Meaning no disrespect to Mr. Shamburger but his surname sounds like a good name for a plant-based meat product. You know you were all thinking it but cue the internet indignation.

Like maybe at your next bbq you could grill up some shamburgers and not dogs. Just saying.

I thought Frazier was the mental wellness coach. If there any plays called "tossed salad" or "scrambled egg" don't include him on those. He doesn"t know what to do with those.

I agree. Football should be split off into its own conferences. The reason it isn't is the main recurring theme in this topic-money.
It would sure simplify things though for football not to be a consideration in picking a conference.

I would also be in favor of allowing schools to have teams compete at different NCAA levels if the team is unable to compete at the same level as the rest of its programs due to lack of competitiveness or lack of opponents. For example UCD should have been able to compete in FCS all those years it was D-II and beating I-AA teams. Wrestling had to compete at D-I.

Consequently I believe UCD should now be allowed to have baseball only compete at D-II. It would lower the cost of a program that costs a ton and doesn't deliver revenue. It would likely have no negative attendance difference because the fans who attend are mostly family and friends of players anyway and it would be more enjoyable to watch a more competitive team. If anything the attendance might actually go up due to potentially playing more local teams.

I do not think the Big West schools would care. They would gladly spend the extra week playing schools that would boost their RPI. Softball can stay at D-I. They have risen to the challenge and they can more sustainably recruit excellent female athletes. And Title IX doesn't care about men lol.

The Big Sky Conference has too many members. You know that when every team does not play each other each season. I think Sac State would gladly join the Big West as it would help them lower the costs of non-football sports and having weekend contests in those sports against UCD should boost attendance at their home games. These Tuesday baseball games are an attendance joke at both venues but on a Saturday... And Sac State would give them an even number of members.

I think the WCC would welcome Stanford with open arms as it is filled with similar institutions (albeit mostly non-football ones). I imagine Gonzaga and SMC would be on board and they are the bball schools you have to sell on it. Would they take on a public university ? If so CAL could be a good fit.

Or would the PAC-12 poach some WCC schools for non-football sports ? The WCC could move to replace its losses by poaching "orphan" WAC schools that seem like good fits (Seattle, Grand Canyon, and Cal Baptist).
  • It's now the Pac-4 where will Cal and Stanford go?
I think Stanford and the other 3 really don't have much choice with football, probably Mountain West for them.

However, if I take a UC Davis-centric look at this I think there needs to be a massive reallignment. I would break up the Big West, West Coast, WAC, Pac-12 in favor of a more geographically-favorable set-up.

First of all the PAC-whatever conference would no longer sponsor football due to too few teams.

I don't think it's any secret that the Big West has at least 1 too many teams and the members would like to not have to travel to Davis/Hawaii. The WAC conference is also too large and it consists mostly of Texas schools and a bunch of misfits, especially for baseball. Seems like it's half Texas and half orphanage. The Mountain West seems like it has too few members.

Breaking up all the conferences (or at least chipping away the non-Texas schools away in the case of the WAC) is a lot easier in theory than grouping them together again. Where I would like to see a purely geographical grouping I realize making conferences that way seriously limits their ability to market and recruit, so I won't bother imagining who would be in each conference. However there are some schools that just need to be together and aren't like UCD and Sac State and UCD and CAL.

I will say that I would like to see UCD play teams I care about more often. Too many games against UC Armpit and Cal State Nowhere. In my opinion it's a travesty that so many contests against Sac State are played mid-week.

Yeah, that's tough-where would ORST and Stanford even go-the Mountain West ? It's not like they could find enough qualifying schools to join who qualify for FBS football. If football were not involved I'd say Stanford would be a good fit for the WCC. I don't like the idea of UCD getting roped into FBS either.

My understanding is that on weekends you only have to pay for parking if it's a designated special event day. I had one day when there was a big event going on so I had to pay and one where it wasn't so I didn't have to. Of course I believe football is always a special event but on that day it was just baseball so they didn't care.

Official images- this is just a bit silly to me, but I suppose it's to say "If you're going to post an image about UC Davis this is the only picture we are authorizing you to use to protect our brand" I sincerely hope recruits at all universities are not being told to post about their recruitment and what they must say. That would smack of the CCP.

Times change. I suppose it was inevitable that expressing excitement over choosing a college had to be bogged down in social media marketing.

Sac State is like a high-end junior college, preparing athletes and coaches to go somewhere else. How long will it be before some school hires Reggie Christiansen away for its baseball program ? I mention Christiansen because one of the A's announcers-think it was Dallas Braden-was just praising him on the A's-Dodgers game.. Dallas Braden looks like a garden gnome to me.

Montana's outlook is the same every year-sparsely populated and not terribly exciting.
  • Robbie Beasley?
lol..the first time I looked at that image I thought Justin Bieber was on the roster.
  • Why is UCD baseball so unpopular ?
The profile of Murphy is fun. Perhaps baseball should name the bat-retrieving dog a coach. Bats are heavy though and those aluminum bats must really be tough on a dog's teeth-probably why they only do it a few times per game.
  • Robert Garcia called up to majors
And after 1 appearance with the Marlins they waived him and the Washington Nationals picked him up. MLB is harsh. At least he appeared in a game before he was waived. That one UCD football player wasn't so lucky
  • Why is UCD baseball so unpopular ?
It's ok to say the women's soccer coach is good-looking. JK No one would call you a dirty old man for that, especially since others here (I refer you to my comment about the softball team having good-looking players back when I was a student) occasionally like to comment on the physical attractiveness of women's bball players. All these old-timers are lying to you if they tell you they only notice the players'skill. LOL
  • Why is UCD baseball so unpopular ?
The men's team still plays at Aggie Soccer Field. I believe 69Aggie was highlighting the women's soccer team to illustrate that adding lights could benefit a women's team. The question I would have is-how do you coordinate to get lights on both sides ? I have not seen rotating light poles at any sports venue I've ever visited so you'd have to identify two spots to install them. I am guessing baseball places theirs beyond the outfield fence, but where do you put soccer's ? And if you put them behind the OF fence you have to build an additional wall behind so as to keep distracted bicyclists from crashing into them. And UCD has lots of bicyclists who ride with their heads down oblivious to everything around them
