  • MBB: UC Davis (0-0, 0-0) vs. Cal (0-0, 0-0) Mon. Nov. 7, 8 PM @ Berkeley
    Great win!

(Now just don't stumble against Cal Maritime. Beat the Keelhaulers!)
  • Men's water polo defeats No. 3 UOP.
Defeated UCSD this evening, 8-7. They finish the WWPA regular season 8-0, win the regular season championship and secure the top seed for the conference tournament which will take place Nov. 18-20. I believe this year’s tournament will be at LMU.
  • Men's water polo defeats No. 3 UOP.
This will be a tough road trip. UCD, LMU and UCSD are the top three teams in the conference.
  • Week 9: Big Sky Schedule and Scores
These last two games have been character builders for Sac. Up until last week they had never trailed in a game. That sounds good in the press release, but a team that has never trailed has no experience playing from behind, or coming back to win in crunch time. OT last week, trailing with two minutes to go tonight, but they pulled out the wins.

The bad news for Sac fans is that Cal lost again, almost assuring they will not be bowl eligible again and may be looking for a coach soon.
  • Causeway Cup (?) 2022-23
Men's soccer final from Sac: UCD 2, Sac 1. A mild upset and a nice victory on their pitch. Davis qualifies for the Big West Tournamment and Sac is eliminated.

Causeway score is now UCD 12.5, CSUS 2.5.

Next events are men's and women's cross country at the NCAA regionals in Seattle on November 11.
  • Week 9: Big Sky Schedule and Scores
Portland State ran out to a decent lead on the road against Eastern Washington and then held on to win 38-35.
  • Buying Tickets Online
When I go to the relatives' football game there are just as many parent volunteers at the gate as there have always been. Half of them look at me like I am an idiot (1) for not having pre-purchased tickets on my phone and the other half are as cyber-resistant as I am and immmediatley seek help from someone else (2). I have been told that using phone aps cuts down on losses by volunteers who mishandle change (3) or put their own hands in the till (4). Seems to me a credit card reader might be OK, but that probably costs more and requires the school AV staff to set up for every game.

    (1) Not to say that they are wrong in that assessment.
    (2) Who probably had to ask their own kids to set up their phones and aps.
    (3) I have encountered more and more clerks who are baffled by things like making change or accepting checks.
    (4) At school events no less!
  • [Sea] Former UC Davis star Chima Moneke is signing with the Sacramento Kings, according to sources.
I think Chima is the first to make a regular season roster. Hawkins made some summer league rosters, but I'm not sure he even played in the summer league. He had injuries one summer. He played some NBA D-League or G-League games. He was on the Miami Heat roster and played a couple of preseason games before being cut. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corey_Hawkins_(basketball)

My son the Gael thinks we need to go to a few games. Now if we can get the parking ap and ticket ap and....
  • Week 7 Big Sky Schedule and Scores
    [Original post deleted]

Hopefully the team can keep it going for the next three games but the season is going to end like it began, with very tough games.
  • Week 7 Big Sky Schedule and Scores
Article in the Bee this week about Sac. They have not trailed in a game this season. Tonight was no exception.
  • Week 7 Big Sky Schedule and Scores
South Dakota State beat North Dakota State, 23-21, in Fargo.
  • Week 7 Big Sky Schedule and Scores
Make that previously winless Colorado. 20-13 in OT. Buff fans stormed the field. Cal receivers dropped two catchable balls in the end zone in the OT.
  • Calgary resigns The Mayor
Hard to track this down, but I believe Jake became the starter in late August and has remained the starter ever since.
FWIW Hamilton defeated Calgary tonight in a mild upset. Calgary will play British Columbia in the first round of the CFL playoffs, but the two teams are still fighting for home field.
  • Calgary resigns The Mayor
Maier is going to have some say in who makes the CFL playoffs. Stampeders are already in and it appears that the final spot will be either Saskatchewan or Hamilton. Calgary hosts Hamilton tonight and finishes the season with home and away games versus Saskatchewan.

I'm old...and tired of aps. My great nephews' JV football games won't take cash or credit cards. Have to use a phone. That added a dollar to the price of admission.

Went to Davis this summer to look for logo wear. To park on campus required a parking ap. I had no desire to add one more ap to my phone, an ap I probably would never use again. Parking in downtown Davis is a hit-or-miss proposition, even on a slow mid-week summer day.

I have become the old grump.
  • WBB 2022 Pre-season News and Updates
The Turkey Tip-Off at UOP is a bit unusual. Only three teams; UCD, UOP and Wyoming. UOP vs. Wyoming on Friday, UCD vs Wyoming on Saturday and UOP vs UCD on Sunday.

Good for Keelan....but don't rush out and buy tickets expecting to see him play. He was signed to the practice squad.
