Things getting chippy in Moscow. Very heated game.
13-10 Idaho but Sac scored just before halftime.

Northern Arizona 14 Montana 0 early 2nd quarter.
Not too surprised. Montana has questionable offense against any sort of defense.

Weird that it seems a Montana crew (or at least the color guy) is a Montana announcer and not NAU despite being in Flagstaff.

hope to get that monkey off our back. Glad the Ags are at home. I think that gawd-awful red field (Tampax field at Roos stadium) is worth at least 7 for EWU.

in his weekly show, the SUU head coach made a point to say that the refs were “their” refs and they had 3 bad calls against them. Made excuses etc. and gave no credit to UCD. His verbal delivery makes him sound like he thinks he needs to be forceful - kind of comes off as a jerk in my opinion. Maybe he and Hauck can compare notes.

I think one of the keys on offense is to provide a bit better pass protection for Hastings. They had him rolling out quite a bit to avoid pressure against SUU. Of course blowing a few holes in their defensive line for a better rushing game is going to be important. As always line of scrimmage play is where games are usually one/lost.

there are only 3 non-conference games and league games are penciled in far in advance CD and are generally home and home given the inability to play all league teams in a given year. So, to get 6 home games means in average you need 2 of 3 non-conference games at home. Playing an FBS team will be away regardless, so you would need a fixed schedule of 2 patsies that you bring in. Recently UCD has consistently been playing one FBS
Team so that would need to be offset by a consistent scheduling of a team that visits (and not a home and home arrangement. The reason Montana always has more home games is that they bring in patsies (and can afford too with their ticket sales and attendance). So Davis is not scheduling patsies (at least not 2) so I don’t understand your last sentence. I do like RiverAggies thought of scheduling close group of 5 teams. Of course those will be away but more Aggie fans would attend. But those would not get as many Aggie fans as a game with Cal or Stanford.

yah I was being sarcastic about the .500 record. Plus hard to get a 0.500 record with 11 games.

it’s just their (Idaho podcast) prediction. Guess we could jog their memory with their very confident prediction of Idaho over the Aggies last year vs the reality of a relative blowout - man that was a good game for the Ags. They have also said in the past that Hawkins seems to have their number.

TV crew said Kraft was injured. He may have been one of them. I really like Kraft as a receiver but unfortunately he has been injured most of his career at Davis. Perez was also out due to injury.

Montana is always over-ranked. They schedule out of conference patsies - except I guess d2 Ferris State who held Montana to under 200 yards offense. They are the only team I know who could have a .500 record and still get a playoff invite. Of course by padding their OOC schedule - they will likely get 6 wins and that will always get them into the playoffs.

they do a good job except for the homer EWU guy Kylor whose go to is off color language and misuse of words, and who does no research. Oh, wait - he’s an EWU grad.

The Jamie guy (JMU) knows his stuff and the NDSU guy Matthew has a great voice, is unbiased and is a good moderator.

WSJ took a completely different approach in their rankings this year and other than the ivys, the prestigious public’s dropped way and I mean way down. As I recall the basic criteria was how much the earning power increased after graduation - must of been previous cohorts demographics or something and I think included debt to pay off in that assessment.

I watched the EWU- SELA game on-demand. It was a very close game and the score was not indicative of how close it was. SELA qb threw a horrible ball for easy pick on their last drive as Eastern had just gone ahead deep in their own territory so eastern got a bonus score. Eastern qb is mobile but his throwing accuracy was very erratic, plus he throws dangerous passes. He threw only 1 interception but threw many that were pickable. I think that is due to lack of experience. Eastern o-line looked good. They play like a typical eastern team - spread offense and a lot of pace. I saw many times when it appeared they did not have 7 on the line of scrimmage - primarily because their O-line formed a chevron so the tackles were nearly 2 yards off the ball. I think they do this to get a jump in pass protection. I am guessing the refs allow this if you are a tackle - but clearly not on the line of scrimmage. I don’t think eastern’s defense is as good as the Tbirds - maybe small sample size - but Eastern has never really been known for their defense. It is better than last year’s which was abysmal. I am hoping for the Ags defense to shake up their young qb a bit and get some picks - and of course pick up the offensive production. I really don’t like that program - just don’t think they have much class.

Agree to all your thoughts. We seem to need a tall, speedy, or at least speedy wide out. We have good short distance receivers, but seem to lack a real go to guy for deeper passes. SUU defensive line was very stout against the run. I think better than most big sky teams.
  • 2023 Week 3: Southern Utah (0-2) @ UC Davis (1-1)
totally agree. DBs were playlng way off the receivers and I think in a zone defense so easy as pie to complete 10 yarders at will. Defense was great for 3 quarters then got too soft IMO. It’s ok to do this if you are up 3 scores and late in game.

Lan Larison again. Gut check game.
