  • 2023 Big Sky Scores (Season Thread)
Nice to see Cal Poly playing better these days.
I'm going to miss having a team on the schedule that doesn't play offense like every other team on the planet, though.
  • 2023 Week 1: UC Davis @ Texas A&M Commerce
    Good interview with their coach.
He sounds like he knows they're going to get pasted next week too.
Tough OOC schedule to start with Sac and Old Dominion coming up on the road.
  • 2023 Week 2: UC Davis @ Oregon State
I may head down to SJSU to catch the Beaver game tomorrow......Curious about the Spartans' facilities upgrades as well.
  • 2023 Week 1: UC Davis @ Texas A&M Commerce
TAMC was baaaaaaaad.....but winning the season opener on the road is always huge. That was a tough road trip to open.
  • Jay Hill leaving Weber State
That's one I never though would leave. Damn. Tough one for the Wildcats.
  • Cody Hawkins new Idaho St. Coach
I had a feeling Cody was job hunting when it looked like he got in his best shape since playing QB at CU haha
  • Transfer Portal
    Regarding Castles.....

Not trying to sound like an a**hole, but bro caught 2 TD's off 30 catches and made close to zero game-changing impact this season (in the way a 6'5" Pac-12 transfer would be expected to)
.....so, how does he end up at Tennessee? Maybe because he started out in the Pac12?

I could see a guy like Gilliam heading out to a program like that....

and I re-read it and I sound like an a-hole.......but my Apple Watch just broke and I'm pissed :D
  • Week 12: UC Davis (6-4) at Sac State (10-0)
Disappointing playcalling on that last drive
  • Week 12: UC Davis (6-4) at Sac State (10-0)
    Davis defense TIRED

Left out to dry by special teams and offense
  • Week 12: UC Davis (6-4) at Sac State (10-0)
    3 things:
    Miles has no time.

Offense needs to sustain a drive to rest the D, which has been playing balls-out.

Need to put the ball in the end zone- Sac is going to start putting points up vs a tired D.
  • Bee article on Sac State Coach Taylor and the prospects for him moving on.
Recently in CFB it seems coaches enjoy the immediate “jolt” and success for a couple season- call it the emotional boost if you will….Tedford @ Cal for a few seasons, Hawkins, now Taylor. Year 4-5 seems to be where the rubber meets the road.

Taylor doesn’t seem to have the deep emotional connection to Sac that Hawk does at Davis.

    Bye, Falecia.
  • Week 11: UC Davis (5-4) @ Idaho (6-3)
I love the Davis offense in a dome. Going to be a great game.
  • Tough Hawkins Critique
"Erase the 2018 season and Hawkins’ record is 26-23."

    Uh, why?
Erase the 2019 season and Hawkins' record is 31-19......

Dumb article...also, what is the Vacaville Insider?
  • Tough Hawkins Critique
Chris Carter 2009. That one hurt.
  • MBB: UC Davis (0-0, 0-0) vs. Cal (0-0, 0-0) Mon. Nov. 7, 8 PM @ Berkeley

The basketball victory that year was ELECTRIC. Most fun I’ve ever had at a hoops game.
  • Week 10: Idaho State (1-7) @ UC Davis (4-4)
    Wow. Pocatello Bengals are BAAAAAD.
  • Week 10: Idaho State (1-7) @ UC Davis (4-4)
    ESPN+ feed hasn’t started yet?
  • Week 7: Northern Arizona (2-4) @ UC Davis (1-4)
Our 2 leading receivers are running backs (Lonzi and Lan).
I still believe this is the issue on offense- and the reason we aren’t winning ballgames.

QB needs to effectively get the ball downfield.
Hastings isn’t necessarily a running threat either. I’m not down on the guy, he is a great leader and effectively running the offense he is being given.

I think it’s been established that Tompkins ain’t gonna be asked to throw the ball downfield as a QB, and there must be a reason why Faulk has never been the starter.

The answer next year might be Dixon with his size, and presumably, arm strength.

With all of that said, I could be completely off-base and the issue could be inexperienced or ineffective WRs! I’ve noticed Babb hasn’t played much, and Chaz Davis looks great at times but seems like he’s got a short leash. I’ve always hoped we would target Castles more downfield- but maybe defenses are keying on him as he seems like our only downfield threat.
  • Week 4: Weber State @ UC Davis
My two cents at this point in the season (and sorry if this has been beaten to death).....

QB1's inability to connect consistently on mid-long range passes is doing major damage.
Maier-to-Doss/Harrel changed the entire complexion of the O- it really opened up the running game and the underneath passing game.

Davis just doesn't have the downfield threat to spread out the opposing defense.
