It looks official since verbal commits.com is reporting that Aaron Murphy, a 6'6 200# SF, from Modesto Christian has committed to the Aggies. He had another offer from Cal Poly.
Les has been pretty good at finding the "diamonds-in-the-rough" players who have been largely undiscovered or largely overlooked. With Murphy and Manjon commiting it looks like he has found two very early in the recruiting process.
Pepper is another great recruit for the Ags. He's a 6'3 PG and has led his AAU team in scoring this summer averaging 19.4 ppg and 5.6 rpg through 9 games. He was heavily recruited by Hawai'i, Lehigh, Montana and Bradley and also had an offer from San Francisco. He looks like he has great moves to the basket and he shoots a high percentage from distance.
Edit: Here's an older article. Watching his HS clips he kind of reminds me of Siler. Controls the game, good outside shot and can finish at the rim, and can really find the open man.
With his size and the fact that we'll have some smaller guards on the roster, I wouldn't be surprised to see Les playing him a lot as a SG. He does look like he could be the replacement for Siler when he graduates.
This statement from the article makes him sound like he fits into the "Siler mold" for sure:
"Pepper's skill set includes the ability to hit dazzling three pointers while also playing shut down defense. But perhaps what Pepper is best known for is the intensity and passion that he plays with."
Les has always said he'll take a hard working competitor over simply pure talent any day.
He looks like a talented player and would be a great fit for us. He currently has offers from Cleveland State, Montana State, Denver, Air Force, Wyoming, UC Riverside, Pepperdine, Pacific, Cal Baptist and Milwaukee. Foster plays for Smoky Hills HS in Aurora, CO, and we also have an offer out to a teammate of his, Quinton Rock, a 6'0 PG.
