Haslam here directly contradicts himself as he details three 'quality losses' for MSU! Two times he invokes Montana State.

" 'I've said before that you can’t have a resume full of quality losses. You’ve got to have some quality wins,” Haslam said. “Montana State’s win at Sacramento State, that’s a good win. And then you have three losses to teams that are seeded in the top four. Not a lot of schools can say that.' ..."

" 'Those things are discussed. They become real separation points,” Haslam said. “Each member of the committee represents a conference, and the responsibility of that committee member is to point out, ‘Hey, quarterback was missing,’ for example, or, ‘Running back got hurt.’ … You’re reminding people, ‘Look, Montana State’s inches away from beating South Dakota State and a field goal away from sending it into overtime against Idaho.’' "

Humm, the Aggies have both of those... league MVP out, leading to two heartbreaking losses.

    ** MUST READ **

They must be getting some blowback.

406MTSPORTS: Big Sky Notebook: FCS playoff committee chair Kent Haslam sheds light on playoff selections

"The committee’s decision to select Sac State over UC Davis [their bold] came after “one of the deeper debates” the committee had during a selection process that lasted until about 1 a.m. Sunday, Haslam said. Sac State’s inclusion in the playoffs didn’t come entirely at the expense of Davis, he added. They were two of several 7-4 teams — along with some 8-3 teams — vying for the final at-large bids."

"But the comparisons are impossible to avoid because Davis beat Sac State 31-21 in Saturday’s Causeway Classic, giving both teams seven Division I wins.

“ 'It really came down to the path to seven wins,” Haslam said. “The committee felt like the path to seven wins for Sacramento was far more difficult than the path to seven wins for UC Davis.' "

"Sac State got rewarded for its first two wins of the season: at Nicholls (which earned the Southland Conference’s auto-bid into the FCS playoffs) and at Stanford (a Power 5 FBS team). The Hornets’ first three losses all came against seeded teams (Idaho, UM and MSU)."

"Davis, meanwhile, didn’t beat a ranked team until Saturday at home against Sac State. The Aggies lost to Oregon State (which plays in the Pac-12 like Stanford), UM and a pair of unranked teams: Northern Arizona and Eastern Washington. Davis didn’t face MSU or Idaho...."

" 'Had that Sac loss to Davis happened earlier in the year, I don’t know how that would’ve swayed whatever way it went.' "

Agreed. Some similar patterns w tailback, one year with UG he took the vast # of carries. Same for LL.
  • Looking Ahead to the 2024 Football Season Discussion
Agreed 100%. It is a team game. There seemed to be hints that the O line had a few issues, and I'm not an expert at evaluating WRs. (I can share that a parent of a former Aggie standout WR complained that Jake Maier couldn't throw deep routes and that we had the speed.) Not giving a single handoff to Jeremiah over 3-4 games makes the QB fake to him almost meaningless. It would seem beneficial to keep them honest. Does Hutton graduate?

Sac Bee: "“He’s [Larison] the best player in the league, no question about it, and maybe the country,” Hawkins said. “He’s super talented. That dude has a huge heart and he’s extremely tough. He’s what you’d want in a son. He’s unbelievable. He’s the heartbeat of the team. He’s spectacular.” "

    Budgett was also out.

Davis Enterprise: Robbed! UC Davis misses FCS playoffs

    Bob Dunning

"...Head-to-head results are considered the gold standard when selecting teams for post-season play or to break ties in awarding automatic bids, but for some reason, the selection committee turned a blind eye to Saturday's Aggie victory.

Apparently, order of finish in one of the strongest conferences in the country was also irrelevant to committee members."

FTR, we don't know if MH or other key players were hurt.

FWIW TB allegedly was young when he came out of high school. What a player.
  • Looking Ahead to the 2024 Football Season Discussion
Why does it seem we rarely throw over the middle, unless MH has the DeSantis problem. With our current offense, opponents basically cover LL, Magic, and Hutton.

Continue to tap into UCLA and Cal for transfers. They've been key in recent years. Look at other academic powers.

Does Hawk recruit on the road?

Are our WR coach / OC developing WRs?

Why are we not making the needed halftime adjustments?

Should we send offensive coaches to a Speckman Fly camp, or have him come out for a week as a consultant?

Is there a JC QB worth adding. Is dual threat Dorian Hale (formerly w Sac State) of CCSF a candidate?
  • 2023-24 FCS Playoffs
Our special teams play also had our offense looking at some long fields early on.

Great job by the defense. If we had offense and special teams clicking, one could argue its a top 10 defense.

    Slack beat a weak Stanford.
  • 2023-24 FCS Playoffs
And one pick it looks like the receiver broke the wrong way.
  • 2023-24 FCS Playoffs
I never understood the predictable use of downhill RB Chukwudobe as a blocker only and with a team with few playmakers, not playing Babbs.

Yesterday we faked a handoff to JC, which they didn't buy, bc we never give him the ball! Perez doesn't seem to break plays. Babbs broke a 64 yard reception, and then didn't play. Chaz Davis is a lengthy WR who had 8 catches one game, and then was featured less or couldn't get open?

    Fisher looks great at RB.
  • 2023-24 FCS Playoffs
Did our O game plan look refreshed yesterday? I actually saw a fly sweep... bubble screen... and a trick play.

And if LL has the best arm on the team, he seems to have problems executing. He underthrew the deep (open) route yesterday.
  • 2023-24 FCS Playoffs
Lack of halftime adjustments (or lack of execution) killed us.
