Very interesting article that features the Big West, including Davis. I’m curious to see how things change as we move into the Mountain West. Let me know your thoughts.
the UCSB number is an eye-opener. Our is split football/basketball with football getting a bigger share. From what I hear, UCSD is poised to increase their spending ALOT
Santa Barbara was early shifting donors into NIL. They had to do it to keep the top 25 baseball program from defecting to the SEC. UCSD has the potential to become a juggernaut. Their central campus runs like a business and they have a fundraising machine in place.
Does anyone know how much money our sports programs will have after moving to the MW? I’m not sure how we’re going to compete with other MW teams at this rate.
What I'm getting is that the better Big West teams have been able to put more money into basketball because unlike us Hawai`i and Ca Poly, they don't have football?
ABE was 2-3% for both the general student body and athletics. Then the rate doubled for ICA (around 2012) when Warzecka stepped down, we had an interim AD, and ICA bypassed the Faculty Athletic Representative (FAR) and went directly to admissions. I believe this was documented by the Academic Senate. I've been told MBB was part of that situation.
The ABE often covers solid student-athletes who are simply short one class, or some other modest hurdle they don't currently meet. We're not recruiting SA in can't fog a mirror and have a 2.3 GPA.
