The Sac Bee published a highly critical article about the concert and fight after the game against Northern Colorado. A crowd management expert was quoted as saying that "the university made all the mistakes it was possible to make leading to a situation that could have been a lot worse, even lethal."
Responding to Dr Wood's comments about the melee, the expert said, "When a university president gets up there and pontificates that it's outsiders, he's just setting up a legal defense."
The article goes on talk about how fans were feeling crushed by all the pushing and Lil Yachty kept encouraging people to create a moshpit. Some people were panicking and were screaming for help but security seemed confused. At one point, the crowd barrier broke and some people were getting trampled. All in all, it seems as if this whole fiasco escalated quickly and it was fortunate that no one was more seriously injured beyond minor cuts and bruises.
There are people that were planning on attending the Montana game that will no longer be attending for safety and other reasons. Then again, there will be people who wouldn't have attended and now want to watch another "car crash." I think we know what kind of fans are preferred.
Although the "name" is getting out and there has been a little attendance spike, Wood is doing damage to Sac State in a few ways. I think Sac alums will look back on the Wood era and cringe.
