  • USC AD Lynn Swann resigns
USC has for too long relied on the figure head AD; former USC athletes like Garrett, Haden, Swann....This is a job, particularly at the upper level of the NCAA, that requires administrators, not celebrities.

Read a highly speculative article a couple of weeks ago, before the first kick off that was already speculating on who would replace Helton as head FB coach. The article concluded Swann would convince Tomlin to leave the Steelers and coach at SC. Don't think that's in the cards now.

Dave Roberts is a straight arrow. I recall he lived in the dorms longer than most, even lived in the dorms at law school (not at Davis). Probably still has a couple of large glasses of milk with each meal.
  • USC AD Lynn Swann resigns
May be, but President Folt of USC has a bucket full of degrees including one from Davis, and the interim AD is Dave Roberts, a former UCD All-American lineman. (He used to block for a guy named Biggs.)

Good for Doss! I just think it's better for his career now to stick with the plan and stay out of the melodrama that is Gruden and the Raiders.

Raider situation is becoming a soap opera. Keenan is fortunate to get out of there.

And now several sources (SI, NBC, CBS...) are reporting that Raiders may suspend Antonio Brown after an argument with Raiders’ GM.

The trip I mentioned that included Williamsburg was about a week long and included DC and Charlottesville. Packed thinking I could get two days out of my shirts. Ha! Was lucky to get one day. Bought a couple more along the way; washed a couple in hotel sinks and hung them to dry in the shower. Still have a William & Mary T-shirt from that trip, but can’t find the Navy Rugby T-shirt, (not that I ever earned the right to wear it.)

I grew up in the Midwest and thought the humidity there was oppressive, but a couple of quick trips to or through Miami convinced me that the southeast was much worse. Also spent a day in Williamsburg, VA about ten years ago as the tropical storm aftermath of some hurricane or another made its way through the Middle Atlantic region. Good HS friend lives in Florida now and is hunkering down waiting for Dorian to make its move. I'll take the threat of an earthquake over a hurricane or tornado.....I say with my fingers crossed and as I sacrifice a couple of small animals in my backyard to appease the weather gods.

Jacksonville in September. Hope he packed some foul weather gear. Good luck to him!!
  • Big Sky Scores Week 1
Sac pulled a nice recruiting gimmick on Friday night. Folsom played "at" Jesuit, but Jesuit doesn't have lights so Sac State hosted the game. Get some players from a couple of the better teams in the area to start thinking of Sac as a destination.

Playing down to an NAIA like Southern Oregon team doesn't say much about the team at this point, but sometimes you have to deal with the schedule you inherited and with the teams that are available. Look at USC adding the Ags to their schedule.

Want him to go wherever it's best for him, but would not be upset if he ended up on some playoff bound team next season and the Raiders baked and wilted without him in their new desert home.
  • Aggies looking to move to FBS
Article says that Floria A&M, an HBCU, gave D1A/FBS a try for all of one season in 2004.
  • UC Davis to play USC 2021
Part of what makes the scheduing stick in the craw of USC traditionalists is that if they schedule an FCS opponent, then the last two hold-outs are the Trojans' biggest rivals.

    1972 Boardwalk Bowl - UMass 35, UCD 14 - We owe them!!!
  • UC Davis to play USC 2021
The article brings up something I mentioned earlier, that eventually SC might 'back out and buy out'...and something Zander suggested - that SC should develop a long range plan to incorporate use of NFL level stadiums (stadia??) (and the Coliseum IS an NFL stadium) and develop a tie in with Las Vegas.

Helton and Swann will be lucky to be in the employ of SC on Labor Day of 2021, whoever and wherever SC plays.

Another UCD football connection to USC, though probably not involved in the recent announcement: Dave Roberts was an OT for the Ags from 1970-72. He went on to law school and from (I think) 2010 to 2016 worked with NCAA compliance and related subjects in the USC athletic department. After retiring from that post he served as an advisor to the USC president for another couple of years. I have a feeling he was a busy, busy guy in both positions.
  • UC Davis to play USC 2021
I think SC has some sort of financial interest in the Coliseum so it's $$ to them to play there. Could they match that at the NFL stadium?

Something I read indicated that USC made the decision because they needed a home game. If that's the case, they aren't going to pay extra to rent the Rose Bowl or Rams/Chargers stadium...
