what was so great about the relationships.

Times change I guess and I am not defending bad behavior that ostensibly lead to this. But back in the day I think everyone took a bit more personal responsibility for themselves and just didn’t attend off campus parties that got too out of hand. It again was a different era when for instance we had a member who went by “squaw” (part Native American) and she nor anybody else was offended by it. She even wore a shirt with that moniker.
  • Week 4: UC Davis @ Weber State
“What is the status of the Weber QB Bronson Barron who got injured against Dixie? I assume they think he’s their best QB.”

The announcers said it was day to day and that Barron though he could go, but they also hedged their bets by giving the out for 1-4 week range. I’m my opinion, Weber has never had a really good quarterback, but have won with a stout defense and just enough offense and special teams (read Rasheed). I think whomever is in there at QB, the Aggies should try to confuse/upset their QB as no matter who plays they will either be in there with limited experience (3rd string guy), tentativeness( Johnson) or maybe on an gimpy leg (Barron).

Then again the “backup” for Dixie didn’t do too badly save for interceptions.
  • Week 4: UC Davis @ Weber State
Weber scored 2 tds in “garbage time” although I will say they were nice passes - but I think against some 2/3 string dbs. After the first JMU score in the second half, the game was never in doubt in my mind. I don’t think Johnson was hurt, just a lack of confidence in him by Hill. Johnson never really looked very comfortable so they went with the third string guy who did not do too bad.

For the 2 long JMU runs that set up TDs in the second half, Weber stacked 8 and maybe even 9 in the box with a very high safety, and once through the line there was only the deep safety left.
  • Week 3: Dixie State at UC Davis
definitely the most talented offense the Ags have ever had. So many options. I really like using Lan Larison on kickoff returns. His rapid acceleration and putting his “foot in the ground” makes it seem he’s into the second and third wave of defenders before the first wave knows what hit them. I also love is forward lean as a running back. Gilliam was classic Gilliam and a great game. Tompkins is a Houdini and must continue using him. With HR TT and Carson Crawford in the game, the defense has absolutely no idea of what is going to transpire because all can run and throw. I have yet to see a Crawford pass that doesn’t work. And Hutton adds to the short pass run repertoire. What we didn’t see last night was downfield throws to Harrell. Overall I think the positive is that there are more ways than ever to create offense.
  • Week 3: Dixie State at UC Davis
I did not see the band on the tube but the veritable burning of the old uniforms (did not see new ones) and intentionally labeling the establishment date in a drum head seems an intentional purging of anything affiliated with the Aggie band-uh. Why not eat the meat and spit out the bones. Seems a total overreaction and sad outcome. Spirit and pride are part of college sports, particularly football, and apparently the goal was to kill it. Sounds like university HR is running things.
  • Week 3 FCS games
arizona had lost 15 in a row from what I read. So not a total surprise.
  • Week 3: Dixie State at UC Davis
could be 65-60 if so. I.e. playing EWU.
  • Week 3: Dixie State at UC Davis
Rodrigues is a very nifty runner. Not like Tompkins but very serviceable.
  • Week 3: Dixie State at UC Davis
I think I’d get Rodriguez and Gilliam out to avoid injury at this point. I guess want to reward Gilliam.
  • Week 3: Dixie State at UC Davis
seems like feast or famine in secondary.
  • Week 3: Dixie State at UC Davis
yes. I think he was quarterback in the d2 national championship game against sw Texas state when Ken o brien went down with an injury in the playoff win against North Dakota state.
