Well said. Your situation is unfortunately not unique. The development (fundraising) staff both on the academic side and with althletics is not very strong.

That was prior to House settlement and is being revisited.

The 90% goes away with the new increased scholarship limits. Rosters do come down to 105.

I have some oceanfront property in Iowa for sale. Seems like this thread has many potential buyers.

You are right about the terrible email but facts are facts and Davis football is at the low end of donations, paid tickets and unaffiliated sponsorship revenue in the Big Sky. I think this is largely attributable to failures of the administration through the years but substituting Utah state or San Jose for Idaho and Cal Poly does nothing to bolster anything.

Rocko - that was a terrible message. Rewrote for you. You need to do a better and more strategic job communicating.

As many of our fans are aware, the college athletics landscape continues to shift as conferences realign and athletic departments work to incorporate newly implemented policies. At UC Davis, we are incredibly proud to have one of the largest and most diverse athletic departments in the nation. The number and quality of our student athletes is unparalleled relative to the financial resources that we have available as an athletic department. And while we are mindful of the changing landscape, our institutional leadership is focused on providing the best experience for our student athletes and fans over the coming decades.

The path to ensure the success of UC Davis Athletics over the near and long term is through enhanced student, fan and partnership engagement throughout each of our programs. We are incredibly proud of the support that we have received, including our new football and student performance center, one of the finest facilities in the west. And following a month with big wins by Aggie Football (over #5), Volleyball (over UCLA) and soccer (over LSU), to name a few, we are excited to announce [insert development department/fan travel/whatever].

The reimagined MWC is a step down from the Big Sky.

That D is legit. For this to go reasonably well the Aggie d needs to counter.
  • Sac State to get a New Stadium

Not when you’re insulated financially because your supporters don’t actually support you with money. Plough has talked about this publicly.

Your response to the Yolo poster kinda sinks your viewpoint. USC’s athletic department is funded by donors, sponsors, the media deal, and people that attend games. UCD’s athletic department is funded by current students and the central campus. There is an obvious difference between those two stakeholder groups. Fox and people that donate north of $1m per year to SC football decided that game would not be played. At Davis, as an alum you are obviously entitled to an opinion but until your opinion is shared by a stakeholder group that moves the needle financially, it really doesn’t matter.
  • Sac State to get a New Stadium

Very few programs even in the Power 4 are headed to 105. Davis getting to 85 is possible by increasing to the new caps at softball, w soccer, w hoops, etc.

They plan to have a plan but the reality is they have no money. They have done this multiple times over the years with stadium and arena ideas.

Paid attendance at ucd has been in the range of 5k in a good year. The total attendance is juiced by the students the first two weeks of class. They don’t contribute to the gate and nobody is really counting. 11k is generous as max capacity within the fences. There’s no way 14.5 is a real number.

Fresno State is gone. The MWC without Fresno and Boise is essentially the Big Sky and the media deal will reflect that reality. For Davis to move to the new MWC and be marginally competitive in football would require at least $50m of capital expenditures plus an increase of $10m per year to the football budget. $10m per year is more than 2x the annual ticket, sponsorship and donor contributions for the entire athletic department. Good luck.
  • 2024 Week 4: Utah Tech (0-3) @ UC Davis (2-1)

Couldn’t agree more. So many missed opportunities. Instead of acting like adults and providing some leadership to course-correct, Mrak Hall always defaults to forming a cancel committee. The current bunch of administrators was born on third base (thanks to funding levels) and acts like they hit a triple. A lot of good things that separated the campus from many peers have been lost due to mismanagement.

The same level of effort goes into the media releases. Very little pride, zero accountability and no vision.

That attendance figure includes 4,000 of his imaginary friends.

Gathering wins? This isn’t the Oregon trail. How about we stop throwing across our body into traffic, put our hat on forward and tell the kids we’ll see them when the workday is complete? The defense has kept this team alive. The hc needs to stop patting himself on the back and provide the offense some direction. Every time Hastings takes more than 3 seconds to throw the ball the entire offensive staff owes the D 20 push ups.
