  • Hawkins Stepping Down per SacBee
I wonder how much of his decision has to do with being 63 and dealing with the changing nature of recruiting in the era of the transfer portal and NIL. Coaching is becoming a young man's game.
  • Hawkins Stepping Down per SacBee
It's not like those other Aggies, at Texas A&M, who let their coach go this season, just a couple of years in to a $95 (?) million contract and will be paying him sometjhing like $75 million.
  • Causeway Cup 2023-24
Interesting result from one of those fall season events for winter or spring sports: The women's golf teams both competed in an event in Kapolei, Hawai'i on October 23-25, the Wahine Invitational at the Kapolei Golf Course. UCD finished 2nd of 16 teams with an overall score of 863 storkes while Sac, which had a great and young women's team last year, finished 11th at 891. There are a lot of reasons off-season events do not represent what will happen in the scheduled season, and they have never been included in the Causeway Cup results, (back when the schools kept a better track of such things,) so I have not included it in this unofficial tally.

EDIT: The UCD website does include this event and has the score as UCD 31.67, CSUS 5. (The UCD site has not yet been updated for the result of the men's basketball game.)...Sac's website does not have a page for the Cup.
  • Causeway Cup 2023-24
With the loss in men's basketball the Causeway Cup score is UCD 30, CSUS 10.

Next scheduled event is gymnastics on January 7th in Davis.
  • MBB: Sac (1-4) vs the Aggies (3-1) 5 pm Sunday 11/26
Frustrating. I was really hoping for a basketball sweep. On paper it looked like we should have won, but then on paper we should have won men's soccer, too. I guess that's why they play the games.
  • Causeway Cup 2023-24
And with this evening's convincing women’s basketball win the Causeway Cup score is now UCD 30, CSUS 5. Next event, and the final event for 2023, is men's basketball this Sunday the 26th in Davis.

    Go Ags!
  • 2023 Men's Water Polo
I believe this year's championships are hosted by USC at their pool in Los Angeles.

UCD's prior conference, the WWPA, marches on after the reorganization of water polo conferences. It is now composed of smaller schools, but gets an auto-bid to the NCAA tournament. There are no divisions in NCAA men's water polo. Biola University, which usually competes at the D-II level, won the WWPA title this past week, defeating Concordia at the conference tournament in Illinois.

Stanford defeated UCLA in the consolation match of the MPSF tournament, however UCLA is in the tournament as the top seed and Stanford's season is completed. (It's not just FCS football...)

San Jose State won the West Coast Conference championship with a win over Santa Clara. (San Jose State's roster reads like the Budapest, Hungary, phone book.)
  • 2023-24 FCS Playoffs
Our losses to EWU and NAU probably had more influence on the NCAA folks than Sac's win over a weak Power 5 FBS school.
  • 2023-24 FCS Playoffs
Hope Sac enjoys the holiday trip to North Dakota.
  • 2023-24 FCS Playoffs
    Gotta sell ad spots
  • 2023 WEEK 12: CAUSEWAY
Good day for UC football schools as Davis, UCLA and Cal all won against traditional rivals.
  • 2023-24 FCS Playoffs
I doubt "the committee" will care, but the Stanford victory isn't all it's cracked up to be. Stanford is 3-8 overall, 2-7 in the Pac-12 and lost to Cal today, 27-15.
  • Causeway Cup 2023-24
With today's football victory the Causeway Cup score is UCD 25, CSUS 5.

Next event is women's basketball, this coming Tuesday, the 21st, in Sacramento.
  • 2023 WEEK 12: CAUSEWAY
"it's a huge jump to the next level."
    Just an aside:
It's a big jump from level to level. I remember a guy who played DB on my son's HS team. (A shcool with a very successful athletics program.) The guy was very fast, also ran sprints on the track team. Went on to play football at a HBCU on the east coast. We saw him when he was home for the holidays in what would have been his freshman year. When asked how it was playing at that level, (MEAC), all he could say was "They're FAST!!"
  • 2023 Week 11: UC Davis @ Idaho State
May be more derisive than intended, (pleasantly so...). "Garcon" literally means "boy."
  • Causeway Cup 2023-24
In the NCAA Cross Country West Regionals held today in Sacramento the UCD women placed 7th of 39 teams with 180 points while CSUS women placed 24th with 703 points.

In the men's competition the UCD men placed 19th ot 32 teams with 500 points while CSUS did not place as only four of the five Hornet runners completed the course.

A congratulations goes out to UCD's Brianna Weidler who placed 6th and SIerra Atkins who placed 9th overall in the women's competition. That's two top ten finishes!

"Running" (Ha!) Causeway Cup score is now UCD 20, CSUS 5. The next event is football at Davis on the 18th.
  • 2023 Men's Soccer
Not a great day, or weekend, for the Ags. Other than some success at the Big West Cross Country Championship there were a lot of “L’s” on the scoreboards.
  • Causeway Cup 2023-24
Aggie men's soccer fell to Sac, 1-0, this evening.

Cup Score is UCD 10, CSUS 5.

Next events are men's and women's cross country at the NCAA west regionals on November 10 in Sacramento.
  • 2023 Women's Volleyball
Volleyball can be such a streaky game. In August I watched Iowa beat Cal Poly, 3-1, at Sac State. Sac then beat Iowa 3-0. Ags beat Sac, 3-1, at Sac. So what happens when Cal Poly, (one of the few teams to lose to Iowa (8-14, 0-10 in the Big Ten.....) comes to Davis? They defeat the Ags, 3-1.
  • Jake Maier Sets CFL Record

The Stampeders finish the regular season this weekend hosting the division leading Blue Bombers. If they win it will be the franchise's 700th win, a CFL record. They are assured a first round playoff game at B.C., even with a loss. Their current record is 6-11. 6-12 will get you in the CFL playoffs.
