Fitzgerald has opinions about things he doesn’t understand and is proud of it, e..g. The Mercer game no decision circumstances and the crowd here boosted by students that didn’t stay until he looked around in the third quarter.
He is also.defensive about his education, otherwise why mention N Cal people as being educated. Everyone is educated these days, some people just didn’t learn anything.
I think the 17k was high - probably had to estimate the number of freshmen coming into the building. But it was larger than any crowd I’ve seen. 14k might be more realistic.
The number I know are correct are 1 and 3…..SUU’s record which should be most important to the coach. Why the heck was he paying attention to the attendance announcement when the game was still in the balance?
He had a run in with folks in El Paso last year -- then, of course, Southern Utah proceeded to beat the Miners in that game -- now the former UTEP running back Dye runs for Southern Utah! Dye certainly tore us a new one on ground all night last Saturday.
No kidding. 1-3 is all that matters. He also mentioned talking smack to the chain gang about the attendance numbers DURING THE GAME which is kind of wild. Imagine getting the brakes beaten off you so bad you take the time to talk smack to some volunteers. Maybe he's just trying to be funny, but sheesh.
He seemed to not like that the show host was impressed with our AD and the tour of our athletics facilities and especially our strength and sports medicine facility. He went on to say that the locker room for our opponents was lackluster and "didn't even have urinals" so he had to stand in a long line to take a leak. I think he's just unloading his frustrations about being 1-3 right now.
yeah, he was a bit of a grump about that. He really bristled when the hist t as liked about the facility and that it was something they could shoot for.
the opponent locker room is essentially a mirror of the home one, making it one of the nicer ones in the conference if not the nicest.
Sounds like a angry man grasping at straws for any excuse he can find.
There are no urinals but there’s toilets. Was we hoping for Candlestick Park style trough?
We could have had them dress at the Pavillion - that’s about the distance visitors walk at SUU. I think last year, the team stayed on the field rather than hoof it back.
BTW, they averaged about 4000 a game last season so they might be a source of some of his butt hurt.
Just watched this weeks interview with the coach and they say it was a sold out crowd and completely packed... but the schools own website says just under 6,000 were at the game and the stadium capacity is listed at 8,500 so they really must be stretching it! I'm being petty but ironic after how they talked about the Davis crowd the week before.
Maybe his players have poor aim? I mean the QB only completed 53% of his throws and threw a pick against us so that might be the issue. Or maybe it's the fact that he is staring down a 3-4 win season and a loss to a Pioneer League team. Spend less time counting the fans in attendance and criticizing the opponent's facilities and crowd. I mean, San Diego's facility is a dump, was that to blame there? He's just deflecting from what needs to be addressed, which is his team's performance on the field.
