Tackling is brutal. Only noticeable flaw.
  • Week 8: UC Davis @ Northern Arizona
KO beautifully executed...could we make a game of this?

TE Preece out today with bad shoulder. But that can't be reason we are not throwing ball more. Drive when we scored looked like Aggies....rest of half looks like Gould offense. Will be interesting to hear what the strategy was. This is ugly so far but will be interesting to see what second half brings.
  • Vote for Keelan!
KD up by 4,500 votes. Maybe Aggie pack members got on their phones and voted:)
  • Week 6: Eastern Washington @ UC Davis
DrMike-agree with your comments about clock management at end of game. Lots of time wasted instead of trying to get in closer FG range. And we did same thing at end of first half...not sure what the plan was but clearly didn't work. Had flashback to Cal Poy game last year when we couldn't get kicker on field at the end of first half due to poor clock management. And am wondering why Hawk didn't have kicker Blair come on to try those long FGs as he showed last year he can score from long range. It looked like he was warming up on sideline with couple minutes to go. He was bombing KO's too. In close games we need to be able to kick field goulds longer than 25-30 yards.

ND Blog has injury update...looks worse than what Aggies went through past couple years...good week for a W

    I take that back:)

Keep hope alive....remember last year we were down 32-10 and came close to pulling out the win if not for the muffed punt.
  • Aggie Stadium
Agree with prior comments that stadium looks great, but the ref's mic issue takes away from fan experience. Would think with all the brainpower at UCD we can get that fixed before next game. Also agree concession operations need careful review: example- Buckhorn stand had 2 cashiers with about 15 workers standing around. Slow and inefficient....would imagine K. Blue noticed that and will address.
When students are back and 10,000 in attendance these fixes, together with the vastly improved team, will ensure a great fan experience.
  • Week 2: University of San Diego @ UC Davis
Good article today about kicking game at SDS. It was clear Hawk was not going to kick to these returners and used the pooch kick and directional punting to avoid the big return. Smart coaching. The second half kickoffs were downwind and SDS lined up for the pooch and Whelen knocked it over their heads. Net punting average by Blair was 40 yards, one of the best in the Big Sky last week. Will be interesting to see what the special teams plan is this week against a team our own size.

  • 2017 Recruiting
CA Forever-when you look at virtually every FCS roster you see they carry at least 2 kickers and 1 punter. At FBS level you usually see 3 or 4 kickers and 2 punters. Typically you have 1 kicker and 1 punter on scholarship, with the rest recruited walk ons or just walk ons. It looks like new kicker offer is preferred walk on as kicker Blair and the new punter Whalen are on scholarship.
Aggies have carried 2 kickers and a punter in the recent past and split the kick off and FG duties between the 2 kickers. Typically one of the kickers also is back up punter as Blair is (he was 5 star punter on Chris Sailer website as well as 5 star kicker).
For this season it looks like the new recruit is being brought in as back up kicker as Blair would seem to be starting kicker, with kick off job up for grabs between Blair and Whelan and maybe the new recruit if he has the leg. We are fortunate to have a solid kicking game which can make the difference in close games which we are likely to face this season.
  • Assistants
According to communication with the team Coach Nurse is now the Director of Football Operations, and Coach Gomes, previously Defensive QC, is now Director of Player Personnel which appears to be a new position.
  • Hawk: New Facility, Increase in Budget ...
New member...have enjoyed getting the latest updates and agree the future looks bright for the Aggies!
Responding to GunRock post: sources report that both OC Daft and DC Watts were not invited back. Both are quality guys but with the Hawk coming in there was little doubt he puts his own guys into those key roles.
