Back to football, Sac State ties it up with a 2 point conversion. 20-20.

Go Lancers! Zalesky and Derek Moore are coaching the Cal Baptist team as they transition to D1. See the link below for Hokit. Small world, the brother of the Fresno State wrestling coach just led the women's USA freestyle team to a team bronze with three gold medals this week at the world championships in Kazakstan.

Not sure. But he was an All American last year (top 8), which is not easy for guys who train all year for wrestling. I'd guess the entire wrestling staff watches the football games on the edge of their seats hoping he doesn't get hurt.

Josh Hokit is an outstanding wrestler. Can't wait to see him in a few months when NCAA wrestling gets going.

dang, just turned this game on. Fresno is 0-2, but definitely didn't expect this score.

    Really ESPN+? Technical difficulties?
  • Week 4: UC Davis @ North Dakota State
Seriously, 2 offensive pass interference calls... Let them play?
  • Week 4: UC Davis @ North Dakota State
The mood is a little different on the Bison forum this afternoon. Still early, but not a bad start. "Oh boy. Davis is goooood."

what happened in San Diego is we were highly efficient on offense but let some scoring opportunities get away such as the turnover in the red zone and getting field goals in the red zone.Riveraggie

This seems like an oxymoron, that the offense was efficient, except when they weren't. Looking at the stats, what sticks out to me is that Maier had two runs for a loss of 6 yards. The USD QB had 8 runs for a net of 19 yards. How many of those 19 yards resulted in 1st downs? Looks like 17 of them:

      1 - 4th and goal at the 1 for a TD.
      2 - 3rd and 5, rush for 10 (+ a personal foul for another 15 yards)
3 - 3rd and 4, rush for 6 to the UCD 4, which set up the near TD at the end of the game.

If there was a G5 conference that overlapped our location we would be thereBiZon

It has to be more than distance. The Pac12 is pretty spread out. Looking just at USC, they play Oregon, Washington, CO, and Utah for conference games. But maybe access to a major airport is a bigger issue, especially if MSP is the only option and is three hours away. Something just never seems to add up. Either way, makes no difference to me. Looking forward to a good game this Saturday!

Based on comments on the Bison forum, that's how they feel. Sagarin rankings seem to agree. It will be interesting to see how their game against Oregon goes next year. This article is almost a year old, but the overall message probably hasn't changed much.

We opened as 24.5 point underdogs. Is the difference between 1 and 4 really that large?Fiat Lux

I've been following the Bison forum, and they have the same comments. "So the difference between the No. 1 team in FCS and the No. 4 team is 3 TDs. Good grief, we won't be tested til Sept 5, 2020." (They play Oregon on 9/5/20.)

I don't really understand the logic in being the dominant team for so long in FCS. Good for them, they clearly have an awesome program. But is there no drive for the next level? Or is it limitations on the Fargodome, and not being able to move up without a larger stadium? I know I've seen people on this forum pushing for UCD to move up to FBS, with more rational people looking for a first FCS title before even bringing that conversation to the table.

I'm hoping for a good game. But in reality, I think NDSU is just too stacked and Davis will start making mistakes. And NDSU will capitalize on every small mistake/error/misjudgment that we normally get away with, or at least are usually able to recover from.
  • Week 3: Lehigh @ UC Davis
Any update on Bland? I took a peek at the Lehigh football forum. They seem pretty down on the team this year, and have already chalked it up to a growth year with a lot of young players on the team.
  • Week 2: UC Davis @ San Diego
Stats poll just released. Top 9 remain nearly unchanged. Weber and Maine trade the 6 and 7 spots. Ags stay at #5.
  • Week 2: UC Davis @ San Diego
All-in-all, a win is a win, but I have to imagine that our rating is going to drop after coming as close as you can to losing to a non-scholarship team.CA Forever

Still #4 in the NCAA coaches poll. Stats poll hasn't been released yet.
  • Bad press for the Band-Uh!
I was unaware of that lawsuit.

    https://www.ucdavis.edu/news/settlement-wrestling-coach-lawsuit-725k-former-coach-female-athlete-dispute/

The article is 12 years old: "Women's wrestling is not a sport sanctioned by the NCAA, nor does the NCAA consider it an emerging sport. It is not sponsored by the Pac-10 or Big West Conference, to which UC Davis belongs. Fewer than 10 women ever expressed an interest in wrestling during the years that Burch was head coach."

Women's wrestling is blowing up right now. When Davis cut the wrestling program, my first reaction was why don't they just make the team coed, or create a women's team??? Google Forrest Molinari, a product of East Bay wrestling, headed to the world championships in less than two weeks to represent USA.
