went to several games back in the early 90s when I was in grad school there. Big time football and fan base there. Pretty much everyone at the stadium or watching on TV. PA announcer starts with “it’s football time in Tennessee”. Then band strikes up Rocky Top and all sing along (at least the chorus). For those who haven’t seen a game they’re definitely a bucket list place.

What about all the noise Jackson made about his mission to return the HBCU teams to former greatness. All the recruits he sold on that plan. Now he leaves all those 4 and 5 star recruits on their own while he moves to the DI stage he talked them out of. Seems a little hypocritical.

I am sure he will improve the program, but it’s going to be a while if ever to crack into the top 3 of PAC-n although will be easier with the LA schools leaving.

Richmond’s QB could not throw a wet ball. Nothing but Joe Kapp floaters. Both Dunniway and O’Hara could at least get some spin on the ball. That was the difference in second half. Feel a bit bad for Richmond - they really shut down Sacs running game.

Richmond outplaying Sac in general. Have shut down their run game, including O’Hara (who is not a really a passer). Sac dropping a lot of balls and Dunniway throwing good and bad passes. Wet ball making things interesting.

Robby Hauck blitzes, gets blown up and Miller the NDSU QB runs past him for about a 55 yard TD. Buy yah, he is a Buchanan award finalist. Wonder who nominated him…..(rhetorical).

Castles is listed as a “junior” on this year’s roster. Don’t know if that is a true academic listing or athletic eligibility listing. Anyway I don’t see how he is currently a graduate student. As for commitment to a major professor, there really is none other than losing funding (teaching or research assistant). And as Davis Aggie said - this is athletics :-).

good pic. When we lived in Colorado in the mid-90s the Buffs were tough. I remember some of the classic big-8 games vs Nebraska. They were 11-1 in 1994.

I also remember that Sac State beat them once and of course Montana State beat them one year under Hawkins. The interesting thing about that is that the Ags demolished Montana State that same year in Bozeman.

I was impressed by the defense this year. I would say only 1 game was lost by the defense (Montana State -and sort of ignoring the Cal game that wasn’t terrible as a side note). The offense “lost” the Weber State game and needed an extra score at both South Dakota State and Sac State. The real gelling of the offense came a bit too late - and I think the injuries and solid defense of sac state were the difference. I thought the Aggie D played very well. As others have noted, a better downfield passing game aided by a big strong wide receiver would help.

It would be a challenge and I think he would do as well as any potential hire. It would be a bit weird being a Cal grad coaching Stanford, but opportunities like this don’t come around every day.

I am pretty sure there was a good reason for Crump not taking the field. Hawkins and Davis have gone more to playing younger impact players vs the old days in which there was more of a “wait your turn” system. And transfers were pretty much unheard of.

There are reasons players transfer and one of them is not playing where they were. SJSU is not Alabama (for that matter neither is Arizona) so just because they transfer from a FBS school doesn’t automatically mean they are going to play much. Smalley was a transfer who got quite a bit of playing time (and of course Castles). So if you are a transfer and fit into the culture/system and have the talent and level of performance - I gotta believe you will play.

I second the Montana thumping. Watching the game - their players absolutely refuse to help an opposing player up. SEMOs qb would get sacked then raise his hand and Montana players would refuse any assistance. But what would one expect from a Hauck-coached team.

Richmond is good, but Elon looked pretty pedestrian yesterday so I don’t give a lot of credit to only losing to them in OT. I think Sac is definitely favored but should be a good game. I think William and Mary is the class of CAA this year.
