  • Shredville gear?
i think there might be a logistics issue having a door from the outside and a door into the stadium. not that we'd have a HUGE volume of fans that would make it hard to keep an eye on.

i haven't been in the campus bookstore in awhile. the inventory in the downtown store is pretty weak. a wall of CA shirts with specific sports under it. A bunch of UCD dad/mom/grandpa. And an assortment of shirts in all colors BUT blue.

The Adidas stuff that the staff/players were is SO much nicer.

one more thing on TY : that guy is getting hammered every time he goes to the basket. On the foul i was referring to above just before the half, he got blasted by a couple of guys. He took at elbow to the eye early in the game (garnering a T on Idaho) that required a bandage to stop the bleeding. I thought he should have drawn 3-4 more fouls last night, but the refs seemed to let that go (but called a whole bunch of ticky-tack stuff on both teams).

He's pressing a bit now, but it feels like a breakout game is coming. He's still a menace on defense.

Speaking of defensive menaces....Niko was a terror last night. 4 blocks, 4 steals, and a ton of altered passes and shots.

Can't say I'm a big fan of our new 'Majorettes' who sat in the baseline bleachers and danced randomly to the timeout music.

Tamba missed his first two FTs in our first possession and never looked comfortable after that. TY missed two right before halftime (first time he’s ever done that?) and looked a bit bewildered when he came off the court.

If those two shot like they normally do, it’s a 15-point win. If the ref doesn’t call a T on Tamba as he’s mumbling walking off the court about 15 feet away from him, it would have been a 15-point win (four point boast in Idaho’s 10 point run).

Defense has been solid; FTs not so much. Feels like we should be up 20 instead of 10. 4 to go.

I wasn’t saying anything bad about the corners - just didn’t hear much about Cotton, so a move to P4 was a surprise. Agree with you about the stress on corners this year.

I guess this kinda surprises me. I didn’t think of our corners as a real strength this year but, honestly, I don’t follow that side of the ball too closely.
  • Playoff Talk 2024
San Diego hosted Harvard a couple times in the 2010’s. Princeton was out here in 2023. Also have had Brown and Yale out but that’s been awhile .

Brown was at SLO in 2018

It’s tricky getting them out here. They open later than most FCS schools so their opener would be our 3rd game.

We’re listed as 7.5 point favorites. Need to get off to a strong start - we almost dug ourselves into an inescapable hole vs Sac. They will be well aware of TY’s ability to get to the hoop so we need to hit the open 3’s. Not expecting much of a crowd which hopefully won’t effect their concentration.

Of course, we were 5.5 favorites over Norfolk and that didn’t go well.

you guys really captured my feelings after the game. Just disappointed for the players and staff to lose that final game, knowing it was could have been different. You guys know what effort they’ve put in and your empathy comes out.

Watching your video of getting to the game really made me certain I made the right choice not flying into Omaha for the game. Midwest December driving ain’t for this Californian! Painful enough watching on TV

that added bar stools and tables to the top row in section 124 (or 5) . Seemed like a popular addition. They removed seats in two rows, tables on the lower row, stools on the top.

unfortunately this isn’t Stanford where a rich donor can make some like that happen. Redoing a stadium on a CSU campus has gotta take a lot of red tape breaking!

I’m hoping that an expansion of our stadium can come under a capital improvement from Mrak Hall, instead hitting the same small big money donor base.

my shorter term memory went to 2021 and another 6 turnover game in the state of South Dakota:

When i was at Weber, they had a nice little retail space built into one end of the stadium . You could put something reasonable (maybe 1/2 the Bruce Edwards room) in that space between the locker room and the equipment/ticket office.

as for the berm, i'd be content with grass under the scoreboard, and built up the other end including the grass. It would be nice to make that end of the stadium a large set of stands which would be tough for the other team. The one end of Montana's stadium is pretty daunting. I'm not sure we can get that kind of geometric effect with the layout of the stadium -> seems like upgrades are going to be far from the field. Steep = loud!

don't forget just the increase in the budgets of all sports to be able to compete at the next level. The Hornet basketball team i saw last night is not ready for the Pac12.

I thought Leo was the key in the first half comeback. He took charge on both ends. TY hit a few nice shots during that run. Tamba was huge in the second half.

Reason key was stopping Holt. He had 14 points in first 5 minutes, 3 the rest of the way, and he had big turnovers down the stretch. Defense really flustered him.

Next is rematch with Idaho in that might be an empty Pavillion.

he had a ‘class a’ technical with about 4 minutes to go. Looked like he gave the Sac player a little kick after the Sac guy lightly grabbed his leg wrestling for the ball. Gave the hornets four points turning 12 point lead to 8. Plus that counts as a team foul which could have had an impact in what had become a close game.

Based on the offers Larison got without entering the portal, we might not see any names for awhile.
