Sounds like special teams were key in this one. EWU is atrocious in the kicking game, and say what you will about Hauck, but he demands all three phases of his football teams are played at a high level. I remember Marc Mariani about a decade ago, the kid was leading the country in return yards, and you don't do that without having great scheme and real effort on blocking. Think the kid got drafted.

Their stud QB got hurt late in the game, late 3rd Qtr. or 4th Qtr. - Montana couldn't mount a comeback, but they did finish the game down in the red zone with a chance to either tie or win, don't remember.

He earned it, and his numbers are down this year not for lack of trying, but lack of blocking and scheme for him.

OJ Simpson had "Stadium Watch" as a campus job. He'd show up once a week and see that the stadium was still there, and that was it.

I don't know, after seeing EWU get driven on consistently @ Portland State, I think Eastern's D leaves a bit to be desired. However, the grind is over, it's do or die, so look for an opportunistic defense...looking for turnovers plain and simple. Montana runs a heavy ball control offense, nothing flashy, so if the Eagles can force mistakes it'll really help out EB and Co. Montana is no slouch on defense either, it was a tough matchup going into the 4th quarter earlier this year, and the starting Montana QB got hurt in the second half I believe.

NDSU, Montana and Sac State all got raw deals with their pairings this week. Maybe I'm wrong, but Southern Illinois, EWU and SDSU were all fringe seeds for the playoffs...all playing seeded teams...with the only non-conference matchup being South Dakota State @ Sac.

54% is brutal. That's just unacceptable.

Friday night must watch is EWU @ Montana --- EWU won the first matchup earlier in the year, and an Eagle player was pretty vocal in his criticism about Montana being seeded for the playoffs.

Most of these guys are out of Davis' league, but I enjoyed the on-field film for the Mater Dei vs. Servite game played in Anaheim last night. Of note, a lawsuit was recently filed against the Mater Dei program on behalf of a former player alleging that ritual hazing led to a brain injury. The LA Times and OC Register are all over it.
