  • Andrew Luck is Stanford’s new GM
For high revenue teams Luck's GM position makes a lot of sense. Reaching down into the coaching staff with recruiting and up into the AD's position for fund raising and staffing, he'll have a lot of say into how the program evolves both during the season and in the long term. I can see other sports following this model.

I don't think it makes sense for UCD unless drooling idiocy has us setting our sights on BCS status.
  • Best of Thanksgiving
Turkeyberry sandwiches after Thanksgiving are The Best. Good bread, dressing, cranberry sauce, and sliced turkey. Epic.

Turnovers are hurting us - that and the inability to convert offensive rebounds into points.

What an amazing game and a great win by the Ags. No quit in this team.

Excellent performance by Norris who really came alive in the 2nd half. Being able to shoot from the outside helped to open up the middle.

Once again the way the officials chose to call a game has a dramatic effect. We've seen "anything goes" games and "how dare you touch that player" games. I think we do better in the former. And who likes a free throw contest or lots of players in foul trouble. The gradual constricting of what was permissible in the 2nd half was to our advantage. When players can be routinely hammered in the lane there's a forcing of the game to the periphery. Fine if you're hitting 3's but not so great if you're not.

The quality and the consistency of officiating is vital for basketball to fair.

Also - and a totally different thing - I'd love to see colleges play the 3 on 3 game from the Olympics. That was fabulous to watch.

    Another one handed catch! Wow

Hoping for a good start for the Aggie women in this game with lots of team play.

I've seen some positive minutes from Fitzgerald in the middle. And she's looking better with each game. And maybe see some reasonable outside shooting which just hasn't been there so far.
  • 2024 Week 12: #2 Montana State (10-0) @ #4 UC Davis (9-1)
So close! The TV guys were mentioning the Idaho St game and saying, well it's not over, and then, gulp, it wasn't quite as over as many thought.

Kudos for the Aggies for embodying Aggie Pride. And that onside kick? Epic.

I rode around the field this morning. Some players were walking toward the locker facility at the north end. The high-end cameras were set up and covered, the crew were milling around the production truck.

I wonder what effect the wind might have on the game. It's blowing from the north and I don't see it dying with the sunset.

    Go Ags!

The game will be broadcast locally. I see a major upgrade in TV production is parked at the field, hopefully with better cameras. The crew were busy plugging into the distribution infrastructure from the truck as I rode by this morning. It'll be on The CW? I found it on our TiVo. And streamed on ESPN+ of course.

OMG - we had the lead - briefly - a 3 ptr at horn pulled Stanford ahead again - but I can't recall being this competitive against Stanford this late in the game.

This is the antithesis of the officiating we saw against the Aztecs. There are a few more fouls called during the 3rd quarter. If only we could make free throws!

    Staying with them, though 27-35 5:49 q3

Menlo's Landon Seaman was most definitely the best player on the floor. He was quick and smart.

Roćak had an awful game. He was just . . . behind the flow of the game. Made some bad passes. He'll have time to work through it.

The Ags' defense just wasn't what it should be. Many times defenders were beaten on the baseline and then picked up fouls.

These are tough games - Menlo was primed and the Ags? Maybe not so much. Learning how to be up for the "small games" is part of team evolution.

We'll see how they do next game.

    Go Ags!
  • 2024 Week 11: UC Davis (8-1) @ Montana (7-2)
Ah Missoula! In September of 1967 I was driving to Portland from my home in Ohio on my way to college and spent the night there. I was informed by the somewhat elderly lady who ran the small motel that "there are NO girls allowed in your room. Understand??!!!" I was tired and watched "Damn Yankees" on the TV in snowy black and white. The most vivid memory of that trip.

As a Menlo alum ('68 when it was a JC) before coming to UCD I won't be torn. Go Ags!
  • WBB: San Diego State (1-0) at the Aggies (1-0) 5 pm Friday 11/08
There were fouls called that I didn't see, that the players didn't see, that must have happened in a ghost game somewhere. It wasn't a fun game to watch because of all the fouls.

Tova had 26 points but only made HALF her free-throws. It really wasn't a good game for her with some wild shots that never should have been attempted.

Norris played well in the 4th quarter - but she doesn't seem as physical as she did last year - and she's not really a physical force inside.

Nya made some fine shots (worthy of TY) under the hoop - shots she's been attempting in earlier seasons but this time there's an authority to them - she knows where she is on the court and they're going in.

I felt the Ags were out of synch for much of the game at both ends of the court. Some of it was the officiating which was so incredibly anti-contact that it made a mockery of the game. Players on both sides were just astounded. The Aztecs, however, adjusted to it faster and better than we did.

    Now it's onward and upward!

    And what is RV Stanford?

I see they are telling us to watch on the big 10 network. But I also found it on the Fox app but when I looked at the Big10 network I didn't see it there.
