Sounds like a snakebit situation. Whatever, next opportunity awaits...not everybody gets a Kurt Warner at No. 4 on the QB depth chart.

Hearing quotes from Margin Call in my head.

"...and you know damn well we don't sell anything to anybody unless you think they're going to come back for more. That's the lesson we learned."

Student-Athletes have a market, but you have to perform consistently to get buy-off for 4 years!

Yeah, but who's throwing it? Who's catching it? We should be improved at WR this year, more experience, but any legit transfer guys?

As for Lan's pre-season accolades, I'll bet you a shiny new dime he is only thinking about getting the Aggies into a playoff run.

Ultimately, I think the transfer portal is a good thing. It's showing remarkably good signs in baseball. Guys who have developed in 2, 3 years of playing at say a Tennessee Tech, Chattanooga, UC Riverside a Texas Southern --- and have blossomed to legitimate DI players can transfer in and play at a Florida State, a South Carolina, an Oklahoma State, an Oregon State immediately. Baseball is baseball in most any program, the fundamentals are the same.

In football, you have playbooks, and bonding/playing together counts for more than most sports in my opinion. Coaching staff chemistry, teammate chemistry and rep count - it matters a lot. As this thing progresses, I think the transfer bit will continue for certain players who get beat out at say a QB job for example, will get calls to play somewhere else, and they should take it to play - but I think more and more kids will look to stay in their situations at the schools they chose for a variety of reasons. Having the option to transfer is good though, sometimes mistakes are simply made, bad decisions to go to the first choice out of high school, no cooperation with coaching, teammate differences, cultural differences, whatever - every recruit is sold during the process - if they don't like the situation after a year or two, getting out is good for an individual.

If you don't bow down and kiss the ring, you may as well be pond scum for challenging their greatness in the FCS.

I imagine ACC Network(s) are itching to see the numbers from the new west coast additions. They should be covering everything out of the gate.

Well, it's right off of downtown, in that horrible undercrossing off of 80, it's a decent walk to get across the bridge and get there. Seems like a relatively dead area - though they've got that housing, and frat row that runs to the west, lots of bike traffic, kids just trying to get home on the other side of 80 - just think it's not the most prime spot. Actually, that Whole Foods wasn't a bad inclusion - but even that didn't last. I honestly just miss being able to go to Pluto's ha ha. Looks like they've got a lot of Asian food joints there now, so that's good. Just open a place there that sells alcohol - it'll do just fine.

I remember when that was Pluto's, freshest, heartiest food in the City at the time IMO.

7 stories is quite an accomplishment for Davis. That must've taken some very good convincing.

Cal has the money to buy out games?
  • 2024 Baseball Schedule
Look forward to following UCD baseball a bit more closely next season. I've got old junior college buddies coaching at LSU so I've been following them a lot harder.

The regional games this post season have been phenomenal.

It's tough to damn near impossible to build anything tall in Davis.

Would be nice if they opened up a decent capacity sized bar and grill right there for students.

Yeah, the old Davis Grad closed down in 2019 I think, I was working there that summer building a bridge on the south side of campus - went there a lot for lunch for old time sake, the new Athletic Performance Center north of UCDH Stadium was also getting graded and was just beginning to go up. Made me sad, was a huge easy place to watch just about any game available, open at 9 am Saturday, burgers, fries, onion rings, beers and booze - games in the back - we saw some great World Cups there, lots of international students in Davis obviously, huge turnouts, it was funny watching all the Spain fans go out at halftime and be smoking cigarettes in a circle talking about the match. The Brasil matches were a must to go to because all the sparkling ladies would show up and be cheering on the mighty Seleção Canarinha.

Used to be big also for the locals in Yolo County and beyond, they'd come in there late on Saturdays and do country dancing. A lot of farmers and ranchers filled that parking lot on Saturday nights.

I heard they were rebuilding that area - haven't been there since last fall, but I thought there was a plan for a 3 or 4 story condo tower, probably multi-use, with Starbucks etc. down below - very popular spot for coffee and bubble tea drinkers.

Two good spots, also out of town, go try Plainfield Station, a lot of local farmers and weekend bikers like to hang there. it can be pretty quiet, but when it fills up, it's a fun spot.

Pietro aka "Pete" will hook you up.

52, man. Larry was a massive man and a stud for years. RIP big Lar.

Well, given the experience in place and the skill sets, this will showcase what kind of coordination we'll get on offense to play to Davis' current strengths.

I've been thinking all off-season how Hastings will run Shredville...it's so not his game...but Plough does have Larison for one more year...it has to be a Larison centered offense right?
  • Looking Ahead to the 2024 Football Season Discussion
Shredville mindset is aggressive and attacking, requires a tremendous level of conditioning, both physically and mentally. Defensively, I imagine the emphasis is to create turnovers and be opportunistic.

Is Huard still considered a "5 Star" QB at this point?
