The Aggies travel to Corvallis to play the newest member of the West Coast Conference. The Beavers are the land of tall trees as they have four players who are over 6' 10" although one of the "shorter" men, forward Michael Rataj at 6' 9" is the one to watch. He's their leading scorer (16 ppg) and rebounder (9.2 rpg). Guard Nate Kingz, their second leading scorer who averages only 13.2 ppg is nonetheless a deadly outside shooter having made 16 of 28 treys so far (a 57% average). OSU reeled off four straight wins ti start their season including a 70-51 victory over Fullerton, but they ran into two very good schools in Oregon and North Texas State and lost to the latter by only 3 points on the road. They average 75 ppg on offense and hold opponents to an average of 57.3 ppg. Despite the fact that Stanford is now 6-0, this is likely the Ags toughest opponent this season. Wayne Tinkle is their coach and after his final season in the Pac-12 at 5-15, he seems to have assembled a strong team combining five transfers with two returning starters in a 7-man rotation.
We're going to be severely undersized in this game so we have to be able to hit a good percentage from 3 to offset the disadvantage we'll have in the interior. I expect OSU to try and bottle up TY and make the rest of the team try and beat them. Let's hope the Aggies play a whole lot better than they did in the second half of the Norfolk State game or it will be a very long night with a lopsided loss.
OK, confused here about conference affiliation. Are OSU and WSU temporary WCC members? I thought they were remaining in the reconstituted Pac 8-9-10 with the former MWC teams?
Simply great defense by the Beavers...probably the best we'll face all season. They only allow their opponents 58 points a game and they shoot 3's lights out on top of that.
not to sound like a whiner BUT does it seem like we’re getting called for some ticky tack fouls and they are getting away with a very physical style? The last two on Nico were really weak especially when they let their center elbow himself free under the hoop
Since the first 5 minutes or so, the Aggies have hung with the Beavers pretty well. Down 13 at the half after being down 10 with 15v minutes to go. The 3 point shooting has kept them in the game, but for the third consecutive game, TY is not playing very well on offense; he's in some kind of slump.
Ags lose 90-57. OSU shot 60% overall including 57% from 3 and 24-27 from the line. We were clearly outmatched but our defense was awful and that helped them with those lofty stats.
Les didn't come out for the radio, post-game interview and, when that happens, you can bet your bottom dollar that he is extremely unhappy with the team. The team that beat Grand Canyon has disappeared in the last two games and it is not going to get any easier with Cal Poly. The Mustangs just beat Stanford 97-90 on the road. The Mustangs out scored Stanford 63-47 in the second half.
I turned off at the half - sported out. Yikes. Oddly we only had 10 turnovers, after 23 vs Norfolk. Outrebounded 40-17 and they shot kinda lights out…..so, tough night. I thought they got away with very physical play in the first half compared to what they called on us.
For much of the first half, our best player was Sevilla. Now I’m a big fan of his, but if he’s our best player on the floor, it’s gonna be a long night. Leo is playing well. TY is getting beat up and they are taking the paint away from him. If we can’t get some points in the paint so that the opponents bigs can’t sag, he’s going to have to really work for points.
