Despite riding a 4-game win streak, the big games just keep coming. Tonight it’s 4th place Fullerton, only a game behind the 3rd place Aggies. A win tonight keeps regular season Big West title hopes very much alive, while a loss would almost end them. Davis needs to win-out and hope for some help in order to nab even a share of the championship.
Fullerton has the top offense in the Big West at 74 ppg, while the Aggies sit 3rd t 70 ppg. Defensively, UCD has a slight edge, allowing 64 ppg to the Titans’ 66. Cristina Jones (16.4) leads CSUF’s offense, with Nicole Steiner (11.9) and Maddy Tauro (10.5) providing support. On the glass, Jones gets 10 boards a contest, followed by Steine, who picks up 8 rpg.
Four Aggies average double figures: Ryann Bennett (15.7), Nya Epps (12.7), Megan Norris (12.6) and Avery Sussex (11.4). Norris paces the Aggies in rebounding at 13.1 rpg, while Nya Epps adds 4 boards a game. Davis will need another great effort to take the win and keep pace with front-running UCSD (Bye tonight) and UC Irvine (hosting LBSU).
17/12 for Norris, bringing down her rebound average (lol), plus two blocks.
Leading scored for Davis was Epps with 19, but Bennett and Young also chimed in with double digit efforts of 16 and 10, respectively. Aggies shot 52% to Fullerton's 40%.
Norris should've been at the line all night. 2-3 players trying to push her off the boards every shot. Wish Tegan Young had the confidence to finish...especially the 1-1 where she had the lane but threw away a behind the back instead...Bennett got us going again to start the 4th. Sussex has quick hands on defense.
Gritty win.
