Two other factors:
1. I think after prolonged Covid lockdowns people were craving normal human interaction.
2. FWIW, FBS teams have to meet minimum game attendance reqs (average 15,000 people in actual or paid attendance per home game).

Coach Hawk, love him, but going back to his FG strategy vs Cal. He says you don't beat them kicking FGs in the red zone. Opposing view.

- Going up 10-0 vs 7-0 gives the team momentum and confidence.
- Your FG team gets practice - better to get things ironed out before league play
- it puts a little more pressure on the Bears

I once read the number one reason students go to a college sports event is to see other students - i.e. the place to be.

Did the students do organized cheers?

Portor Connors w a nice game including a pick, and RB JEREMIAH CHUKWUDOBE had some nice yardage w only a few attempts. Would have been nice to give Mitchell Dixon some more snaps. Great game to gear up for Weber.

Some of those moves sound sharp. Get students introduced to FB early, then running of the Frosh at Game #2. I was disappointed last year in understaffed concessions, and not all concessions open. Possibly Covid related. The food options are light years ahead of Tomey... but you risk missing large chunks of the game to stand in line. If the lines went quicker, I might go a second time --> more revenue. And then a better fan experience.

RE non students ... is our core base aging overall? Are we bringing in alums in their 30s and 40s?

How did they get the students out? Covid lowback?

Were they into it? Did the UC Davis Band show up?

Was tonight the running of the First years?

To be fair, Cal a Pac 12 team, and SDSU # 2 in the nation in FCS. So San Diego hopefully provides more reasonable competition.

Puzzling that we've seen little from Lance Babbs. I don't know why, but I'd try to get him some dump-off passes, touches, to get him in rhythm ... motivation / confidence. He was a proven impact player. Try him deep.

FWIW, Rex Connors had 7 tackles vs Cal, #2 on the team. So SDSU wasn't a fluke.

FWIW, #21 Eastern Kentucky beat FBS Bowling Green in a 7 OT game. The game took 4.5 hours. Highlights.
