  • Quarterfinals Week 16: UC Davis (11-2) @ South Dakota (10-2)
SouthDakota O-lineman Joey Lombard’s brother posted a live quote on the SDSU B team show that “my brother is going to feast on #75 all game. A previous chat had noted the Aggie Pride interview with Princeton where he said (paraphrasing) “we are going to beat their a@@ and send them home”. Maybe need the brother’s quote for locker room material.

Absolutely! Many moons ago in my punt, pass, and kick days (ford dealership sponsored - don’t know if that event is still around), that is what I aspired to. Definitely a thing of beauty, it carries much better by reducing drag. Whelan would bang those when he had enough field to work with.

@AggieFinn That interview should be sent to all high school coaches that coach prospective QB recruits. I was impressed with the detail Coach Plough provided with regard to QB reads and coaching, and multiple specific plays in the Illinois State game. Contrast that with Hauck press conferences when someone asks him about a play and he says “I don’t recall that play”. Added to the QB carousel he plays. If you were a recruit, where would you want to play?

I didn’t realize that Cade Cox did the punting against Illinois State. Plough mentioned that in the presser. Hang time was improved and distance too. Special teams performance is amplified when the competition gets stronger.

Also, the last USD TD (reverse motion sweep) to seal the game had 2 very noticeable holds by 2 different O-linesman. One of the Tarleton defenders was throwing up his arms in frustration while being held. Got to play through any perceived injustices though - can’t control those.
  • UC Davis joining MW for all sports except for football paves a clear path to FBS membership
I keep on seeing the endowment mentioned, but endowment accounts are usually restricted, and normally only 4% can be withdrawn from the corpus per year. My guess is that little of the endowment corpus is usable towards sports, let alone football.

Don’t remember that from undergrad days but in more recent years, my son, a physics major and smarter than me, told me about his (Schrödinger’s) cat. Let’s hope that the Aggie cat in the box is alive, or conversely, the coyote dead.

I suspect there is a lot of turnover in whatever paid staff is dedicated to promotion and securing/leading interns for sports events (in this case football). You really need a leader/champion and with turnover that can be difficult to sustain. I have been out of touch for decades on that front. We just had the band-uh and the north end zone students screaming their lungs out.

and their Eigenvector method has Davis favored by two points.

I like the eigenvector method … it has “value”. ….. sorry couldn’t resist.

Better playing in a dome or hanger in Vermillion than out in 20 degree weather - which isn’t all that bad - and that wind that always seems to crop up in Brookings which would suppress the passing game.

I believe Carrillo like @Riveraggie said. He is a defensive lineman and doesn’t start. So down 1 O-line starter and 1 D-line reserve. All teams have injuries at this time of year and the ones with more quality depth weather the storms unless the numbers get ridiculous.

Thamks for clarifying. It’s been a while since I was a student. When in grad school at Tennessee, we could just show a student ID. Would get my wife in with another female student’s ID who generally looked nothing like her - but you pretty much just got waved in.

The CA logo denotes Cal Aggies, like the Cal Aggie Band-Uh, but that never was meant to be associated with the University name, so the Cal Aggie Band-uh for instance was the marching band from the University of California, Davis. I personally don’t get offended with someone says “Cal Davis”. When we played San Jose State (ok I left off the accent on the e and may offend a Spartan), the locker room we used was labeled “Cal State Davis”. Now that was taking things too far :-).

I think that’s it. If you just have to show your student ID and are used to doing that, then hear that’s not the deal - most students likely just mentally checked out.
  • Most Interesting 2024 Quarterfinal Game
I get a kick out of the tubs guy wanting a rematch with Davis. “We should have won that game ….yada yada yada. Well if they beat Montana State Friday night they may get their wish.
  • Playoff Talk 2024
idaho has a much lower probability of beating Montana State than the Ags have of beating South Dakota.

If Idaho beats Montana State and Ags beat South Dakota, I am seriously thinking about flying out to see the potential Aggie playoff home game. I give the chance of both those outcomes occurring a probability of about 10%.

CJ had a big game. Look like he abandoned his brace. Led the team in receptions and yards.

Their o-line is big and strong. Theiss gets behind those guys and motors. Key will be stopping their rush game. Their QB is good, but does not pass with the accuracy of Miles. They’re a typical Dakota school - not a lot of flashy stuff, just try to wear you down. Tarleton was able to move the ball on their defense. I think have limited experience with offenses like the Aggies that have such a complex and varied scheme.

Punting was much better today. Both distance and hang time was much better than normal.
  • Rd.2 PLAYOFFS Week 15: UC Davis vs. Illinois State
I noticed that on several occasions the pass rushers ran past the quarterback so he just stepped upon the pocket and took off.
